25.01.2022 The Women and Girls' Emergency Centre in Redfern is currently supporting 33 women via their Access Mentoring Program, providing opportunities for women to rebuild their futures after experiencing homelessness and/or domestic violence (DV). They're in desperate need of laptops for program participants - we've got a few, but need more. Have you got a spare laptop, or perhaps are upgrading at EOFY? We'll take your old laptop, securely erase the data, ensure it's fully functioni...ng and get it to WAGEC. For how to donate, see https://thereconnectproject.com.au/donate-a-phone/ Women’s & Girls’ Emergency Centre WAGEC Microsoft Dell Lenovo Apple ASUS

24.01.2022 I met Sam Walker from fix2U via ABC Sydney, back in February. He was being interviewed by Cassie McCullagh along with WhistleOut Australia's Joseph Hanlon, about the rise of smartphone ownership. Not being shy to a spot of talkback radio, I called and talked about the importance of the Right to Repair and keeping old mobile phones in operation via The Reconnect Project. Sam got in touch after the show and has become a super supporter - donating phones and offering us free use of his workshop equipment for some of the more specialised repairs. Fix2U are looking for more technicians to join their team Australia-wide. If you are, or know someone who is, a top notch smartphone repairer, contact fix2U.

20.01.2022 Happy dance! The awesome team at Dynaweld rallied around the workplace to put together this huuuuuuge box of mobile phones, tablets and laptops. Thanks Dynaweld, you've earned the title of Donation Hero :-) #donationhero #reuseandrepair #helpushelpothers

19.01.2022 So fantastic to receive this batch of phones today via the wonderful Emma Heyde Hornsby Councillor who personally collected them from the Thornleigh waste management centre and delivered them to our mobile repair partner IPulse Tech Repair Specialists in Dural. Community action at its finest

17.01.2022 If we can’t fix something, we can still strip it down, pull out the parts and essentially Frankenstein a working phone together. We don’t see any item as waste, but as a resource that you’ve just got to find the right use for. Anything that we can't use is recycled via MobileMuster #zerowaste #sustainable #ecofriendly #reduce #upcycle #sustainability #zerowastehome #reuse #righttorepair

17.01.2022 We are unashamedly repair nerds here at The Reconnect Project and are rejoicing at the Productivity Commission's draft report into 'The Right to Repair' released today, including these recommendations: "Manufacturers would have to provide consumers and repairers with access to spare parts under a Productivity Commission plan to cut waste and make it cheaper to fix products including cars, whitegoods and smartphones." Yes. YES. YEEEEESSSS!!!

16.01.2022 Starting soon.......a live streamed chat with Brad from Flicks4good, talking all things mobile phone reuse!

16.01.2022 Thanks for the donation! So lovely to open the mailbox and find parcels with phones and tablets

16.01.2022 This is why we do what we do. The digital gap in Australia is growing and its effects on students have been highlighted this year with Covid-19 and social isolation. The Reconnect Project will take donations of mobile phones, tablets and laptops in any condition. The devices are securely erased of all data, then refurbished or repaired. Through our networks with places such as Women’s & Girls’ Emergency Centre WAGEC, Counterpoint Community Services, YWCA Australia, Women's Community Shelters and Parramatta Mission, we're providing devices to people who desperately need them.

15.01.2022 More phones than fingers to text with! These have gone straight to Women's Community Shelters to support their clients at this time of social isolation. #kindnesspandemic

13.01.2022 The kindness of strangers. Thank you to the generous soul who donated this as new phone. #kindnesspandemic #communitysupport

12.01.2022 This is what happens when you donate a phone, tablet or laptop to The Reconnect Project. Someone receives a lovely gift, giving them the tools to (re)connect with family, friends and essential services. Women's Community Shelters recently received 35 phones from us, now ready to be given to women arriving at one of their 7 shelters.

12.01.2022 It's lockdown here in Sydney. We've already received requests for phones and laptops for at-risk youth whose Caseworkers are desperately trying to maintain their counselling sessions. Whilst our repair shopfront is closed for two weeks, we'll continue to supply quality refurbished mobile devices to people who would otherwise be disconnected during this time. We cannot accept physical donations right now, but please consider donating some dollars (it's a tax deductible donation!) to help us purchase the necessary spare parts like batteries and charging cables.

