12.05.2022 This Sunday, our mighty Nippers take on the President's Challenge. The President's Challenge is an annual tradition that sees selected Nippers from our U10s-U14s paddle 2.5 km from Scotts Point to Suttons Beach. The rest of our Nippers build obstacles to slow down our President who will be walking along the beachfront trying to beat the board paddlers to the finish line. All participants in the President’s Challenge will be awarded 10 bonus points to be added to their total ...Age Championship score. Last year, our President outwitted our Nippers when he got the U8s to pull out buckets of lollies to distract them - what tricks will he have for them this year?

25.01.2022 Congratulations to our very own Randy Marcon who was one of 60 surf lifesavers from across Australia to be awarded the National Medal for 15-years of service to Surf Life Saving. Established in 1975 as a military recognition award, the National Medal has since branched out into government and voluntary organisations and is now Australia’s most awarded civil medal. The National Medal is awarded to individuals on behalf of the Governor-General of Australia, His Excellency Gener...al the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and recognises long and diligent service in organisations that are dedicated to protecting life and property at a degree of risk to their members. National Medals are awarded to those individuals who risk their lives or safety to protect or assist the community in enforcement of the law or in times of emergency or natural disaster. As a volunteer emergency and safety service, Surf Life Saving has over 181,000 members with over 44,000 patrolling members who dedicate 1.4 million volunteer hours each season on patrol. Surf Life Saving Australia volunteers with a minimum of 30 patrolling hours over a minimum period of 15 seasons, since September 18, 1986 are eligible for the National Medal. Thank you, Randy! Legend.

24.01.2022 Help raise funds for much needed equipment for our volunteer lifesavers and nippers! Unlike many surf life saving clubs who require their members to purchase their own equipment such as nipper boards, Redcliffe Peninsula SLSC provides equipment to our members at no extra cost to your annual membership. Our volunteer lifesaver teams also need a range of equipment, such as IRBs, ATVs, trailers, radios, etc. to perform their role patrolling the beach. All this equipment does not... come cheap! That's why we're asking for your support by purchasing tickets in our Christmas raffle! For only $20 per ticket, you could WIN a Thermomix TM6 valued at $2,269. There are only 350 tickets available so get in quick! To buy your tickets, go to https://www.rafflelink.com.au/redcliffeslsc2020

23.01.2022 These legends, Deb and Megan, would love some extra hands to help serve customers, any time from 9:30am - 12:30pm tomorrow - even if it's for half an hour during or after nippers. You will be helping to do one of the most important jobs in our club. The canteen is the club's only source of regular income with 100% of profits invested in the club. Deb and Megan VOLUNTEER their time to prepare the food, and run the canteen every Sunday, so PLEASE SUPPORT THESE LEGENDS!... And, of course, please make sure you see Deb and Megan to purchase your food and drinks, and support our club. Homemade Thai Spring Rolls are the special treat this week! #WeAreRedcliffeSLSC

07.01.2022 Linton Passmore’s story highlights the many exciting opportunities and experiences you will enjoy as a volunteer surf lifesaver. When his children left home, Linton joined Redcliffe Surf Life Saving Club to volunteer his time on weekends. He soon realised there was so much more to being a lifesaver. During my 14 years as a lifesaver, I’ve experienced some exciting weekends in Lifesaver 45/46 Helicopters, Jet Boats, Waverunner Jet Rescue, Emergency Response Group, IRB racing..., as a Duty Officer, and on beach patrols up and down the Queensland coast. I was recently employed by Surf Life Saving Queensland to fly drone patrols along the Queensland coast. How cool is that!! This is why I enjoy being a lifesaver, there are opportunities awaiting anyone who can volunteer their time. I’ve also enjoyed volunteering in various roles as a First Aid Officer, IRB Officer, Radio Officer, and Special Events Coordinator. As a Patrol Captain, I am responsible for the safe management of the beach and its surrounds, our lifesavers and all the equipment. With SLSQ Search and Rescue, Operations Support, First Aid qualifications I am confident of managing any incident as a first responder. I have developed skills that are used in the workplace including developing working relationships, managing stress, managing people, and self-discipline. You can take surf lifesaving in any direction you want, achieve personal goals, improve your fitness, develop skills, get qualifications for free. All it takes is your time and commitment at little or no cost to you. I have also watched many nippers develop their skills and become valuable members with careers in medicine, management, paramedics and armed forces. Now, why wouldn't you join Redcliffe Surf Life Saving Club to meet new friends, who have a common interest in the beach and share a generous community spirit, and wear the respected red and yellow cap with pride. Linton Passmore To become a fully qualified surf lifesaver on beach patrol, you must be 15 years old, and be able to complete a 400m pool swim in less than 9 minutes, to be eligible to complete the Bronze Medallion course. The Bronze Medallion is considered the pinnacle of Surf Life Saving patrolling awards. As a Bronze Medallion holder you will have the required skills and knowledge relating to surf awareness, rescue techniques, radio communication, CPR and first aid. To find out more or register your interest, email our Training Officer, Nathan Burkitt, at [email protected]. #surflifesaving #redandyellow #thisislifesaving #WeAreRedcliffe

05.01.2022 Brian Roselt proves it’s never too late to become a surf lifesaver. Since he turned 40, Brian was looking to give back to his community. A keen swimmer and surfer, at the age of 52 he found the missing key surf lifesaving. Five years later, Brian is now a Redcliffe SLSC Patrol Captain, patrolling the coastline from Suttons Beach to Scotts Point every third Saturday afternoon of the patrol season.... For me, what is most rewarding about surf lifesaving is that, in an emergency, I now have the ability to do something, rather than nothing. As a team, if someone has a misfortune on the beach, we can patch that person up or provide lifesaving support to get them back to their family. There is nothing more noble than that. It’s also the close-knit friendships I’ve developed with patrolling members, members of the public, and our nippers and their parents. The regulars from Suttons Beach always love a chat. And, to learn that the iconic red and yellow we wear with pride was flown at the battle of Gallipoli by the allies to show friend from foe, that makes my red and yellow quarter cap or noddy cap, which was given to me when I achieved my Bronze Medallion, my most prized award. If you would like to wear the iconic red and yellow, the Bronze Medallion is considered the pinnacle of Surf Life Saving patrolling awards. As a Bronze Medallion holder you will have the required skills and knowledge relating to surf awareness, rescue techniques, radio communication, CPR and first aid. Our next Bronze Medallion course starts soon so get in quick! You need to be 15 years old, and able to complete a 400m pool swim in less than 9 minutes, to do the Bronze Medallion course. To find out more or register your interest, email our Training Officer, Nathan Burkitt, at [email protected]. If you want to give back to your community, make great friendships, make a difference in someone else's life, surf lifesaving is a great opportunity to do so. - Brian Roselt. 02.01.2022 Our lifesavers get to meet some amazing people while on patrol. Yesterday, that amazing person was 8 year old Azalea who is raising money for the homeless by selling her lemonade. You're a legend, Azalea! @azaleaslemonadeforthehomeless
