22.01.2022 Must look at this.

20.01.2022 Today we lost a true champion of the environment and a very dear friend to so many. His passion and drive to make our region a better place, along with his beloved mangroves was an absolute inspiration to his friends at the Redcliffe Environmental Forum. His passion and his desire to get the job done has made the difference to so many people in the community. He was the driver and champion of so many projects and people along with Moreton Bay's, its flora and fauna including ...turtles, birds, koalas, our shorelines, wetlands and forests. He was a wonderful teacher and dedicated to educating students, teachers and members of the community. At REF, we will do everything we possibly can to continue his legacy and his dreams for the environment and especially his beloved Moreton Bay. Our condolences to his immediate family and friends. Rest in Peace Geoffrey Redman.

19.01.2022 The latest report card.

19.01.2022 Come on down to bushcare on Sunday, its a great way to start the day. You get to be outdoors in nature, spotting some wildlife and getting a bit of exercise in! This week we will be weeding and clearing plots for next months planting

17.01.2022 Killian's new at this, so he's made a bit of a mess! While this toon was done to celebrate Killian's new home, there's a troubling side to translocation I've si...nce been informed of. Koalas are territorial creatures, and their release after capture is not so simple as releasing them somewhere that appears safer. The shock of being moved far from what they know can wreck havoc on their health, with kidney failure and abstaining from eating being two examples. So while we'll stay optimistic about Killian's translocation, as co-inhabitants we need to be aware that when we develop bushland, simply picking the fauna up and dropping it elsewhere - without appropriate research, investigation, tracking, and follow up - may be replacing one threat with another. Please follow Moreton Bay Koala Rescue crews on FB, and consider supporting them with a purchase below (all profits to MBKR =D). Not only will you receive a fancy smancy item to proudly display, but you'll also get to feel just a little bit warm and fuzzy inside. http://www.facebook.com/moretonbaykoalarescue/ https://www.redbubble.com/shop/ap/67784428?asc=u #koala #koalarescue #marsupial #cartoon #koalarescue #australia #moretonbay #moretonbaykoalarescue #mbkr #inks #artist #artistsofinstagram #wildlife #nature #knitting #craft #cute #notforprofit

17.01.2022 A walk through Hays Inlet this morning before the clouds and wind rolled in.

16.01.2022 Great morning weeding, picking up rubbish and clearing plots for our planting next month! We are going to need all hands on deck for our November Bushcare, it will be our last of the year and we plan on planting lots of plants!

16.01.2022 Thanks to members of Redcliffe Environmental Forum , Moreton Bay Koala Rescue, Pine Rivers Koala Care, Endeavour Veterinary Ecology, Koala Action Inc. and Moreton Bay Regional Council who gave of their time to conduct a koala count in the Silcock Reserve, Hays Inlet and Hercules Road Reserve this morning. Working in hot conditions in thick terrain - total of 57 koalas spotted (including count numbers by MBRC from the Redcliffe Golf Course and Redcliffe Clay Target Shooting Range). Fantastic effort by all. Let’s hope we can work towards fencing solutions, regeneration and corridor connectivity to keep this koala population safe.

15.01.2022 Yep we are on there.

13.01.2022 Good but bad. Creatures that eat seagrass will suffer.

12.01.2022 On Sunday, close friends and family paid tribute to Geoffrey Redman. One of Geoffrey's wishes was to be able to paddle out one more time to one of his favourite spots, Scotts Point. So along with Geoffrey's sister, Denise and son, Mereki, close friends met at the Point at sunrise, and some paddled out to the reef to release an environmentally friendly wreath into the bay as a fitting tribute to their dear friend, Geoffrey. The day was highlighted by a stunning sunrise, a rain...bow and a visiting Pelican. After the paddle many of us went to the Pavilion at Suttons Beach for a coffee and a chance to tell a Geoffrey Redman story or two (so many). Rest in Peace Geoffrey. You are greatly missed and we will endeavour to keep your legacy going.

11.01.2022 Let the moon guide the way, so turtles don’t go astray #WildlifeWednesday To support turtles during their hatching season, we’ve turned off a number of stre...etlights along Woorim Beach as light pollution can disorientate them. We're fortunate to be home to a number of endangered loggerhead turtles who nest on Bribie Island each year. To help protect them: Keep off sand dunes and only use beach umbrellas well below the dunes Dispose of plastics and unwanted fishing gear responsibly Avoid shining bright lights on the beach at night during turtles nesting season If you live near the beach, please consider switching off unnecessary lights and close your curtains and blinds from 7.30pm. 01.01.2022 Here is some research news on Turtles! The sex of a sea turtle is not determined by their genetics, but instead by the temperature of the nest during embryonic development. The research conducted in the southern Great Barrier Reef at Heron Island shows promising outcomes for the Sea Turtle population. The research, part of the Turtle Cooling Project, lead by WWF Australia's Caitlin Smith and included The University of Queensland’s Dr David Booth and PhD student Melissa Staines. Together their research contributes to the idea that a single application of seawater could theoretically produce more male hatchlings in the nest. https://www.uq.edu.au//irrigation-could-help-reverse-male-

01.01.2022 October Bush Care is tomorrow morning, Sunday 4th October @ 7.30am. If you can spare a couple of hours, please come along. We meet in the carpark in Silcocks Street, Clontarf. A great opportunity for wildlife spotting. Our last session was overseen by a curious male kangaroo, our site supervisor for the morning. Have you spotted this beautiful mum and joey whose home range is along the eco path?