09.01.2022 If you had to flee your country, what's the one piece of technology you'd take with you? And what if it got damaged, lost, or was confiscated? The Reconnect Project's first ever recipient of a refurbished mobile phone is a refugee living in community detention in Sydney's north. During Covid-19, the phone has been a lifeline, keeping him connected to his local support networks and family overseas. #worldrefugeeday2020

07.01.2022 We can't agree more! Recycling is at the end of the line. Prioritise reuse and repair, keeping these in mind when you're purchasing an item. Buy secondhand or buy good quality that can be maintained in the long run.

07.01.2022 Your donation is not just a device, it's a chance for someone in the community to (re)connect with family, friends and essential services. #zerowaste #sustainable #ecofriendly #reduce #upcycle #sustainability #zerowastehome #reuse #righttorepair

07.01.2022 The importance of digital connectivity in reducing social isolation has been highlighted this year. It's great that this initiative in Britain has the backing of a telco to provide data - something that The Reconnect Project aspires to. I was isolated I was unable to ring [support organisations] and they were unable to connect with me, said Paddy, 38, who had no phone. I couldn’t speak to friends and family. You could cope without a sleeping bag, but not without communication.

06.01.2022 #THROWBACKTHURSDAY. This picture was taken of Annette, the Founder of The Reconnect Project in December 2020. Annette had the pleasure of speaking at the Public Service Association's Womens Council meeting about how important a clean, non-traced phone is for someone fleeing an abusive relationship. Technology can be used for coercive control - the person who manages a family phone plan can see who you're calling, potentially access your voicemail and can geolocate your phone.... Apps that have stalkerware embedded in their code can do the same thing. The Reconnect Project uses military grade software to securely erase all data from phones, tablets and laptops donated to us. The devices we provide to people in need are clean and safe. #coercivecontrol #nodomesticviolence #mobilephonesafety via @renewedbyannette #zerowaste #zerodechet #sustainable #ecofriendly #reduce #upcycle #sustainability #zerowastehome #reuse #righttorepair

06.01.2022 When you've forgotten your passcode and you keep trying and your phone locks you out...... Please remember to factory reset (erase all contacts and settings) before you donate your phones to us. Devices that still have iCloud or Google account information in their Settings sadly cannot be reused. It's great for security and privacy but blocks us from resetting the phone ready for someone in need, rendering the phone only useful for harvesting parts. If you can't remember your passcode, include your contact details with the device - once we receive it we can talk you through how to reset your phone remotely.

04.01.2022 Parramatta people: If you've got a phone, tablet or laptop to donate, Parramatta Mission is now an authorised donation point for The Reconnect Project. You can drop your donation in at 119 Macquarie street Parramatta, we'll then erase the data from your device and ensure it is in full working order before it goes to a good home- helping reconnect someone in need.

02.01.2022 Thanks Brad at Flicks4good for having me on the Changemakers show today and helping spread the word about The Reconnect Project. Check out Flicks4good for topical, interesting and thought provoking interviews, and follow them to support Brad's mission to create a free streaming platform with quality entertaining and educative content, verbally translated so people in developing nations who can't read subtitles will be able to access it.

02.01.2022 By donating a phone, tablet or laptop, you're helping us help others to be connected with family, friends and essential services. Donation drop off locations and mail-in details are on our website: www.thereconnectproject.com.au/donate-a-phone

01.01.2022 There's someone behind the scenes at The Reconnect Project who is a whizz with design and colour and social media and websites. She doesn't let us take her photo so this is the closest we'll get! Anna has been to the paint shop, choosing colour samples in preparation for something exciting......The Reconnect Project is opening a repair shop in early 2021, providing quality mobile device repairs and refurbished phones for sale. By using The Reconnect Project to have your devices repaired, you'll be supporting our mission to provide mobile devices to people in need and closing the digital divide in Australia.
