25.01.2022 Monday is the Labour Day public holiday - our offices will be closed on this day so our team can have a well earned long weekend. See you Tuesday!

25.01.2022 OT supervisor superstar Meagan is taking her 'supervision appointment' to a whole new level here! Our clinicians aren't stuck in a clinic or hospital all day - they are out and about every day. That also means that when OT supervisor Meagan (right), met up with OT Paige (left) for a supervision appointment, they did it in style with coffee. BUT, the best thing about this pic.....Recovery Station also knows how to be flexible when life throws a curve ball...... That gorgeous l...ittle dude in the middle had a bonus day off daycare due to a flooded facility.....not so great for mummy's work day, but mummy (Meagan) is the ultimate mulit-tasker! So he got to come along and listen to report discussions - BUT he got a hot chocolate and movie time!! Woohoo - everyone was winning! #flexibleworkplaces #cutedate See more

23.01.2022 Today is Allied Health Professionals Day! With 8 Allied Health Professions under our roof, this is an important day to recognise. Our multi-discipline team can be celebrated together - not just 1 profession or 1 condition. Thank you for all the hard work and effort you put into your job, for helping people overcome barriers and live more fulfilling lives, for your care and compassion and always going the extra mile, for your camaraderie and support, your dedication to quality... care and making such a positive difference to the communities we live in. It’s because of you that people can dream and live their best lives, because of you that they can return to activities they love; get out and about in the community; age at home; engage in work; walk with confidence; feel re-energised; communicate more clearly; learn important life skills; to improve self care; to live independently and much more. In particular we thank all allied health professionals for the work they are doing in contributing to the community’s health and wellbeing throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. As essential health care workers, the ongoing care they are continuing to provide the broader community by continuing to see people in their homes, our clinics and in aged care facilities, has kept some of the most vulnerable members of our communities connected, supported and healthy. #AHPsDay #strongertogether #alliedhealth

Our team is growing, with the introduction of Sue, Danica, Julie and Ellie - all ready to assist you (and your clinicians) to achieve your goals.

21.01.2022 Starting the week with a good news story from our Physiotherapy team.....

19.01.2022 You never know if you don’t give it a go. Our Clinicians work hard to find the best product, solution and outcome for our clients. Two of our many amazing OT’s, Meagen and Krystele have been working hard with one of their clients, to achieve the best suitable outcome. The client requires a new wheel chair trailer, as her way of getting her current equipment into the community, and the only way to find the best fit is to undertake a trial ... Through connections with suppliers, a trial was able to be organised at her home to ensure the proposed equipment is going to work for her. In this instance, the particular trailer pictured, known as the Bruno Chariot, was not the best fit for the client, but with the options of a trial being available, the clinicians and the clients are able to make the right decision. Choosing the right equipment is not an easy decision and with so many important factors to take on board, the opportunity to be able to do this helps make that decision just a little bit easier. We can’t wait to see what option you have decided to go with. Keep up the great work Meagen and Krystele!

15.01.2022 Saturday 14th November is World's Diabetes Day. Our wonderful team of Dietitians and Exercise Physiologists work with our clients to educate and provide solutions to manage their diabetes. Caitlin, our Senior Dietitian and Clinical Supervisor has provided the below suggestions: ... Eating a balanced diet, maintaining a healthy weight and enjoying regular physical activity can assist in reducing your risk of developing diabetes. A healthy diet is an essential part of diabetes management as it can help to control blood glucose (sugar) levels and achieve a healthy weight. Good diabetes management can help reduce the risk of complications such as: Heart disease, Kidney disease, Stroke, Eye problems, Foot problems and Circulation problems. It is important that any dietary advice is tailored to your individual needs by a Dietitian. Tips to manage diabetes include: 1) Dietary fat: Both the type, and amount of fat we eat is important. Reduce the amount of foods containing saturated fats in your diet and replace with sources of unsaturated fats 2) Fibre: increase the amount of fibre eaten each day. Soluble fibre (found in foods such as beans, fruit and oats) may help to control blood glucose levels. Try to choose high fibre breads and cereals, fruit and vegetables each day. 3) Carbohydrate: The carbohydrate-containing foods that provide the best blood glucose level control are those that are slowly digested and absorbed into the blood stream. These are foods with a low glycaemic index (GI). 4) Ensure regular meals each day. Skipping meals can affect blood glucose levels and leave you feeling unwell. 5) Keep active: Regular physical activity is important in managing diabetes. Try to be active each day as this can assist with blood glucose control. If you would like to discuss your needs with Diabetes please contact our Referrals Team - [email protected]

10.01.2022 Recovery Station is taking training to a whole new level Actually. It’s Skye our Team Coordinator and her daughter doing all of the training This is Skye, who is currently being a puppy carer for Yo-yo who is a Guide Dog in training!... Becoming a guide dog trainer is a huge responsibility and Skye is well and truly up for the role. Skye is fortunate enough to be able to train Yo-Yo whilst still being able to attend to her normal work role as a Team Coordinator here at Recovery Station. Yo-Yo does get plenty of downtime at home, but while at work, it is important for Yo-Yo to stick to a strict routine. Skye has provided the Team at Recovery Station with a set of rules for us to stick to like when Yo-Yo has his orange Guide Dog coat on, it is important for us to not interact with him as he is in ‘working mode’. ‘and boy is she strict’not even a sneaky pat is allowed. But all jokes aside, turning a cute pup into a fully working Guide Dog involves a remarkable process. The selected puppies undergo an intensive five-month program with a guide Dog Instructor to learn the complex skills required for their new job and Skye is doing an amazing job with Yo-Yo. The Recovery Station team are happy to support initiatives like these so others have a guide dog to help them achieve their goals. You are both doing a great job and Yo-Yo will be a great companion and leader for someone special. Welcoming Yo-yo to the Recovery Station Team and keep up the great work!

03.01.2022 We give thanks to the men, women and animals who served our country with great strength, courage and pride. "On 11 November 1918, the guns of the Western Front fell silent after four years of continuous warfare. With their armies retreating and close to collapse, German leaders signed an Armistice, bringing to an end the First World War. From the summer of 1918, the five divisions of the Australian Corps had been at the forefront of the allied advance to victory. Beginning wi...th their stunning success at the battle of Hamel in July, they helped to turn the tide of the war at Amiens in August, followed by the capture of Mont St Quentin and Pèronne, and the breaching of German defences at the Hindenburg Line in September. By early October the exhausted Australians were withdrawn from battle. They had achieved a fighting reputation out of proportion to their numbers, but victory had come at a heavy cost. They suffered almost 48,000 casualties during 1918, including more than 12,000 dead. In the four years of the war more than 330,000 Australians had served overseas, and more than 60,000 of them had died. The social effects of these losses cast a long shadow over the postwar decades". excerpt from the Australian War Memorial https://www.awm.gov.au/commemoration/remembrance-day
