25.01.2022 Day 1 Post 2 LET’S HAVE A MINI HISTORY LESSON! BLUSH:... Did you know that blush dates back all the way to the ancient Egyptians? How crazy is that? Back then, societies would use crushed up fruits, seeds, and roots rubbed on their cheeks and lips to add color! Then for a bit of time, cosmetics & makeup were frowned upon and pale skin was IN! It was a sign of wealth because it meant you were inside. Why couldn’t I have lived back then? ;) By 1720, blush was deemed okay to wear again and was noted as a trend’! However, they contained ingredients that could be harmful to the skin. In fact, it wasn’t until the late 1800s that safer blushes were created with ingredients like grapefruit and butter! In the 20th century, a rosy complexion was created with all different kinds of mediums: from liquid to powder to cream and anything in between! By the 1960s, blush became popular in warm browns. The 80’s welcomed back the bright red and pink blushes. And the 90s pushed everything from soft, light pinks to dark berry shades. NOW, it’s as if anything goes, but there ARE ways to find the best shades for your specific skin type and tone. We’ll go into that more later! CONCEALER: Concealers started as camouflage makeup and were mostly used to cover up scars, injuries, blemishes. In the 1950’s, concealers were formulated into a stick and started to get promoted on TV! Sales skyrocketed as the product began to be marketed for MORE than just covering blemishes. Today, we have SO many options with concealer. We’ve become experts on color-correcting in our homes using shades such as white, green, orange, red, and MORE to conceal and brighten as much or as little as we want. When you FIRST used a blush or concealer, what was it like? Mine was a light pink powder blush with a tiny brush that came with it! My concealer came in a twist up tube and was probably 10 shades too dark. How about you? Amanda
