23.01.2022 Irritability is one of the commonly reported symptoms of Menopause (after the hot flush - which makes you irritable I imagine). When you consider the fact that peri menopause can kick in 5-10 years prior to menopause bringing about a host of uncomfortable symptoms it’s not wonder women feel a bit on the tetchy side... Menopause is often referred to as ‘the change of life’ and marks the end of a women’s reproductive cycling. Typically, menopause occurs between 45 55 yea...Continue reading

22.01.2022 One of our awesome patients bought me in the lovely long stems pictured today so I had a go at using the #ikebana vase I was recently gifted! I quite possibly got it all wrong but it was fun, looks pretty and I’ll get better with practice (any advice welcome)

19.01.2022 Summer has arrived, full of Yang energy, invigorated by the warm air, inspired by longer days and awash with the flurry of activity that is the festive season Getting caught up in the whirlwind of Summers arrival is not unusual. It coincides with the Christmas and New Year hustle and bustle which this year is amplified after a fraught 2020 The first two months of Summer is often a period of overindulgence with a general lack of attention paid to to rest and well being. Lot...s of New Years resolutions being planned of course for after this period of excess! We could tell you to take it easy, rest, avoid parties and focus on staying healthy but we know how challenging (and unlikely) that will be. So instead keep your eyes out for our next blog and newsletter which will help you navigate the silly season with some simple tips and Traditional Chinese Medicine wisdom When in doubt, stay a step ahead and balance the hectic out with some chill out appointments at Red Bridge

19.01.2022 For anyone who needs to hear this today

18.01.2022 Have you made a commitment to your health and are now feeling overwhelmed by the upcoming festive season? An all or nothing attitude can be the stumbling block that trips many people on their journey to health Do you feel there is a choice that must be made? You must either indulge and throw away any semblance of sense until January 1st (when the damage can be repaired with a New Years resolution and a big detox) OR alternatively perhaps you plan to practice complete ...diligence and deny any flexibility around diet and lifestyle over the holiday period Finding balance is essential Feeling deprived steals the joy from these celebratory meals and special occasions that should spark happiness and is detrimental to our mental health Just as damaging is throwing all wisdom and prior effort out the window to over indulging in foods and drinks (for weeks on end) that will impact our health both physical and mental So what to do? To create calm amongst the chaos balance is key. Don’t throw it all out the window! Continue to keep a routine - there is not going to be a party every single day. Make choices that support your health goals on a day to day basis. Look for ways of incorporating healthier choices into your festivities with recipes and activities The most important thing to remember is to give yourself the permission to enjoy the occasional guilt free indulgence that will accompany the Christmas get togethers with family and friends. Make sure these choices are your favourite things not just any old food on the no list. Something you love and will not regret. Don’t indulge on something that you are not that interested in for the sake of partaking, it’s a slippery slope! Above all else ensure these choices do not overflow into your daily routine (there is no need for a pack of Christmas Ferraro Roche on the couch every night) but a bit of leniency absolutely has a place in the coming month. It’s been a tough year and ultimatums of all or nothing rarely set us up for success. Be kind to yourself

17.01.2022 I’ve jumped on the Celery juice as part of an overhaul of my diet and in attempt to lower my blood pressure naturally and I’ve got to admit I’m really enjoying it Celery (Qin Cai) is fairly well known for its health benefits in both Western and Eastern medicine and is a popular addition to many weight loss, juice cleanse and dietary therapy programs From a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) perspective Celery works its magic on the Kidney, Stomach, Spleen and Liver meri...dians. It has a tonifying and cooling action, working to reduce damp, purify the blood and calm and clear the Shen As wonderful as all of that sounds it’s possibly not making much sense to those out there who are not familiar with TCM terminology! So when do we suggest Celery juice be included as part of dietary therapy? Lowering blood pressure Digestive aide To boost energy To cleanse the blood To cleanse the kidney and bladder To relieve heat in the body Menstrual cramps and heavy periods Constipation Menopause Rheumatism And many more! Every person is unique and dietary therapy should be tailored to your individual needs. If you are interested in finding out more about TCM dietary therapy or including celery juice into your health routine chat to Scott Stephens Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine next time you are in clinic to find out if it’s right for you

12.01.2022 This is what my Wednesday morning looked like and is part 2 of a Detoxification and Lymphatic flow session with the lovely Toni Clancy - LIFT Naturopathy! Even those in the business of keeping other people healthy often need support with their own health! Toni is my lady for all thing detox support and fixing up a very unhappy lymphatic system In Toni’s own words The Lymphatic System is our bodies garbage system and if you don’t clean it up you risk living in a disease... system and feeling pretty awful. It works alongside your circulatory system, but unlike blood it doesn’t have a pump (heart) to ensure it can circulate as it needs to. It relies totally on you exercising and breathing. I’m going to be working with Toni - in combination with acupuncture - to get my lymphatic system functioning better and support my body through detox so I can get rid of the unwanted restless legs, brain fog and of course the COVID kilos Wish me luck!
