20.01.2022 Calling all bloody legends - roll up your sleeves before the month is out!

20.01.2022 Today marks 75 years since the end of World War Two, which saw more than 575,000 Australians serve overseas - sadly 39,429 of which never made it home. The Australian Red Cross would organise to send care packages to units fighting on the front line. This recipe for Soldiers Cake was first published in Australia Women’s Weekly in June 1942 and was popular to send to the men serving overseas, because it was yummy, simple to mail in a tin and stayed in good condition until it a...rrived weeks, or even months, later. Join us in preparing this recipe - taking the time to consider the history of this cake, and the small pleasures it would have provided when it arrived in its tin on the frontline. We were then, and we are today, people helping people. Check out the 1942 recipe for Soldiers Cake at www.cookingwithnanaling.com/soldiers-cake/

09.01.2022 Today is International Day of Peace The UN General Assembly declared a day dedicated to the preservation of the principles of peace by maintaining 24 hours of non-violence and ceasefire. This year, it was easier than ever as the global focus has shifted to the fight against COVID-19. The pandemic has thrown our world into chaos and clearly persuaded us that what is going on in one part of the globe is going to influence lives elsewhere. ... This year’s theme is "Shaping Solidarity Together." Mark the day by encouraging compassion, solidarity and hope in the face of the pandemic

03.01.2022 Throwback Thursday! The Meals on Wheels service started as an independent initiative by one woman in South Melbourne, in 1952. When her workload grew too large, Red Cross took over responsibility for the project. Red Cross continues to operate Meals on Wheels in some parts of Australia. The WA Soup Patrol now serves meals to WA's vulnerable 7 days a week. If you are interested in volunteering please get in touch today! Head to www.redcross.org.au/volunteer to check out the current opportunities!
