All this month, we have been focussing... along with The Salvation Army International Social Justice Commission (ISJC) and Salv Army Women on the new Fight For Freedom strategy for an end modern slavery and human trafficking, and how we all have a part to play in the fight. Now retired, Anne is a Salvation Army officer who spent almost a decade of her acti...ve service fighting for freedom by co-ordinating responses, educating others and raising awareness throughout the territory. Major Anne shares, 'I am the daughter of Salvation Army officers and grew up in men’s hostels and in a home for teenage boys. Seeing the Gospel lived out in very practical ways by my parents and seeing this Good News transforming the lives of those around me led me to dedicate my life to God as an officer. 'Having served as a corps officer and on training colleges for 30 years, in my final nine years before retirement I headed up the anti-trafficking and modern slavery department for The Salvation Army United Kingdom with the Republic of Ireland. 'People have a perception of slavery being a thing of the past and yet we now know that it is a present-day scourge. Children, women and men are trapped and traded all over the world and unless we see it and believe it, we will never stop it. 'Being controlled by traffickers can rob people of their identity, their personality, and their self-worth as they become what the traffickers want them to be. Wer...e calling on sewers and cloth mask makers to make a very real difference in the lives of those in need. The Salvation Army in Victoria is taking donations of homemade cloth masks to distribute to those who may not have access to them.
