25.01.2022 A chronic state of stress can have widespread negative effects, such as: * Difficulty sleeping * Low energy... * Mood changes - irritability, sadness, worrying * Poor digestion - reduced digestive secretions can lead to bloating, abdominal pain and reflux. * Irregular blood sugar control - cortisol signals the release of sugars into the bloodstream in anticipation that muscles will need fuel to help you run away. These sugar spikes can lead to weight gain if the sugars are not utilised as muscle fuel and instead converted to fat. * Hormonal imbalances - menstrual irregularity, lack of libido, fertility issues can all arise when your body switches to making stress hormones in preference to sex hormones. Stress is an inevitable part of modern lifestyles, but it needn't get the better of you. With guidance from an experienced Naturopath you can strengthen your mind and body to become more resilient to the effects of everyday stress. Regain control over the stress in your life today.

24.01.2022 Calcium is a vital mineral. Most people know that dairy is a good source of calcium. But what happens when you are dairy intolerant. I often get asked by concerned patients how can they get adequate calcium from non-dairy sources. The good news is, there are many foods that can boost your daily intake. Top non-dairy sources of calcium:... Canned sardines. 1 small tin contains approx 240mg Seaweeds. Some varieties contain up to 150mg per serve Tofu is a great source with 126mg per serve Leafy greens. Broccoli contains 112mg per serve Legumes. Roughly 1 cup cooked legumes contain 132mg Almonds help boost calcium with around 75mg per serve How can you boost up your calcium intake?

24.01.2022 As a healthcare practitioner I have witnessed the many changes in people's lives throughout Melbourne restrictions and the far from normal conditions of 2020. It may feel like everything has been turned upside down. We are not living in normal times or circumstances, and some of your health complaints may be due to or exacerbated from this. Some of the main things I have noticed increasing: * Anxiety, stress, depression * Irritability, anger, frustration, fear * Insomnia *... Menstrual cycle and hormonal changes * Increased alcohol consumption * Weight gain * Fatigue and lack of motivation * High blood pressure when no previous history * Loneliness due to isolation - this is getting much worse * Headaches and migraines * Eye problems - from too much time on computers and phones * Constipation, diarrhoea and nausea * Pain * Resurfacing of previous trauma experiences * Additional and unimaginable heartache during the grieving process with the passing of a loved one * Macne and Maskma - I just made those words up for acne and eczema on the face due to wearing masks Can you add anything else to this list? So much has stopped during 2020, but health complaints are still there or worsening. If you have any health concerns please consult your qualified health care professional. Not sure where to start - reach out and I will do my best to help or put you in the right direction. Take care x Rebecca See more

21.01.2022 Hayfever started early this year. This is a good reminder of some foods that may assist you. But as my friends at Biomedica mentioned, sometimes it's just not enough. There are some great natural medicines that do not leave you feeling drowsy.

19.01.2022 MICROBIOME & GUT HEALTH You’ve probably heard about the good bacteria living within your digestive system, and may have even thought about taking a probiotic to support them. Your microbiome is this internal community encompassing a massive 38 trillion microbes (not just bacteria). When healthy and balanced, it synthesises important vitamins you need; helps modulate and boost your immune system; assists with waste elimination (therefore supporting healthy bowel function); a...nd even influencing your mood. However, your diet and lifestyle choices can negatively impact the health of your microbiome; resulting in a reduction in both the numbers and/or diversity of the organisms within your gut. Disruption to your internal microbial community can then create an environment where pathogenic (disease causing) organisms have the opportunity to grow and prosper. This state of imbalance is termed ‘dysbiosis’, and can lead to a plethora of negative health effects, including digestive complaints, nutrient deficiencies, or maybe a compromised immune system (which can lead to allergies and/or frequent illness) these are all common outcomes when the microbiome becomes imbalanced. 5 most common diet and lifestyle factors that may negatively impact the health of your microbiome: 1. Eating a low fibre diet 2. Alcohol intake 3. Unmanaged stress 4. A sedentary lifestyle 5. Antibiotic use

16.01.2022 Due to the Melbourne lockdown, unfortunately I am unable to provide face to face appointments at the clinic. During this time appointments are still available, I am still working and providing online or phone appointments instead. As in previous lockdowns my focus is on, the health and safety of my patients and keeping you healthy. Being able to continue supporting your wellbeing and to provide the healthcare you need is my top priority. Take care.

15.01.2022 For something so small, your thyroid gland plays a large role in your overall vitality and optimal health! However, due to numerous factors, your thyroid can easily be thrown out of balance, leading to many aspects of your health also being affected. Common thyroid signs and symptoms:... Hypertension Swelling at the base of the neck Increased perspiration Shakiness and tremor Nervousness Confusion Increased appetite accompanied by weight loss or weight gain Difficulty sleeping Sensitivity of eyes to light Altered menstrual cycle FERTILITY PROBLEMS Goitre Lethargy Intolerance to cold Puffy face Constipation Headaches Increased miscarriage risk Your health complaints might be associated with your thyroid gland. For my patients, I investigate more than just the standard TSH via a blood test. You may have had this test and been told "everything looks normal", further investigations can unlock the missing piece to your health concerns. Yes, there is more than just one test to gather a thorough assessment of your thyroid gland. This has been the case for many patients over the years.

10.01.2022 Tomorrow marks the first day of Spring. For many people this is the worst time of year with hayfever symptoms. Allergies occur when your immune system overreacts, triggering inflammation and producing allergic symptoms which range from hay fever, digestive discomfort, eczema and asthma.

09.01.2022 Another reason for women to Brussels sprouts! Research has shown eating cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage and brussels sprouts is particularly beneficial for the hearts of elderly women. The Australian study in women aged 70 and older found those who ate more vegetables had thinner artery walls. The more you eat, the better, with each increase of 10 g per day in cruciferous vegetables associated with an average 0.8 % lower carotid artery wall thickness. They really are good for you.

08.01.2022 Allergies occur when your immune system overreacts, triggering inflammation and producing allergic symptoms which range from hay fever, digestive discomfort, eczema and asthma, to life-threatening anaphylaxis. When it comes to allergies, you might reach for the quick-fix medications to provide symptomatic relief (such as antihistamines). However, targeting the underlining drivers of allergy (particularly your gut health and function) can provide long-term benefits to increase... your tolerance to allergic triggers. Over the years I have found that patients notice the over the counter medicines such as Telfast or Zyrtec may not work as effectively or may make the feel drowsy. Believe me, I know there is nothing worse than when hayfever strikes, the watery nose, sneezing, itchy eyes. Supporting good digestive system function can address some of the underlying factors that cause your immune system to be over-reactive. So if your nose does more running during the day than what you do, discover how natural medicine can help you. Call 0404 096 801 today.
