23.01.2022 PERFUME - I LOVE IT! ~ ~ I remember in the late early 80’s l, as a teenager saving up and buying perfume that was $160. That was a lot of money back then. ~... ~ Some of those same perfumes you can now buy at chemists for $45. ~ ~ But perfume is not what it was. Cheap synthetics entered the picture and so all the perfume houses switched over because man made chemicals in a lab is WAY cheaper than essential oils. ~ ~ Through the years I noticed that certain perfumes would give me headaches & the cleaner I got, the more I noticed it. ~ ~ WHATEVER we put on our skin, enters the blood stream & our LIVER has to get rid of the toxins. We don’t need to put MORE load on our precious liver. ~ ~ Plus, the gut lining is very porous & so the chemicals make their way to the gut & it destroys the good gut flora. ~ ~ I understand it’s a sad day when you make the decision not to wear it, but honestly, 12 years on, I don’t miss it at all. ~ ~ These chemicals in perfume are MAJOR hormone disrupters - they interfere with our: Insulin production Thyroid production Our sex hormones - oestrogen, progesterone & testosterone ~ ~ In Australia, we have a major infertility problem. 15 in every 100 couples are infertile in their most fertile years & it’s due to the chemicals we EAT, put on our SKIN & BREATHE. ~ ~ I posted on my story today - a detox tea that I give my girls most nights because I’m always thinking LIVER HEALTH for them. 22.01.2022 We were partners in crime - with one mission - help peeps to thrive through education, LOADS of veg & delicious food! ~ ~ Caught up with one of my nearest and dearest today. Enjoyed an early morning break @stable_coffee_kitchen ~... ~ We’ve been friends for over 20 years and walked through some of the hardest & painful times together. We’ve laughed relentlessly (literally to the point of wetting myself) & we’ve cried together. ~ ~ We talk deep & everything in between. ~ ~ I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing if it wasn’t for Lou. We came together around a project 8 years ago that we believed would change the way people ate (& I’m still on that mission) ~ ~ We sat around my kitchen table during school hours and studied and learnt ABOUT the body & ABOUT the role of food. ~ ~ I was already organic & already eating LOADS of veg & whole foods - always have. I was no longer addicted to refined sugar at this point, but we were passionate about change because we could see so many young school mums struggling in their health & their kids weren’t thriving - weight issues, funny tummy, irritable. ~ ~ We spent 1,000’s of hours that year researching & understanding how the body worked. ~ ~ We had soooo many light bulb moments as we released that the body wasn’t set up for DISEASE but for life & we could actually let disease pass us by if we: ~ ~ 1. 14.01.2022 How to recognise ‘refined sugar’, commonly known as ‘white death’. 1. ‘Sugar’ will appear as an ingredient on the back of a packet or drink. 2. Sometimes the ingredients list will use another name there’s over 50 names for sugar. 3. Ref sugars we buy in packets at the supermarket: cane, castor & icing sugar, brown & raw sugar, commercial honey, maple flavouring and golden syrup. ~... ~ I understand how intense cravings consume you - the first bite is NEVER enough! Refined sugar HUGELY impacted my life for over 25 years because there was a war going on in my gut between the good guts & the enemy flora. It grows uncontrollably when we eat ref sugar regularly. ~ ~ I’ve had zero cravings for over 12 years. ~ ~ ~ The struggle to resist foods that are high in sugar and fat have LITTLE TO DO WITH with ‘self-control’ or ‘will power’. ~ ~ The gut loves to have a chat! The brain & gut TALK to each & refined sugar causes the brain to yell, MORE, MORE, MORE! ~ ~ 70% of your immune system cells live in your gut & your immune cells and your gut cells ALSO TALK & yes, FOOD also affects that talk. They are an army of specific cells that gather battle plans whenever an invader tries to attack. If the gut flora isn’t thriving, then your armies strategies and weapons are weak. I coach in depth on this in my Path to Thriving video course - Link in BIO ~ ~ Let’s talk about loving your liver because it’s the largest & most important organ inside our body & it works the hardest. We obviously can’t live without any of them, but the liver is king. Refined sugar is like dumping the worst smelling