22.01.2022 Who is ready? Central WA will have hot dry and windy coditions causing Severe to Catastrophic fire dangers. As part of your emergency planning did you know schools close in Catastrphic fire danger ratings? Have you you talked about this in your family? Planning in advance will reduce the stress in an event and help you cope better. In addition there is also a Severe weather warning for the South West WA with a winter like cold front occuring in Nov. To help you prepare see redcross.org.au/prepare

20.01.2022 Always great training new volunteers and Red Cross staff in Psychological First Aid so we are ready to help communities in times of emergencies. This is a primary tool for providing psychosocial support to help people prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies and other stressful life events. Welcome to the team everyone. Lets send them some support.

17.01.2022 Our teams in Mingenew are being warmly welcomed. Many residents expressing the gratitude of visits and the need to share stories and talk and hence the value of our Psycholgical First Aid. Wonderful country to be driving around but the impact of TC Seroja is so evident. We also want to acknowledge the warm hospitality of the Everlastings Guest House in Morawa. Great to share stories around a campfire.... Shire of Mingenew

16.01.2022 What a wonderful story of hope. We hear a lot about the pandemic and bushfires but drought is still occurring and in parts of WA. Disaster recovery takes time and community connection and support is so important.

15.01.2022 Outbreaks of COVID cases across the country, changing restrictions, travel controls and closed borders is understandably causing some anxiety in the community. It is important we prioritise our wellbeing during this time. Remember to wear a mask Stay informed of the latest requirements https://www.wa.gov.au/government/covid-19-coronavirus Stay connected ... Practice self care Remember how incredibly lucky we are to live in WA.

11.01.2022 We really enjoyed presenting our Pillowcase lesson to year 3 and 4 students at Gooseberry Hill Primary School and Falls Road Primary School in Lesmurdie. Students learned how to stay calm through a deep breathing exercise and how to pack their emergency evacuation kit. They shared what was precious to them and some of the items are so moving. Have you discussed this with your children? You may be surprised.

09.01.2022 We love our volunteers. They are special people. They don't tend to like attention so most avoid the camera but here are a couple who were working hard calling residents to assess emergency preparedness levels so we can tailor our messaging to ensure it is most effective for our Perth Hills Preparedness Project. Thank you

08.01.2022 Thanks Mt Helena Voluntary Bush Fire Brigade for having us along at the Mt Helena Community Sundowner. A lovely community event promoting connectedness. It was great chatting to locals on getting prepared for emergencies as part of our Perth Hills Preparedness project and working with hills volunteer brigades.

07.01.2022 Thanks to the wonderful staff at the City of Perth. We conducted Psychological First Aid training for staff who will help in the event of a emergency in the City. PFA is the recommended first level of psychosocial support to promote natural recovery after disasters. We just had to capture that gorgeous view as a little nicer than our usual! How beautiful is Perth?

06.01.2022 What great year 3 students at Helena College. Here they are learning all about emergencies and the importance of managing stress and staying calm. Their emergency kit bags - their pillowcases look fantastic.

05.01.2022 It's just as important to prepare emotionally as it is practically for emergencies. Have you?

04.01.2022 Today is National Trauma Teddy Day This week Trauma Teddy, a Red Cross icon of comfort and kindness, turns 30. More than 600 volunteer knitters, in 75 knitting groups nationally, lovingly craft 50,000 Trauma Teddies each year. They've dedicated a mind-blowing 7.5 million volunteer knitting hours over the last 30 years! Wow. Over 1 million children have cuddled a colourful, comforting Trauma Teddy since volunteer knitters first started hand-crafting the Teddies in 1990. The...y not only provide comfort to children but equally to adults including those impacted by disaster and emergency services workers. We salute our volunteers who generously donate their time, and to acknowledge children, young and old, who have received the bears across the years. If you have a story or picture about a teddy you have received in how it helped you we would love you to share in the comments for our volunteers.

01.01.2022 What a week. Many were excited at our WA border opening while others were anxious and then the outbreak in SA and subsequent lockdown. This is not only stressful for people in SA and we send our but also potentially triggering for the rest of the country and disappointing for those wishing to reconnect with loved ones. You might not be in it, but could be feeling concern, disappointment, anxiety and anger. That’s normal. It's so important to take some steps to take care of yourself. Here are some great tips
