25.01.2022 THIS is why I do what I do and also why my clinic is called ‘Practical Naturopathy’ Even the best, most validated, scientifically-sound solutions are absolutely useless if the person in front of you doesn’t feel like it’s fits with them. And while I know some people feel that ‘it’s just what you have to do’ (and yes, sometimes there is a place for this) I prefer to go with 100% commitment and empowerment to a solution that might only get you 60% of the way...and then we b...uild from there The most therapeutic relationships are built on openness, honesty and respect and I believe this is where a large part of the magic happens . When I’m working with patients, I’m heavy on the ‘is this going to work for you?’ questioning. And if it isn’t, it’s no big deal; we simply need to find another solution. Can’t take powders? Fine - let’s look for a tablet. Can’t swallow tablets and don’t like the taste of the powders? Ok - let’s see what else is available! Don’t like vegetables (like one patient I had last week ) - let’s get creative together! Most of us hate change at the best of times, but when the actions associated with this are wrapped up in dread, it makes it a hundred times harder! If you’re looking to make a change, make that change as easy for yourself as you possibly can. Even the best intentions are useless without action so trust me when I say, sometimes it’s better to start out with average intentions and just get those done first . . . . . #healthcare #naturopathy #wellness #wellbeing #makingchange #spring #naturopath #practicalnaturopathy #makeitlast #lastingchange #newhabits #nutritionist #dietsdontwork #bewell

24.01.2022 After a super indulgent few weeks (which were absolutely incredible!) we’re back into the swing of things! It feels like it’s been forever since I’ve actually cooked dinner and given how cold it’s been, I decided on potato and leek soup, with a side of beautiful @field_to_fork lamb cutlets. It certainly hit the spot! . . . #soupseason #potatoandleeksoup #soup #veggies #organic #lambcutlets #nourish #naturopath #nutrition #nutritionist #practicalnaturopathy

22.01.2022 Closing the door on the Practical Naturopathy clinic for the last time this year with an immensely grateful heart It certainly hasn’t been your average year, but then again, who wants to be average?! As I reflect on all the health stories I got to be apart of, all the poo-tastic and bowel-balancing transformations, all the pregnancies and babies I supported families to have, all the lessons I’ve learnt and all the love and support both me and my business have received, I... exhale with a deep knowing of YES, I’m exactly where I need to be That’s being said, it’s now time for rest, family time and doing all things non-work, which means deleting my work emails from my phone until I go back mid-Jan. If you need me, I’ll still be periodically checking emails, but only VERY sporadically so please just bear with me if you’re waiting for a response during that time. Thank you to all my wonderful patients and supporters for helping us through this year and allowing me to continue to do what I love #endofyear #practicalnaturopathy #naturopath #nutritionist #healthcare #wellness #grateful #thankful #smallbusiness #supportsmallbusiness

21.01.2022 Spent the weekend hanging out with the Maltese Mummas (Don’t you put me on Facebook!) and my little side-kicks (Aunty Bec, take a photo with us! ) learning how to make ravioli We made 16 dozen...Which is 192 ravioli! . 21.01.2022 I must admit, I’ve always found sardines intimidating I’m not sure what it is about them that I find so terrifying, but each time I think I’ll use them, I completely chicken out (confession: I have 3 different brands of tinned sardines in our pantry and I just haven’t been able to bring myself to use them) But when I found these fresh fillets while doing our shopping this week, I decided to bite the bullet and just do it! Sardines are packed with omega 3, are incredibly s...ustainable and because they are tiny little fish, they don’t really have much time to soak up all the toxins like the bigger fish, so their heavy metal profile is slim to none . I had (absolutely) no idea what to do with these fillets so I simply coated them in some seasoned spelt flour with some paprika and shallow fried them. I gave them a good squeeze of lemon juice once they were done and served on top of a quick salsa of onions, asparagus, zucchini, red capsicum and broad beans. And they were actually quite ok! It’s certainly not my favourite fish flavor, but for the sake of the planet, with a super healthy side effect, I’m more than happy to continue experimenting with these little guys! 20.01.2022 Because let’s be honest, halloumi makes everything better This roast veg and cous cous salad got the ‘spectacular’ rating last night and was the perfect accompaniment to our BBQ’d lamb chops If you’re looking for a healthy, hearty salad that can easily be made a head of time, give this one a go! Arrange a few good handfuls of baby spinach on the base of a platter. Cook your desired amount of cous cous (I used Israeli, but quinoa and buckwheat would also work well ...if you want to make this gluten free!) and then mix in about a teaspoon of olive oil and a good handful of chopped mint. This makes the cous cous easy to scatter over your spinach. Roast some pumpkin, zucchini, beetroot and red onion. I used a splash of balsamic vinegar over the onion and beetroot to help bring out their sweetness. Once cooked and cooked, add to the salad. Sprinkle over a handful of pomegranate seeds and finish with crispy halloumi. The dressing was a simple mix of olive oil, lemon juice and a bit of mustard . . . . . #simplesalad #sexysalad #halloumi #greens #organic #fresh #summertime #lambchops #couscous #roastveg #wholesome #filling #goodforyou #veggies #herbs #dinner #nutrition #nutritionist #practicalnaturopathy #healthysalad See more

