20.01.2022 Even with the windows left down, dogs are at risk of dying when they are left inside cars on hot days, where temperatures can climb above 50 degrees in just 6 m...inutes. Last year I raised this issue in Parliament, shortly after it became illegal to leave a dog in a car on a hot day. Unfortunately, it still happens. 6 minutes is exceptionally fast, by the time you notice that a dog is trapped, it could be too late. Use your best judgement on this one. Call the police. If the dog appears distressed, don’t hesitate to do the right thing. And a reminder, animals left at home without adequate shade and water during the day are also at risk. Never walk your dog in extreme heat and advise those you see doing so of the risks. If it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for them.

14.01.2022 Over the past month or so, I have been seeing "Covid" calories creeping onto pets. Now that many of us are home during the day, our smart pets are taking the mi...ckey when it comes to pretending they haven't been fed! A good way to keep on top of this is to measure their full daily allowance into one serving container in the morning so everyone knows the score and feed their portions from there. Once the container is empty, thats it! Be tough! Don't "kill them with kindness"! See more

08.01.2022 This is one of the cutest friendships I’ve ever seen

07.01.2022 Friday’s pack rushed off the bus and straight into the fun! Starting with frisbee warm ups, lure coursing and big ball time! We trialled a ginormous horse ball ...today to see if it would last longer. Aunty Sam had high hopes. It cost a mint ... but it didn’t last. We’ll see if we can repair this one and try it out again! The afternoon at the farm is really a lot of fun. We move up to the house yard and share in ‘Pizza Friday’ together. The dogs love a pizza crust with Uncle Luke. It’s then a zip around the block on the Pee Wee and an exhilarating sesh in the pool! And then we head to the ‘locker room’, turn the heater on and relax in a hot bath. Perfect end to the day, the week. Happy weekending everyone!

01.01.2022 As many of you will know, I have supported the government in making difficult but important evidence-based decisions, formulated on expert medical advice. If a ...few more weeks in stage 4 is necessary to stop the spread of coronavirus - then that's what needs to be done. Just because I support the government’s plan in principle, doesn’t mean there aren’t areas that need tweaking, or where I disagree in detail. When these restrictions first came into place, I wrote to the government with concern that dog grooming was deemed non-essential. Now that the government has extended restrictions, I have contacted them again today to say dog grooming must be reclassified for welfare. This new length of time will be far too long for many animals. For many breeds of dogs, and even cats, grooming is vital for animal welfare reasons. Dogs that go without regular grooming can end up with painful matting, skin irritation and overgrown nails, making it difficult to walk. Just like you can leave your home to go to the vet you should be able to leave your home to go to the groomer no matter where in Victoria you live. With more Victorians taking on a companion animal than ever before, it is vital that the government ensures they can safely get the care they deserve.
