18.01.2022 Riding the North Australia Railway from Birdum in October 1941 on the last leg of their journey to Darwin, the 2/4th Machine Gun Battalion arrive to find conditions not quite as they may have expected. More notes on pages for each image.

11.01.2022 SNAKE CREEK NAVAL ARMAMENT DEPOT. The Allied Works Council commenced construction of the complex near Adelaide River in 1943. Intended to store naval shells for... the Royal Australian Navy, it was also used for other munitions. A huge facility with laboratories, munitions storage, administration and accommodation facilities it was accessed by road and a rail spur line from the North Australia Railway servicing ordnance stores and other facilities. Although completed in 1945 it was too late to contribute to the war effort however it remained operational by the RAN and RAAF through to the 1960’s. See more