17.01.2022 My Picked Veggie Salad Pickles are an absolute favourite in our household This pickled salad has undergone a variety of different tweaks over the last couple of months, but this ‘tweak’ by far was our favourite! If you want to give it a go, this is all you will have to do: 1. Use a mandolin to finely shave 1 carrot, 1/2 bulb of fennel, 1/2 Spanish onion, 1 cucumber and 4 large radishes. If you don’t have a mandolin (get one!) or just use a knife to slice as finely a...s you can. 2. In a separate bowl, mix the juice of 1 lemon, 2 tablespoons of red wine vinegar, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 teaspoon of mustard powder and 1/2 teaspoon of celery seeds. Mix well (I use a small whisk, which I find mixes everything nice and evenly). 3. Add in 1/2 bunch of finely sliced dill to the pickling liquid then pour over vegetables. 4. Allow to marinate in an air tight container for 2 - 3 hours before serving. As a bonus, this stores amazingly well in the fridge too! . . . . . . #pickles #homemadepickles #guthealth #digestion #veggies #nourish #naturopath #nutritionist #wellness #wellbeing #happygut #practicalnaturopathy #eattherainbow #homemade #soulfood #fresh #greens #wholesome

16.01.2022 Iceberg lettuce always makes me nostalgic I very rarely buy it (we’re more a baby-spinach type household ) but every now and then I pick up one. As I put together tonight’s salad I was reminded of my childhood where my grandparents farm used to be absolutely brimming with iceberg lettuces. As a little girl, my siblings and I used to spend hours down in the lettuce patch, looking for lady beetles and worms...then when we’d get hungry, we’d twist a whole iceberg out of t...he ground, peel off the outer leaves, hold it by the roots and eat it like it was an apple That memory always makes me smile because we would do it time and time again and it was never weird to us... So tonight, as you chop up your veggies and prepare your dinner, give a little extra gratitude to the farmers out there producing our food. It can be way to easy to forget where it actually comes from . . . . . #thankthefarmers #farmers #supportthefarmers #butlocal #shopsmall #butdirect #farmersmarkets #greens #freshfood #nostalgic #childhood #nourish #naturopath #nutritionist #practicalnaturopathy #wellness #knowwhereyourfoodcomesfrom #connection

16.01.2022 Super light and refreshing, my watermelon salad is the perfect side for your favourite protein! Simply tear up a few handfuls of rocket leaves, crumble in some feta, add a good handful of finely chopped mint then dress with extra virgin olive oil, salt and pepper. Next add in some cubes of watermelon and wedges of radish then toss to combine. Finish with a squeeze of lemon, another drizzle of olive oil and freshly ground black pepper. 15.01.2022 If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know that I have a ‘No Boring Salads’ rule in our house . And after my darling fiancé got a little too jolly with the boys on Saturday night, I went into full-speed food-as-medicine mode to help pick his body back up after a little bit of over-indulging . Our salad was a mix of rocket and baby spinach (bitter greens are good for supporting digestion) with LOTS of fresh parsley and dill (which are both anti-oxidant powerhou...ses and dill is particularly nice for calming for the queeze), red and yellow capsicum for their phytochemicals (which mop up the cellular-damage caused from a big night) and cucumber for it’s hydrating and electrolyte properties. I added some flaked almonds and pepitas for extra zinc, magnesium and folate (all of which are depleted after a few drinks!) and the crumbled feta was purely because it tastes yummy Our dressing was extra virgin olive oil (full of essential fatty acids to reduce inflammation) and lemon juice (which is a nice alkaliser). I also threw in some extra cloves of garlic with our roast potatoes to give his liver a bit of extra help getting back on track. Fun Fact: Garlic contains 33 different sulphur compounds, many of which are involved with liver detoxification and support so not only were these delicious, they were also super nourishing too! And while I would have loved to have made our protein some fish for extra omega 3’s, I also know how much he loves his favourite free-range sausages from @field_to_fork so that’s what we had instead The festive season and holidays can often be filled with over-indulging and many foods/drinks that you wouldn’t normally consume and for me, that’s ok - because it’s a celebratory time of year and it’s once a year. That being said, there are still lots of things we can do to support our bodies through it to and good quality food and nourishment is alway the place to start! . . . #goodfood #nourish #wholefood #foodasmedicine #foodisnedicine #nourishtoflourish #naturopathic #nutrition #practicalnaturopathy #wellness #holidays #festiveseason #eatwell #salads #glutenfree #greens #nutsandseeds #antiinflammatorydiet #health

14.01.2022 I’m an absolute lover of antiques! And until recently, pretty crystal glasses and decanters were always things that I was drawn to. After purchasing this amazing-looking decanter a little while ago, I was nervous to let Anthony put anything he was going to drink in it so it housed flat ginger beer (to look pretty) in our china cabinet for months! 12.01.2022 2020... Not the year that many of us were expecting, but probably the year most of us needed To really get an understanding of what’s important to us, to understand what we value, to choose what we accept and allow and to draw the line on what we don’t. A little ritual I have on the 31st of December is to reflect on where I found the ‘gold’ throughout the year. Just like a gold miner, the year can so often be filled with trudging and ordinary, but every now and then, you come across (or create!) those really sparkly moments that make you sit up and take notice. Look for them - they’re there. And if you’re having trouble finding them, scroll through your photos and remember those moments that captured your heart and be grateful for those who were there to share in your findings .

07.01.2022 My first time cooking a rack of lamb and it won’t be the last (now I know what to do with it ) I looked at a few different recipes, but true to form (I’m hopeless at following a recipe!) I just did my own thing . I made this crunchy coating with parsley, mint, garlic, olive oil, parmesan cheese, breadcrumbs and some salt a pepper that I blitzed in the food processor. Once I’d seared the lamb, I brushed on some mustard and then packed on the coating before popping in the... oven. I should have trimmed some of the fat off, but will make sure I do that next time Served with a nice big roast veggie salad of pumpkin, beetroot and eggplant, topped with feta and toasted almonds, pepitas and sesame seeds So often when I’m chatting with my patients about getting creative in the kitchen, they can get so worked up about doing the ‘wrong thing’. And yes, I get it, but I also say ‘go for it!’ Yes there may be times when you think ‘oh gosh where’s the bin’ but that’s all part of the process!
