16.01.2022 Since 2016 Recycle My Mattress has been operating as part of Community Resources and Soft Landing Mattress Recycling. Now as our membership and impact are growing, Community Resources and industry members determined the scheme should transfer to an independent entity. Our new administrator is the Australian Bedding Stewardship Council Limited (ABSC), an independent not-for-profit that has been established to take Recycle My Mattress to new heights. Soft Landing Mattress Recycling will remain a preferred recycler and member of ABSC. With our new administrator comes a fresh new look with our new Recycle My Mattress branding. 14.01.2022 While many people have lost faith in recycling because of what is called the "China National Sword" policy (aka we don't want your crap anymore), there is some great work happening to make higher value products from our waste (aka unwanted resources). This is a long article, so skip half way down to "processing", "design" and "end of life" for some good news stories.

10.01.2022 Did you know? There are 4 categories of outputs that come from a mattress: 1. Steel from the inner springs that is easily recycled 2. Foam from the cushioning which is used to make carpet underlay 3. Fabric fibres from the exterior of the mattress and 4. Wood from the bed base ... It is the fabric and wood that are difficult to recycle. Research is being conducted all over the world to find better ways to reuse or recycle these parts through product stewardship. Here in Australia we (Recycle My Mattress) have been working with Soft Landing and UNSW to research innovative new recycling and reuse options. Want to learn more? 02.01.2022 An invitation from our friends at the Worlds Biggest Garage Sale: It’s estimated in Australia alone that 20 million Christmas gifts are unwanted by their recipients, which are all at risk of ending up in landfill or lying dormant for years to come. This year, World’s Biggest Garage Sale is on a mission to save millions of items from this fate. We’ve launched #OneSecond to encourage everyone to source just one secondhand item this year instead of new, whether that be something... you relove yourself or buy from your local secondhand vendors. If we all just gave one gift secondhand this year, it would massively power the circular economy, help us reinvest in our communities, contribute to causes we care about and do something awesome for the planet at a time when our collective waste is usually the highest. Give #onesecond this Christmas and let your people know you’re happy with #onesecond, too. While we don't recommend you gift a second hand-mattress, what about a bedroom mirror, a book or something for the garden? Will you make the pledge? Click the link below t.ly/TlFd or go to https://worldsbiggestgaragesale.com.au/onesecond