garbage onto this organ! ~ ~ Once we learn to cook with variety, flavour & flare, & truly nourish our bod, refined sugar loses its hold. ~ ~ However, when we swap over to the good sugars, it’s easy to OVER INDULGE. ~ ~ I’ve been known to eat too much of my caramel slice (Path to Thriving). The next day, I can tell that my liver is sluggish because I feel sluggish. ~ ~ ~ The number one way to have a healthy relationship with good sugars is by eating a daily diet LOADED with vegetables, greens & whole foods & being intentional with the good fats you eat. 10.01.2022 Food & health isn’t as HARD as you think! ~ ~ The battle ground is in the mind. ~... ~ We think: It’s too hard, too confusing I’ve tried & failed I’ve tried & haven’t lost weight Too expensive I’ll never get the kids on board so what’s the point Too time consuming ~ ~ The mind is the battle groundbut when you break it all down it all makes perfect sense & the only hard part is continuing (& yes, this can be challenging) ~ ~ It’s not about changing EVERYTHING all at once. Start with: 1. Big glass of water before anything else goes down the hatch 2. Write a shopping list for the L Plater smoothie ~ ~ 2 bok choy leaves, stems included Lebanese cucumber 1 celery stalk, leaves removed 1 cm knob ginger & turmeric 1/8 tsp black pepper orange 1 Tbs chia Banana Filtered water ~ ~ 3. Blend the smoothie & drink - if this is too much, then 1/2 the quantities. 4. Have 1/2 cup of frozen blueberries with a dollop of coconut yoghurt @coyo_organic sometime through out the day. ~ ~ Take a month to carve & build THIS road in your brain so these steps become easy. ~ ~ This is how we do it. When I was quitting refined sugar 13 years ago - I had plenty of times that I gave way to cravings but I didn’t relent on my green smoothie. ~ ~ My live ZOOM session (Link in BIO) is filling up. 07.01.2022 Changing our mindsets around food! ~ ~ Because this changes our BEHAVIOUR & ~... ~ The FIRST step to thriving health. ~ ~ When we tell ourself that we hate cooking or we can’t cookdoes this give us permission NOT to feed our body living food & keep eating garbage. ~ ~ I don’t use the word GARBAGE to offend or make you feel condemned in ANY WAY, but processed food, refined sugar, toxic veg oils and 90% of supermarket foods is garbage for the body. ~ ~ It’s like going to the smelly tip & feeding ourselves & our families from the scraps that are going off. ~ ~ I want to tell you that up until now, it hasn’t been our fault. We’re ALL busy and time poor - 2 parents working - LIFE - it’s stressful & so we have allowed the food manufacturers to feed us - breakfast cardboard & milk packets, jars, freezer & deli - with very little VEG & whole foods. ~ ~ A lot of peeps didn’t grow up with a mumma or father that cooked from scratch or if they did, it wasn’t delicious. ~ ~ But right now - you’re following me & it’s TIME to change the mindset around food & to LEARN how to: Eat Shop Cook ~ ~ I’ve coached 1,000’s of peeps & you won’t get this overnight. A small % of you will make the shift immediately & it’s usually the people that know how to cook & create flavour but have lost their way & even these Gorgeous ones tell me they’ve learnt SO much. ~ ~ But for most people, it’s a journey - ON the PATH & excited - detour - back on the path - excited - detour. ~ ~ Each time you GET BACK ON the path, it’s easier. 07.01.2022 Following a recipe ~ ~ When I was doing live classes, sometimes a gorgeous peep would tell me that their dish didn’t taste like mine. I would ask a few questions & soon realise that they had left out a spice or substituted a missing ingredient with something they thought would work. ~... ~ Unless you’re a confident cook, don’t leave out an ingredient or substitute. It’s about having the ‘right’ balance of flavours & creating ‘depth’ of flavour by adding layers of flavour - you’ll NEVER get this with supermarket sauces & packets. ~ ~ I’m not talking long complicated recipes but flavour bombs for your taste buds & wow factor. Even a stew can have the visual ‘wow’ affect! ~ ~ We eat first with our eyes - so it’s gotta be pretty or elegant, rustic or bossy! ~ ~ It’s not about fancy plating up - it’s about letting the VEG & WHOLE FOODS do the talking. ~ ~ I’ll never get tired of hearing my girls oh wow mum! ~ ~ My thoughts on delicious cooking: ~ ~ 1. Declutter your kitchen space. 