11.01.2022 AMEN If you asked 100 people what the most common word spoken in churches is, a healthy portion of them would say ‘amen.’ We say the word ‘amen’ at the conclu...sion of our prayers. Many of us have been saying this word since we were youngsters. Did you know that the word has origins found in the Aramaic language which was then picked up by the Hebrew language? It was then transferred to the Greek language and then on to English. Did you know that the first instance of the word ‘amen’ appears in Numbers 5: 22? Did you know that when you say ‘amen’ you are saying, ‘let it be’ or ‘so be it?’ Did you know that there are 77 ‘amens’ in the four gospels? Did you know that there is such a thing as a double amen? (see Psalms 41:13, 72:19 and 89:52) The ‘double amen’ was used in order to confirm the words spoken and to invoke the fulfillment of them. May we all continue to offer up prayers to God and may we all be blessed in your journeys of faith. Amen! See more
