I couldnt help but notice his medals I just had to go and ask him about ...his life and say thank you for his service to our country. He became really overwhelmed and cried. He said thank you young man no one cares about what I have to say anymore. I told him that Im sure there are so many people that do. 09.01.2022 At Recognised Medals we never use adhesives in contact with medal surfaces, but we see a lot of examples of other mounters doing it, like this NM and ADM set. Using adhesive is lazy, and risks permanent damage to the medal surface. Choose a medal mounter who treats your medals like the sentimental and priceless heirlooms they are.

09.01.2022 Albert Oliver Norman, Driver No. 11, 18th Battalion 1st AIF. KIA by a shell at Hellfire Corner, Ypres Belgium, September 1917. His body was temporarily buried by friends but later could not be found. He is commemorated on the wall of the Menin Gate at Ypres Belgium along with over 54,000 Commonwealth soldiers whose graves and/or remains were never identified. Lest we forget.

08.01.2022 Many people prefer to wear replicas, while others prefer to wear the originals. Can you tell which is which in this photo? Where do you stand and why? Let us know below.

03.01.2022 What do you mean my medal isnt official? The term official award causes a lot of confusion, especially for employees of agencies that have internal awards systems. But dont worry, just because your internal award isnt official it doesnt mean it isnt real or important. Allow us to explain... The Australian Government has established an Honours and Awards framework. The criteria for each of these awards have approval of the Queen and their issue is administered by the ...Governor General, Department of Defence and/or the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet. These awards are referred to as official and include the various categories of the Order of Australia, bravery and gallantry awards such as the VC and Star of Courage, awards for excellence in particular fields such as the Australian Fire Service Medal, military service and campaign medals such as the Afghanistan Medal, and long service medals such as the National Medal. These official medals are worn on the left breast and they can and should be worn at ANZAC Day, state funerals and other official functions. In addition, some state and territory governments, and some federal and state agencies, have established their own awards including excellence, bravery and diligent and ethical service medals. These medals are called unofficial awards because despite being issued by the relevant government or government agency, they are not approved by the Queen. They are worn on the right breast, including daily on uniforms (as ribbon bars) and at functions related to the role of the issuing agency. Most agencies have reciprocal recognition arrangements of unofficial awards issued by similar or partner agencies. Unofficial awards may still be worn to official functions when in dress uniform, in accordance with agency guidelines. It is generally not appropriate however to wear unofficial medals at official functions when not in uniform. For example, it is frowned upon to wear an RFS Long Service Medal on civilian clothing on ANZAC Day. Take an example of a someone who served in Iraq with the army, then joined the police and served in the Solomon Islands. They would would wear their AASM, Iraq Medal, Police Overseas Service Medal and Australian Defence Medal on ANZAC Day, but would leave their 10 year police service medal at home. A few weeks later if they attend a police funeral, they would wear all five medals. Hope this helps! If you still have any questions, please post them in the comments below, or email us at [email protected]
