The tool can be administered by both health and non-health professionals and could especially be useful for injury case managers. 18.01.2022 Does physiotherapist-led stress inoculation training integrated with exercise improve pain-related disability more than exercise only in patients with whiplash-associated disorders? The answer is yes, it does. Research conducted by Professor Michele Sterling and colleagues demonstrated that the stress inoculation and exercise group improved more than the exercise alone group by clinically meaningful amounts. Australian health professionals with experience in working with individuals with chronic pain, general practitioners, and community-based occupational therapy driving assessors. 2. Individuals with Chronic Pain (Adults over the age of 18 years old who hold a valid Australian driver's licence; Have persistent non-cancer pain for at least t...hree months (i.e. i.e. spinal pain, low back pain, neck pain); and, Have not been diagnosed with a condition affecting the vestibular or central nervous system or visual acuity.) 18.01.2022 Congratulations to Dr Elise Gane, Conjoint Research Fellow with RECOVER, who received an award for her conference presentation at the Transform 2019 National Australian Physiotherapy Conference in Adelaide on 17th 19th October. Elises paper Do people with minor to moderate injuries return to work within one month of a road traffic crash was awarded the Best Early Career Research Paper at in the Occupational Health stream. Other RECOVER team members on this paper were Associate Professor Venerina Johnston, Dr Esther Smits and Dr Charlotte Brakenridge. 12.01.2022 Congratulations to Dr Atiyeh Vaezipour from the Improving the delivery of evidence-based services team, who together with colleagues in speech pathology at RBWH (Burns, Hickey, Burfein, Farrell) were successful in obtaining an RBWH Foundation grant. The project Co-design, development, and evaluation of an immersive virtual reality therapy tool for individuals with communication disorders. 06.01.2022 Professor Michele Sterling is currently the Program Lead for the Improving health outcomes after musculoskeletal injury program at RECOVER Injury Research Centre. Her main focuses of research are: the mechanisms underlying the transition from acute to chronic pain; prediction of outcome following injury; developing and testing new treatments to prevent chronic pain and the translation of research findings to clinical practice. Professor Sterling has led over 10 large clinical trials, the majority of which were NHMRC funded. She has published >200 papers which have been cited over 10,500 times. 01.01.2022 Neck and lower back soft tissue injuries are common. For example, approximately 75% of all road traffic crash survivors experience whiplash symptoms. Pain relief medicines are commonly prescribed for these types of injuries. 01.01.2022 The Facilitating return to pre-injury functioning team and the Acquired Brain injury Outreach Service (ABIOS) recently presented outcomes of their collaborative research project investigating the current vocational rehabilitation pathways for persons with brain injury. The project, VoISE (Vocational Interventions for Sustainable Employment), aimed to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement. The workshop was a resounding success! Consumers and stakeholders were actively engaged in the days activities and provided the research team with a wealth of valuable feedback.