2. Don’t cook the life out of your veg - I see so many overcooked dishes - both steamed & roasted that look weary & greasy. 3. Not ALL recipes are created equal - there’s lots of VERY average recipes online & in print. 4. A meal will NEVER look gorgeous if there’s a big slab of meat with limp, greasy veg or a meat & veg stew/curry that looks all brown. I LOVE meat, but the way to eat it for a healthy body is to have it as a condiment. 3/4 of the plate should be alive with colour that has been cooked deliciously. 5. Cook a recipe 3 & 4 times so that it’s in your bank. I’ve cooked loads of delicious recipes 1 time, only to forget about them the next week. 6. The first time you cook a meal it takes twice as long. 07.01.2022 BRAIN BREAK! ~ ~ My girls say this when they take a break from year 12 study! ~... ~ It usually means snap chat, insta or online shopping! ~ ~ I suddenly realised today - I need a brain break. ~ ~ I had over 400 peeps through my 5 week face to face course in 10 months last year - PATH TO THRIVING so I knew I had to get it filmed & online. (Link in BIO). ~ ~ After a super busy 2019, I started filmin & writing content in January & Feb, plus I was finishing my last round of my live courses. I loved every minute of it. ~ ~ Covid lockdown hit a week after my last ‘live’ class & I launched Path to Thriving online, (Link in BIO). I hit the ground running. ~ ~ I was back in the kitchen again & started recipe creating, planning & writing content for my 2nd offering - Plan & Prosper - & over 500 hours later - I launched last week - Link in BIO. ~ ~ I’ve only ever had one thought in mind - YOU - & making this thriving journey delicious, streamline, simple, doable & fun! ~ ~ When you have an online business you’re on the social media treadmill daily & up until now, I’m the team! Jack of all trades (just so you know - I’m not tech savvy, but I’ve taught myself. I’m a ‘headlines’ girl so tech stuff can do my head in - lol) ~ ~ I suddenly stopped last week & realised I’m tired - but I kept soldiering on (as I do). ~ ~ Well, I had a few tears today -just being real - my brain needs to recharge. ~ ~ The good news is I’m hiring & I think I’ve found the perfect fit. ~ ~ I want to get my BLOG up so that I can write longer & more detailed content to help you, plus I want to get back into the kitchen & do more recipe creating & of course I love filming - but my brain is LOCKED. LOL ~ ~ Health is about knowing when to STOP & recharge because I work hard & fast. 05.01.2022 Good Guts! ~ ~ Quick post because I can’t help myself. I’m still on brain break - lol ~... ~ Some days (just for a moment) I get overwhelmed by the magnitude of the FOOD PROBLEM & the disease - mild, chronic & terminal - that FOOD is causing. ~ ~ FOOD is a GIFT OF LIFE given to us to enjoy, savour, have fun with, celebrate but first of all to nourish us. ~ ~ The GOOD GUTS need to be fed good food - not packaged, processed, sugar drinks or refined sugar, chips n dips, daily alcohol & cheese platters, bread & 90% of supermarket foods. ~ ~ Get the GOOD GUTS thriving! This is some of their job description: Designed to help us digest our food Absorb the nutrients in our food so our body can heal, build & restore EVERY DAY. Keep nasty invaders who want to wreak havoc from entering INTO the rest of our body. 01.01.2022 It’s a super food that I started adding to my smoothie 13 years ago. ~ ~ Back then, I couldn’t tell you what it was good for - I just remember thinking, It’s a super food & it’s not expensive. ~... ~ It was only when I started all my research with Lou that I realised HOW AMAZING it is. ~ ~ From the time I started getting my periods as a teen, the pain was hideous. ~ ~ My cycle was regular but pain & mood swings were really bad. Thankfully in the early 90’s I heard about the power of Evening Primrose (EP)oil to help with emotions during the monthly cycle. It was a life changer, but pain continued. ~ ~ Refined sugar is the enemy (worst kind) of hormones. If I’d had a bad month of food binging in my teens & 20’s, then the pain was revolting. ~ ~ As I got older and my binging was more managed, the pain did lessen but it was still yuk. ~ ~ I say all this to say, that when I quit refined sugar & started feeding my body the goods & being intentional EVERY DAY with FAT & HUGE amounts of veg - the pain left & it was literally a breeze. ~ ~ To see my girls just sail through every month & not experience the horrible pain that I did - blesses my heart.
