19.01.2022 Over the last 6 weeks Rec People has provided a platform for Local Government, NSO, SSA and peak bodies in the Sport, Recreation and the Leisure sector around Australia to come together to identify challenges, solutions, share information and learn new things. Above all, to connect and support each other through the COVID-19 restrictions. We created this forum in the spirit of pro activity, and not letting COVID-19 completely put an end to activity in our sector. Last week we... had 93 people attend our online forum. Unlike webinars which have one audience, our forum is split up into 5 breakout rooms - Club Development, Leadership, Aquatic and Leisure Centre Management, Rec Planning and Capital Works and Participation and Health - to enable participants to drill down their discussions into areas that interest them. It takes quite a bit of technology expertise to make this happen but we feel the effort is worth it. We have had some fantastic guest speakers over the last 6 weeks, including the CEO of Manningham City Council in Andrew Day. And participants have been able to collect and share a valuable list of resources to aid them in their jobs. We have done all this without seeking to profit in any way except to advance the readiness of all of us that work in sport, rec and leisure to meet the challenges that will inevitably come when we get to the other side of the curve. Thanks for your support. If you are a professional in the areas of sport, rec and leisure working in an LGA, NSO, SSA or peak industry body and would like to join us for our next session on Thursday 7th May at 11am, register now at https://recpeople.com.au/this-world-can/ Please be aware we have a 100 seat limit and the forum is open to industry professionals only. We look forward to welcoming you there.

18.01.2022 Hello everyone, The "This World Can" initiative that we started in order to get LGA and sport, rec and leisure industry staff networking during COVID-19 is now in its 8th week. This week we have Dr Bridie ODonnell, Director, Office for Women in Sport and Recreation, as our guest speaker. Bridie will explore the opportunity for the sector to do things differently in a positive way as we come out the other side of the curve. Shutting down was simple, opening back up will be f...ar more complex. Well also have Bruce Mackay join our Aquatics and Leisure Ops and Management breakout room. Bruce will provide tips for the planning of reopening of contract and in-house managed aquatic and leisure facilities when the time comes. Our forum is for industry professionals only and we do have seating limits but we encourage you to join us whether youre new to LG, Sport Rec and Leisure or an experienced operator. Its all about sharing knowledge so we can all prosper together. To register https://recpeople.com.au/this-world-can/ Parks and Leisure Australia

03.01.2022 We love it when our people succeed. As a recent Bachelor of Business Graduate (Sports Management) of Deakin University, Ryans CV was a very easy 2 page read. After an initial meeting in Geelong, Mandy was convinced this young man understood the principles of supporting community sport and was passionate about promoting active and healthy lifestyles. So, she gave him a go! Ryan completed two temporary placements as a Sports Club Liaison Officer at Nillumbik Shire Council and Stonnington City Council over a 9-month period. Ryan was successful in gaining a permanent position at Colac Otway Shire as the Recreation Development Officer starting next week. We are so proud to have helped Ryan on his journey into the wonderful world of Sport, Recreation and Leisure in Local Government. We wish Ryan all the best for the future.

We look forward to supporting you in your roles in 2020 and welcoming even more great people to our huddle.
