23.01.2022 The Greek root of the word system is 'synhistanai' and literally means 'to place together'....We can reduce the world to a whole just as easily as we can reduce it to a collection of parts. Neither the whole nor parts are primary; they come into being through the dynamic processes that define their identity through relationships and networks of interactions. ~ Daniel Christian Wahl (Designing Regenerative Cultures) https://youtu.be/yxYo9R1aVcQ

02.01.2022 https://www.australianpollinatorweek.org.au/ - What is pollination and why is it important? Unlike animals, plants can’t move around in search of a mate, to reproduce. Therefore, plants need pollinators to transfer the male sex cells (pollen) to the female reproductive parts of flowers. This process is called pollination, and it leads to fertilization. Good fertilisation helps plants develop seeds and fruit that feed countless animals in the world, including us. Importance of... biodiversity Pollinators drive biodiversity, and globally, nearly 90 percent of wild flowering plant species depend, at least in part, on the transfer of pollen by animals. (IPBES, 2016) Over 75% of the world’s food crops (by type) rely on animal pollinators for yield and/or quality and these crops contribute 35% of global crop volume and represent an estimated market value of AUS$350-$860 billion.(IPBES, 2016) Pollinators provide essential ecosystem services in the natural landscapes as well as within agricultural/horticultural and urban environments.

01.01.2022 This is a gratefully received letter from Erin , a recent participant on our 2021 Volunteer week 4-10th. "Dear Lizz, Justin, Richard, Susan, and Rowan, I would like to thank you for hosting my peers and I during Volunteer Week 2021 and supervising us for our community internship. I had the most incredible time at Wild Mountains and experienced immense growth through your guidance and support. I was initially interested in volunteering at Wild Mountains to learn how to liv...e more sustainably and give back to the environment, however, the benefits I gained through this experience far exceeded my expectations and I am very grateful for all I have learnt both personally and professionally. In working alongside yourselves and my peers I have developed many skills that will assist with my future employability including communication, problem solving, critical thinking and negotiation. I now feel more confident trying new things and have developed a more positive outlook and life by learning to appreciate the little things and approach every situation with an open mind. My time at Wild Mountains also reinforced my personal commitment to helping the environment and has cemented my decision to continue my learning through a Master of Environment. Most importantly, I am confident that the relationships built, and memories made during my time at Wild Mountains will last a lifetime and I am very grateful for the happiness this experience has brought to my life. Once again, I would like to thank you for your time and for welcoming our group with open arms. I have loved getting to know you all and wish you all well in the meantime. I look forward to revisiting during a volunteer weekend in the near future. Yours Sincerely, Erin Mullen."
