16.01.2022 Here is one of the lovely Art Deco treasures we have just listed on our Red Beards eBay store.... eBay item number:222749876902 (another beauty also listed!) This is a Royal Winton Grimwades vintage china jardiniere or posy bowl. Makes a beautiful table decoration either filled with flowers or a stunning accessory in the home. A frog is situated in the top for ease of placing flowers. Very collectable and desirable, this vase was produced in the early 1940s. This feature...d jardinire reflects the unusual triangular shape with a stepped base and ornate handles, a characteristic Art Deco style. The anemones are grouped against a soft ochre/mossy hand painted background. The flowers are transfer printed and then hand painted in cerise, rust, white and blue. The design repeats on the back. The artist signature is near the base. The condition is excellent for vintage, some expected crazing and a touch of wear to the handles, the pattern and colouring is all still absolutely beautiful! Price, expected to fetch $550. Was listed in the Carters price guide at $675, 12 years ago. Items like this appreciate over time as they become ever rarer and are sought after by collectors, especially in such good condition. We offer free regular postage in Australia and include insurance for this precious object. The Anemone pattern is one the most popular flower designs. "The Pottery Gazette" circa 1940 noted the newly released pattern and compared the design to the artworks of still life painter William Hunt. The Anemone decoration is appealing and we feel it will be successful. About the Art Deco period: Exciting times was the Art Deco period. After World War 1, times changed Suddenly travel was faster, more affordable, think ocean liners, Howard Hughes aviation, art with Pablo Picasso, Clarice Cliff and her Bizarre pottery designs. An era of growth, with new buildings, skyscrapers were suddenly going up and everyone was joyful and adventurous after the war years. New was it! Innovative shapes and designs were introduced during the Art Deco period which extended from the roaring 1920s through to the early 1940s. Inspiration was drawn from architecture, aviation, even the pyramids! (due to the exciting find of Tutankhamuns tomb in Egypt) Art Deco was a style that could be afforded by everyone, due to mass production. Interestingly, the term art deco was adopted in the 1960s when interest in the style was revived. Summing up, one could describe the art deco style as classical meets geometric.) with overlaps of the new Industrial Age combined with mass production. From the 1940s, Deco morphed into Art Moderne influencing the next wave of furniture and products, which featured less detail and more streamlined, sleeker shapes with industrial overtones.

13.01.2022 oh I do love a nice tea set! This is the other vintage art deco Clarice Cliff tea set, nice full tea cup size with 6 trios, matching cake plate, little sandwich dish and milk jug. Pretty much in great condition, a couple of the cups have either a teeny chip or graze and some minor discolouration to the interiors. But overall the set looks lovely! Again, lovely to have an almost complete set...Very sweet pattern with flowers and ribbons.... enjoy the pictures! Clarice Cliff is regarded as one of the most influential ceramic designers of the 20th Century and her creations, which vary from tea sets, vases, plates and more, are highly collectable... Most well known are her abstract 1930s designs such as Bizarre or Crocus. Her wares still command high prices at auctions and salesrooms.... Cheers for now, Linda.

11.01.2022 Just listed in our Red Beards eBay store.... This charming antique porcelain tea set for 8 was produced by MZ Austria circa late 1800s and is decorated with a pretty Bridal Rose pattern in pink with delicate scalloped edges and gold trim. Priced at $199.00 or best offer, includes free regular insured postage Australia wide. The tea set is comprised of: 8 trios, 1 sugar/slop bowl, 1 creamer jug, 2 cake plates... A wonderful find to have a tea set of this age so complete. And what a marvellous history of conversations this tea set must have had! from Queen Victorias era to present day... Generally very good antique condition commensurate for age (over 100 years old) and use. No discolouration or crazing. Some age related wear to the pattern/gold here and there and little spots, but the set still looks good. No chips... but... a very old solder repair to one cup handle and two other cups do have hairline cracks. (no leaking) Close up pics provided. The other five cups are good as are all the other pieces. Overall the tea set still looks pretty good for age... and can certainly still be used. A lovely collectable from a bygone age. The MZ Austria backstamp represents the Moritz Zdekauer porcelain works in Altrohlau, Austria, operating from 1880s to early 1900s. The MZ Austria stamp pinpoints the era this tea set was made. The company produced wares for export, mainly to the American and Dutch colonies before it was bought out in 1909 by C.M. Hutschenreuther and the stamp was altered to MZ Altrohlau. Over decades the company has gone through various buyouts, merges and European wars, but still operates to this day as Starorolsky Porcelain.

