25.01.2022 Buddhist perspectives are universal and can be found in the most unlikely places. Friedrich Nietzsche was a philosopher who lived in a time and place that was heavily influenced by western culture and religion. Yet he developed a philosophy that has many similarities to the 4 Noble Truths and 8 Fold Path. He believed that suffering is inevitable, therefore we must strive to develop what he called a ‘Will To Power’ which is a similar outcome (except with a western flavour) to... what the 4 Noble Truths and 8 Fold Path aims to achieve. Happy Wednesday everyone! What’s one thing you could work on today to create less suffering for yourself and others around you?
15.01.2022 The ability to choose between reacting or acknowledging without judgement is freedom
15.01.2022 Buddhist practices teaches us that happiness comes from within. This idea of creating our experiences as opposed to outsourcing them is also known as ‘Internal locus of control’. It can often feel overwhelming to know where to even begin when trying to make improvements in our lives. Choosing our Locus of control each day is one simple way of getting started on that journey.
12.01.2022 Practice the pause. Pause before judging. Pause before assuming. Pause before accusing. Pause whenever you're about to react harshly & you'll avoid doing and saying things you'll later regret. ~Lori Deschene
06.01.2022 Meditation can be such a powerful tool, however the concept is so foreign to most of us that we tend to give up the practice before seeing any real benefits. Living in a society so heavily focussed on instant gratification make it difficult to recognise the advantages to a practice in delayed gratification.
05.01.2022 People, places and things. These are out of our control. It’s difficult to face up to the reality of our inability to control things around us, especially when we are invested in the outcome. ... The universe is still going to do its thing regardless of how badly we want a certain outcome. If we can truly comprehend this concept, we can begin our journey into enlightenment.
03.01.2022 Go with the flow! Sometimes it’s easy to take life too seriously, the tendency to do so can manifest itself into suffering. Taking an observational approach to our thoughts can uncover what’s really happening, rather than the stories we’ve been telling ourselves
02.01.2022 "Mindfulness is not particularly religious; it is not even a practice. It is a natural behavior that one begins to develop in a very simple manner. At the beginning, you may feel it is somewhat false or that you are making it up. However as you go on mindfulness becomes natural and real, and at the same time very personal." -Chogyam Trungpa "The Profound Treasury of the Ocean of Dharma"
