25.01.2022 Plant Apple tree A very wise farmer (My Grandpa ) once said: "The best timing to plant fruit trees would be 10 years ago or now!" We do not want to wait another 10 years. In Canberra, winter is the best time to plant apple trees. At this time, the apple tree is dormant, and will wake up in Spring to reshoot. ... We prepared the three dwarf apple trees, Cripps Pink, Jonathan, and Red Fuji, potting mix, mulch, chicken manure, & garden tools we needed. Children assisted to plant the apple trees today; we are going to learn how to look after them, and looking foward to harvest organic delicous apples in the future. #winterappletree #diggersclub #dwarfapple #redfuji #Jonathan #crippspink #earlylearning #gardeningwithchildren #sustainability #growyourownfood

19.01.2022 It's time for our "Get to Know the Educator" post! This week we have Komal - Our Nursery Room Leader - who has chosen a quote by Ignacio Estrada. "If a child can’t learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn."

19.01.2022 Recently, the children have been talking about what jobs adults do all day, and have been particularly fascinated with all things travel (pilots, sniffer dog trainers, engineers) Today the children got to go on a very special excursion to Canberra Airport where we explored the sculptures, met a sniffer dog, learnt how we go through an airport... and here they are looking through the glass floor at the suitcase conveyor belt

16.01.2022 This week some of our rooms have been learning yoga poses from Suzanna Thell. One of preschools favourite poses was the Downward Dog Pose. To do this pose... "Start on all fours with your hands under your shoulders and your knees under your hips. Tuck your toes under and lift your hips up, straightening your legs and relaxing your head between your arms..." (Deer-lightful by Suzanna Thell, p.25) Please feel free to stop by the foyer (with the collection of books by the chairs) and read through "Deer-lightful", a wonderful and calming story written by Suzanna.

12.01.2022 Outdoor play Playing outside provides opportunities for young children to experience the world with all of their five senses. Quality outdoor play has a great influence and effect on the growth of children’s brains and creates strong foundations for future development in all. ... Playing freely outdoors helps children with the development of social skills, spatial awareness, cooperation and communication. It also assists children to learn about decision making, develop their ability to share, develop conceptual ability, the ability to imagine an idea without seeing it in practice, learn about their body and their ability as well as become more independent and address their fears. #earlylearning #outdoorplay #spatialawareness #cooperation #communication #sensoryawarness #decisionmaking #conceptualability #independent #phyiscaldevelopment #grossmotorskills #childrenbraindevelopment

04.01.2022 Helping the children learn skills that they can apply to their home environments and keep for the future is an important goal for our educators. Which is why our Junior Preschool room has been learning all about composting! Our group discussed the role that worms, insects, fungi and microbes play in the process of composting. The children then applied what they had learnt by selecting items that can be composted. Our educators also found a great and engaging video by Peppa ...Pig. In this video, Peppa and George help Granny and Grandpa Pig with their composting! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PElbErayZg

03.01.2022 In observation of Infant Mental Health week we would like to take a moment to express the importance of supporting your children's mental health, even during Infancy. At RECC we believe that good mental health begins in early childhood. Those first weeks, months and years of children's lives are so important which is why our fantastic team of nursery educators pay close attention to our babies, watching their expressions, movements and reactions, thinking about what the bab...y is trying to communicate and responding accordingly. For more information on how to promote quality attachment with babies visit the Australian Association for Infant Mental Health's website. https://www.aaimhi.org
