25.01.2022 Redcliffe Festival of Sails - Cancelled By now, the effects of the global pandemic, the Coronavirus (COVID-19), are being felt all over the world. Unfortunately, Moreton Bay Region is no different. At Moreton Bay Region Industry & Tourism, our first priority is the health and wellbeing of not only our staff and volunteers, but of our entire tourism industry and community, who undoubtedly, are and will be hit hard by this crisis.... Our team has been closely monitoring the unfolding coronavirus situation, particularly on matters pertaining to decisions on events and large gatherings of more than 500 people, we are following the advice of Queensland Health and Australian Department of Health. Taking this advice and public safety into account, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the upcoming Redcliffe Festival of Sails celebrations at Suttons Beach, on Good Friday. All stakeholders involved with the delivery of this event, will be contacted by the MBRIT team over the coming hours. We, just like you, are extremely disappointed and saddened by the decision to cancel this much-loved community celebration, however the safety and welfare of festival guests are our critical priority and the decision was made with this at the forefront. In regards to all other upcoming events delivered by MBRIT in the foreseeable future MBRIT are working through the implications of the advice from trusted sources and will provide updates as soon as information becomes available and decisions are made. To all of our stakeholders involved with the delivery of our events, and our event patrons, we thank you for your unwavering support and patience as we navigate through this difficult time. 01.01.2022 Festival of Sails Still cancelled Like the rest of Queensland, we’re thrilled that restrictions have now been lifted in time for the Easter long-weekend. Unfortunately, given the timing of the announcement, we have no choice but to continue with our cancellation. ... To make this event possible, our logistics teams and vendors start setting-up from Tuesday and Wednesday to have the (huge) event site ready for Good Friday morning. With the news only received this morning, and restrictions lifted at midday, this means that the event cannot be ready in time. Furthermore, with a high volume of close contact tracing points pinpointed in the immediate local area, Event organisers feel it would not be in the best interest of the community to run a large category 3 Festival at this time. We, like you, are extremely disappointed with this outcome, however we are excited that a number of smaller events are able to still take place in the Moreton Bay Region, including the Redcliffe Markets on Good Friday and Sunday at Redcliffe Parade, Redcliffe.
