23.01.2022 Due to the extreme forecast temperature for this coming Sunday, the State Men's Over 60's semi-finals were played tonight at Red Cliffs instead. Ken Yeowart and Ron Boyd played Chris Mitchell and Wayne Gardner in the first game that was close all the way. The scoreboard was usually only showing a difference of 1 until the last couple of ends, where team Workers picked up a couple of good scores to win 18-14. The second final saw the local team of Maurie Press Jnr and Fred Giu...gno up against the Mildura combination of Bob Deacon and Rob Hanns. The end scoreline didn't quite reflect the quality of the game, with shot bowl changing so often during each end. Team Red Cliffs managed to hold on to a hard earned lead they made early to win 20-11. A good crowd saw 2 great games, and hopefully they will see an even better game in the final on Thursday night 6.30pm again at Red Cliffs. Come along and support the guys.

23.01.2022 The 100-up final was played this morning in pleasant conditions between Ian Bliss and Michael Clifford on rink 5 of A-green. Ian started out well early and was able to get a handy lead in the first 3rd of the game with Michael finding the right line but not the weight, but when he finally swapped sides going away from the shed he found both, and started to make some inroads to Ian's lead. Michael was able to pick up two scores of 10 in a row about half way through which got ...him back in the lead, and he never relinquished it after that, managing to get the win 102-82. Well done to both players for making the final and congratulations to Michael for the win.

22.01.2022 Does anyone recognise this garden now after the TLC it got during the lockdown 6 months ago?

22.01.2022 Guess what's getting ready to flower again already? Must be because of the great pruning job Jimmy Johns and his crew did a couple of months ago.

14.01.2022 Steve received a print sample of the new shirt design and he has put it up in the clubroom on show. The new shirt is BA approved. Great job Steve, it looks awesome.

14.01.2022 The great results from the working bee to spread the mulch that was donated to us by Mildura Garden Supplies last Sunday morning.

14.01.2022 On my walk yesterday morning, I found 2 ladies cleaning up our rose bushes. I told them that the best way to do it was with a chainsaw and take it back to ground level. Fortunately they didn't listen to the sage advice of a "non-gardening guru" and did a great job getting the roses ready for the next lot of buds to flower, hopefully in time for our Australia day event next Tuesday. ... Great job Margaret and Brenda...

12.01.2022 A very pleasant surprise... As we get back to playing bowls again after the lockdown, one of the pleasent things to see is so many members catching up. It's easy to say that we will stay in contact, but in practice we don't often do unless we run into someone in our daily travels. The lockdown has made it even worse, especially for the older members.... Which is why it was so great to see the smile of Ron Doering around the club today during social bowls. As some of you may know, Ron had a few health issues before the lockdown started and he wasn't able to do much bowling, so we didn't see much of him around the club. Then with the lockdown and winter coming along, he didn't venture far away from his house. Which is why it was a very pleasent surprise to see him come along to watch social bowls today and catch up with a lot of friends. I sat and talked with him for quite a while, finding out what he had been up to and learning how he is glad the cold weather has mostly gone, and when it warms up a bit more he plans to be putting his name back down for social bowls. Oh, and one other thing I learned; he hates face masks. "I hope we don't have to wear them when summers here" he said.

08.01.2022 How an innocent sausage sizzle at a bowling club led to one man banking $1MILLION in compensation after a VERY painful incident with 'flaming fat' Kraig Anthony Dann severely burnt his fingers while cooking a BBQ in 2015 Incident was at Tasmania's Port Sorell Bowls Club at a barefoot bowls evening Dann, a club volunteer, was recently awarded over $1million in damages. A man has been awarded more than $1million in damages after severely burning his hand in a BBQ mishap a...t a bowling club. Kraig Anthony Dann was asked to cook a 'large quantity' of sausages at Tasmania's Port Sorell Bowls Club during a barefoot bowls evening in November 2015. When a ceramic mug collecting dripping fat caught alight underneath the barbecue, he instinctively removed it to stop the fire spreading. The mug spilt on his right hand, leaving Dann in agony with partial-thickness burns to several of his fingers. In a judgment published on Friday, Supreme Court Justice Helen Wood found the Port Sorell Bowls Club breached its duty of care and the mug collection 'method' was 'flawed.' Since the accident, Dann has been unable to work as a tradesman and is said to be suffering severe depression and anxiety. Justice Wood also found the club failed to provide a suitable fat-collection container and didn't ensure it was in a safe position and empty. They also didn't provide adequate instructions to volunteers using the barbecue, proper cooking gear, such as mitts, or tell Dann where fire extinguishers were located, she said. Ms Wood added the mug collection method was 'common knowledge' among regular barbecue operators - but Dann was not informed about the unusual practice. 'The fat collection set up was not what would be anticipated by anyone with a general familiarity of gas barbecues,' she said. 'It was counter intuitive ... in close proximity to the burners on a tray with two winged corners.' Justice Wood awarded Dann a total of $1,074,880 in damages, mainly to cover future and past loss of earnings. See more

03.01.2022 If you need to wear Bowls Australia approved clothing in bowls competitions, where are all the Bowls Australia approved masks? I haven't seen any one with a mask that has a BA logo on it yet...

01.01.2022 Congratulations to our Ladies team of Lorraine, Marg, June and Rozanne on getting the runners-up in the BSD state Four's event.

01.01.2022 Social bowls started today after lockdown restrictions were eased during the week. A great decision by this week's rostered match committee to play Sunday instead of in the rain on Saturday saw 24 bowlers take advantage of the much nicer weather conditions for our first social game in nearly 7 weeks.

01.01.2022 Must be plenty of jobs for bottle washers currently, judging by the huge amount of Bottlebrush flowers out at the moment.
