24.01.2022 Hey Ive been pretty quiet on the socials for my Psychology practice lately. Man I just had to trim a few things from my to-do list! This year has been cray for everyone and us in the Psychology field have been slammed with clients. So many of you lovelies are struggling right now and we have been trying our best to keep up with the demand. But I was starting to burn out so I had to be proactive and drop some activities and expectations so I could be there for me, for my f...amily, and for my precious clients. And Im feeling much better for it. I encourage you to take things off your plate if youre feeling the strain. This might mean saying no, getting support (my therapist, clinical supervisor, naturopath, GP and massage therapist have really been there for me), hiring someone to help you with your business (Ive hired an admin assistant!), our household jobs (I heart my gardener, she is an angel sent from heaven) or quitting/resigning/taking a break from something. Give yourself permission to prioritise you and the important people in your life will also benefit @invigorate_naturopathy @karenroseolsen21 @vabaservices See more

19.01.2022 Lovely run along the river earlier today. So nice to have a change of scenery

19.01.2022 Oooofff, all the feels for this quote. Are you really good at listing all your faults, the things that are wrong with you that need to be fixed? Yeah, me too. What if we reframed these faults as coping strategies. Ways we creatively adjusted to our childhood environments? So the fact you avoid confrontation, or find that youre usually the quietest person in the group, or have a hard time saying no, these things are all byproducts of being raised in your family. They helped... you to SURVIVE and keep you SAFE. Our parents did the very best they could given what they were handed down, and so do we. We cope and adapt in all sorts of amazing ways. So when you notice yourself picking up on something thats wrong with you ask, how did this behaviour help me cope with what was going on in my home when I was little? You might be surprised by the answer, and it might help you to understand yourself in a more compassionate and loving way See more

08.01.2022 Feeling the stress from the current state of the world? I caught up with Laurie Maximilian from The Body Transformation studio yesterday to discuss some simple tips to get through COVID-19 with more ease.

06.01.2022 Ive noticed something... a change in me... and a change in my daughter. Im slowly adjusting to the change in pace and working through how life will start to look for us in the coming days, weeks, months. There are some moments when Im feeling calmer than I have in a long time, and she is also calmer. Less wanting to consume and get lost in self soothing with technology. More wanting to deep dive into activities and subjects. I would love to hear if youve noticed any positive changes in yourself and those around you

05.01.2022 The constant drive to improve, get better, do more, be more, more, more, more, can actually create more stress and poor mental health. How about adding a little self-understanding into the mix? Slow down, stop, breathe, and learn to gift yourself some understanding. If you don’t know how to do this it might be worth considering engaging a therapist who can teach you

05.01.2022 Was nearly going to give todays run a miss. Glad I didnt, the lake was so pretty and I earned a 10k PB!

05.01.2022 Excellent news from the Federal Minister for Health, allowing us in Allied Health to continue to support you during these uncertain times. I will provide more details for you as this becomes available.

05.01.2022 My positivity is happening in bursts lately, and I wanted to share something with you. This is for all of you who have been working on your mental health for weeks, months, years and for some of you your whole lives, before the whole world went into meltdown. You have literally been in training for this time of crisis... you already know what to do when the shit hits the fan because you have been living this, surviving this, struggling with this and sometimes owning this. Dig deep, remember what works for you when youre feeling like crap and do it. Oh and also you can be quite useful to those around you who need a compassionate ear or some advice, so share your wisdom my lovely because the world needs you right now

04.01.2022 Lunchtime learning. Does anyone else like sitting on the floor while they learn lol

04.01.2022 Today’s value I’m connecting with is forgiveness. There’s something about this value that hits a nerve for me, an indicator that there’s some work to be done around this. I think it’s natural to hold onto some experiences we’ve had that lead to blame and resentment of others and ourselves. But we can practice releasing our grip, holding blame and resentment a little lighter and allowing ourselves some breathing space. Sometimes there is an action that needs to be taken; a conversation to be had, an apology to be made. Sometimes there isn’t an action and in this instance we can let go just a little, and breathe

03.01.2022 Perth, stahp it! You are just too beautiful in Winter Happy Friday peeps. I just made a 5k PB, today is gonna be great

02.01.2022 The term urge surfing was developed by Psychologist G.A Marlatt in his work with substance addiction. Urge surfing is a method that can be used to help mitigate the effects of the urges and cravings we experience. Urge surfing claims that fighting an urge is useless. Rather, through identifying them, one can be mindful and ride them out, much like how a surfer rides a wave. Step 1: Identify Internal & External Triggers Try to anticipate environments or emotion states that... may trigger an urge. Prepare coping strategies and identify and name the urge to create some "defusion" from the automatic urge behaviours e.g. "I'm noticing I'm feeling lonely and that I'm having the urge to drink alcohol." Step 2: Stay Aware Instead of trying to control the urge, adopt an observant, curious, and non-judgemental attitude. This will help you to start to understand yourself and your behaviour and how to best ride these waves in the future. Step 3: Take Mental Notes About How You Are Feeling What emotions are you experiencing? Note physical sensations in your body. This will help you to practice sitting with yourself and any discomfort rather than acting on it to trying and get away from it. Remind yourself here that your feelings and physical sensations can't hurt you. Step 4: Employ Gentle Distraction or Soothing Techniques To help you through the urge it can be useful to engage in activities such as deep breathing, meditation, gentle stretching or yoga, mental games such as sudoku or crosswords, walking, playing music etc. This will help to pass the time and increase your positive coping skills toolbox. Step 5: Keep In Mind That This Will Pass Understand that urges and cravings will pass with time. Positive self-statements and affirmations can used as mantras. For example: I can ride this out, or I will get through this. Urge surfing may feel hard at first, but like any skill it does get easier with practice. I promise!

01.01.2022 A strategy I use to stay anchored during my day is connecting to a core value. I drew Freedom from my deck of values this morning... relevant given the ongoing racism occurring in the world. Its a very sad and scary time for people of colour It can easily feel like an overwhelming and hopeless problem to address, so big right? Can you make a start with yourself? Can you make a commitment to yourself to work towards living a life that you want? Not what anyone else wants, you! And then can you make a commitment to help others to do likewise? This can be done in so many ways and and look 1000 different ways in action. Look for freedom today, how can you create the feeling of freedom for yourself and how might you help others to do the same?