09.01.2022 What a pretty find... and you can find this on our Red Beards Treasure House eBay store right now... priced at $260, fair offers considered, with free regular postage within Australia eBay item number: 222752710744 This Romance n Roses tea set includes a large teapot, two cups and saucers, sugar bowl, milk jug, and a large serving tray. What a lovely way to serve breakfast in bed!... The set is decorated with masses of pink roses and features 18th century Romance cameos, front and back with contemporary floral green trims. The cameos vary to each item, depicting courtship scenes, in the style of 18th century paintings by French Rococo artist Jean-Honor Fragonard. The cups and saucers have an unusual quatrefoil shape which makes a nice point of difference... The sixties and seventies introduced new styles in tea wares. The growing popularity of mugs versus tea cups and designers emerging from art schools and poly technics with fresh ideas. Bold shapes were combined with psychedelic florals, or in a nod to past, with Victorian botanical prints and artistic themes. It was the experimental anything goes era. This tea set is a nice example of the new contemporary style... Excellent vintage condition, lovely tea set, ready to use. No discolouration, chips, fractures or crazing. 08.01.2022 Just listed on our Red Beards eBay store, this original Art Deco Royal Doulton 21 piece Tea Set. In lovely condition, the pattern is Glamis Thistle circa 1930s. The set has 6 trios, cake plate, sugar bowl and milk jug, priced at $350. The set has free regular postage Australia wide and we are giving a free EPNS tea strainer with the set. Link to eBay , item number 312014862273 This Art Deco tea set is a great vintage find... with a Scottish connection! Here is a wee bit ...of history... The thistle is the national flower of Scotland. Legend has it that when a Viking raiding party landed, some of them stepped on thistles and their screams alerted the Scots to their presence. Glamis Castle was the childhood home of The Queen Mother. Originally a hunting lodge in the 1300s, in present day it looks more like a French Chateau. The castle is also referred to in Shakespeares Macbeth. It is reputed to be haunted and there are many tales connected to its bloody past... it is said that King Malcolm II was murdered there. Of course, Scotland has many such legends and myths mixed with romantic stories! So now you have some conversation with your cup of tea!!

08.01.2022 Well, lookie here what we found under all the boxes... another English china tea set, a very nice and desirable Royal Winton chintz one.... this pattern is Anemone and has the rare subtle brown background, rather than the more vibrant colours such as the burgundy. I have seen a jam pot also in this colouring, but really nothing else, so it is quite rare.... It is a 6 piece setting, so full size tea cups with saucer and square side plate, milk jug, sugar bowl and a matching c...ake plate. And in pretty good condition too, some expected crazing and 1 cup has a teeny teeny nible to the rim (hardly noticeable) and another has a small age fracture to the interior which is not through to the pattern side. The pattern and delicate colouring is still excellent, ALL hand coloured, so you will see that each piece is slightly different. Gosh, how long would that have taken??? Imagine going to DJs or any dept store these days and seeing if you could find a hand painted tea set, let alone the cost of it.... This lovely tea set dates from the 1930s, so a true Art Deco set. This set would now be 80 years old, it would be nice for someone to buy and keep and pass on as it has survived this long.... just think of all the conversations it would have heard... World War II, Kennedy assination, Queen Elizabeth crowned, probably the scandalous abdication of King Edward VIII, landing on the moon, television available, Australian history too.... apologies, I am going on a bit, but I do find it fascinating. Enjoy the photos! This tea set will be listed on our Red Beards eBay store over Christmas, so you get first viewing :) See more

01.01.2022 Hello and a Merry Christmas to all Hope everyone has a wonderful day!
01.01.2022 I hope you all enjoyed the last post of the Chintz Breakfast Set... which is now available to purchase on our Red Beards eBay store. It already has a lot of lookers and some watchers! Listed now on our ebay store is this lovely rare vintage Royal Albert 21 piece tea set, comprised of 6 trios, milk & sugar and twin handled cake plate and in lovely condition. eBay item number:31200773979 Circa late 1930s to early 1940s, the set features raised white polka dots on ruby red ch...ina. The centre of each piece is embellished with little roses. We have seen some individual trios for sale, (from $90-$200 each) but never a whole matching set, so this is quite a prize! Polka dots were all the rage in the Art Deco era of the 1930s and 40s. The mania for polka dots carried through to the 50s and 60s and is currently enjoying a nostalgic revival. Two songs come to mind about polka dots...Think Frank Sinatras song Polka Dots and Moonbeams and Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini! Goodness me, what other patterns have songs about them? And... dear reader, circa 1940, the Los Angeles Times proclaimed You can sign your fashion life away on the polka-dotted line, and youll never regret it. Royal Albert was definitely on to something!! PS did I mention that we are also including an English china tea strainer by Crown Dorset with the set, as a little extra Christmas present? See more
