21.01.2022 At the beginning of this year I put some values down on paper - calm, natural, simple, slow and creative. As we get closer to the end of the year I wonder how you are going with managing your expectations, and adjusting them if things turned out differently to what you had imagined? And hasn’t this year been different, to say the least, for most of us? More time at home meant many people chose to pick up tools and plant seeds for the first time, or get back into gardens they... had been too busy to tend to in the past. Lily is pictured here in the food forest in our backyard. There are many fragrant and edible plants that bring me back to my senses and settle the mind. As people come to counselling with me by entering through this garden, I hope that they can be transported, even if it is only for a moment, to a place of peace. @rebeccarylandscounselling

19.01.2022 What’s going on within your baby? Mirror neurons are firing. That loving gaze, also known as the beam gleam, means that your baby is studying you and falling in... love. Rebecca Rylands Counselling instagram.com/rebeccarylandscounselling

15.01.2022 Music has many benefits for babies and did you know it can also help parents alleviate anxiety? The vagus nerve helps to regulate emotion when you sing, hum, or even chew gum. #parentsupport #selfhelp #counselling #music #therapy

12.01.2022 During holidays, routines and children can get a bit out of whack. Give yourself credit for who you are and what you bring to your family. There is a lot to juggle as a parent and we can lose sight of the mini-wins, successes and growth that occur in our children‘s worlds, and in our lives, every day. On some days it can feel like a busy, but doable juggle. Other days can feel like a struggle. If these days start to outweigh the good ones, and you’re not going so great, seek appropriate support that nourishes you.

12.01.2022 Hi, I’m Rebecca. I am a counsellor and teacher with a special interest in women’s, children’s and teens’ emotional health and mental wellbeing. For anyone who hasn’t ever been to a counsellor before, it often involves talk-based therapy with a trained professional. One of my favourite definitions for Therapy comes from the Greek derivative, meaning to attend, do service, take care of. I want to assist you to live your most authentic and best life. And as a counsellor - I al...so need to walk the walk, so here is to making today awesome! #registeredcounsellors #therapy #mentalhealth #counselling

11.01.2022 It helped having women close to me who showed me the value of this skill and two even gave me a carrier and a sling to get me started. Happy International Women’s Day. It’s amazing what we can do!

11.01.2022 This is something I have been wanting to start for a while - a drum circle for babies and their parents/caregivers! I will be running an introductory session for people in my local area next Tuesday. Message me for further details. The benefits for recreational drumming are: fun, self-expression, stress-reduction, unity, community building, exercise for mind, body and spirit, camaraderie and support, multi-generational family connection.

10.01.2022 We are coming up to our last session for the year and the theme will be Identity and Community. I have now started taking bookings for mixed age classes in 2021. Please get in touch you would like to join!

09.01.2022 Looking after your mental health, and your baby's, can be two sides of the same coin. If the words mental health don't work for you, you can think of it as emot...ional health or well-being. Add things into the day that improve your mood, and your baby's mood. Make it fun, feel-good, oxytocin-producing, low pressure and win/win for baby and mother. It could be breastfeeding, co-sleeping, playing, comforting an unsettled baby by hugging, rocking, patting, singing, baby massage or going for a walk in the fresh air to name just a few. We'd love to hear what works for you in the comments below. Image: Instagram.com/rebeccarylandscounselling #coregulation #attachment #attachmentparenting See more

02.01.2022 Photo Source: Courier Mail, 25 May ‘21. I have an idea to share the drumming for relaxation I have been doing in an IGTV Live this Wednesday night. 01.01.2022 I did the Circle of Security Parenting Facilitator training in 2018, and found the program to contain invaluable research-driven concepts for parents and anyone who works with children and families. I only wish I known some of it earlier! I was reassured, however, by the fact that it is never too late to learn.
