25.01.2022 It's true that many people who sleep well don't need to think about it and as a result focusing on it could invite problematic sleep habits. However there are proven ways that poor sleepers can improve their sleep quality with or without additional equipment. It's horses for courses!
25.01.2022 As we all get to grips with the reality of physical distancing, here's a great article with practical advice for people self-isolating with family or friends. Following these 12 Tips will help you emerge post-distancing with stronger relationships, rather than weakened. Enjoy!
25.01.2022 As World Sleep Day is just around the corner (13th March 2020), I have set aside some time to present a FREE webinar on common questions I get asked about sleep. The topics include - How sleep impacts our physical and mental wellbeing - What does a healthy night's sleep look like? - How to better leverage your natural energy cycle - Why sleep hygiene may not be enough for you to fall asleep and stay asleep. ... For those who submit sleep questions beforehand, I'll also weave the answers into the presentation. Book your set here: https://lnkd.in/f9YxDuf
25.01.2022 Sleep is an undervalued activity. According to a study conducted by the Sleep Health Foundation, up to 45% of Australian adults are not sleeping enough to prevent cognitive impairment, errors at work, and falling asleep on the job, resulting in significant productivity losses. If you fall into the 45% group by regularly sleeping less than 7hrs a night you may want to take a look at it. Less than 7hrs sleep means you are inviting significant health impacts later on. Sleep is... your first line of defence to protecting your physical health and mental health. If you're not convinced, take a look at my latest blog post (link in the bio). . . . . . . . #sleepbetter #sleepbetterlivebetter #sleepwell #sleephygiene #insomniaproblems #insomniasucks #insomniamagazine See more
25.01.2022 Today is the 13th World Sleep Day on the 13th March! Sounds crazy that wed feel the need to highlight what many take for granted. . Sadly, for nearly 45% of adults a restful nights sleep is considered a luxury, whether its because they do not prioritise it, arent able to sleep well or dont feel they need it or a combo thereof. . Thankfully the sleep research is growing and we are learning more about how to support a better nights sleep naturally.... . I recorded my webinar earlier today which covers the following topics; How sleep impacts our physical and mental wellbeing What does a healthy night's sleep look like? How to better leverage your natural energy cycle Why sleep hygiene may not be enough for you to fall asleep and stay asleep Click on the link in my bio if youd like to watch it and feel free to put your feedback or sleep questions in the comments below. #sydneysleeptherapist #worldsleepday #worldsleepday2020 #sleeptraining #sleepbetter #sydneycounsellor #bettersleep #betterlife #betterplanet #sleepbetter #sleepisnotaluxury #sleepismedicine #sleepnaturally #sleepbetternaturally #sleepwebinar #wellbeing #selfcarefirst #healthysleep #energymanagement #energycycle #martinebarclay
25.01.2022 Sometimes, I wonder what it would be like if I had given up on trying to create a job and a lifestyle I love all those years ago. It has been a lifelong journey that started out with me following my nose, until I got here! Im grateful for the permission I gave myself to never stop learning or exploring. It has also taken consistent effort and patience to allow things to emerge and grow. On this #worldsoliday, what are you going to allow to grow inside of you that may also be... a source of joy in years to come? 24.01.2022 Whats on the agenda for today? . For me, its: following up on a networking project with a colleague; drafting new text for my website update, and working with clients online; followed by a walk with my dog to celebrate getting through another productive COVID-19 day. I love days when I can check-off at lest 3 to-dos! . What are you working on?... . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #keepingbusy #dailyroutine #websiteupdate #collaborationovercompetition
24.01.2022 I cant say I love EVERYthing about my job, and if Im being honest there are some days I wish that all the hard work, late nights, and sacrifices that come with being my own boss would disappear! . But if I could pick the top three favourite things I love about working with my clients, Id pick their courage to change, willingness to learn, and their perseverance to uncover who they are meant to be in the world. . 23.01.2022 So many people I come across are sad that they missed out on the ‘sleep genes’. While genetics do play a part, so much more is dependant on habits and what you train yourself to do to improve your sleep experience. If your concerned about how you’re sleeping, get in touch today via the link in the bio. Sleep doesn’t have to feel like a luxury but a natural activity that takes place every night. #sleepbetter #sleepwell #sleeprituals #sleepritual #sleepmatters #sleepanxiety #sleepanxietyisreal #sydneycounsellor

20.01.2022 Since I started working from home this week and started 'physical distancing' I have noticed how much I am snacking. Turns out I'm not alone! Research shows that 90% of adults snack at least once a day if not more. If you're finding yourself snacking more try to pair a complex carbohydrate with a lean protein and healthy fat. And don't forget the fibre! Ideally you need to choose snacks that are low in sugar and salt. Fruits and vegetables, low-fat cheeses or nuts or yogurt are great snacks to keep you going.
20.01.2022 Between organising the family activities for the holidays, networking at Christmas events and working with clients, its not terribly surprising I find myself a little drained around the holidays. . To create little moments of relief in the midst of it all, I love to stop by my favourite coffee shop, hear how the team behind the counter are going and pick up a long black takeaway. 18.01.2022 In between work activities I took my daughter to the orthodontist and sitting on their mantle was this quote You dont have to be crazy to work here, well teach you. . It reminded me of my first leadership coaching assignment when I started my coaching practice nearly six years ago. At the end of working with my client, we reflected on his journey and his learnings from the coaching we did together. . After rattling off a few in quick succession he paused, cheekily smiled ...and said, Ive realised we all need a little bit of crazy and Ive found mine! . He was of course referring to how he preferred to work. He had tried initially to mimic his peers and found it exhausting. Embracing his own work ethic helped him to excel. What he was most excited about was that hed found his sense of fun and was able to express it at last! . Whats your crazy that youre trying to avoid? Perhaps embracing it will prove more useful. . . . . . . . . . . . . . #leadershipdevelopment #leadershipquotes #leadershipcoaching #leadershipcoach #leadershipcoachsydney #confidenceiskey #confidencecoach #selfpsychology #careercoaching #personalgrowthjourney #personalgrowthanddevelopment #personalgrowthcoach #belonging #breakthroughthoughts See more
18.01.2022 Who else out there is finding it hard to lock-in a routine? . Ill have to say, Ive had a love/hate relationship with routines for years. However since working for myself, I have come to appreciate their value and how they keep me on-track and allow me more energy to focus on what matters most to me. . Since the global changes, I have struggled to create a routine that I can stick to because things seem so fluid. This morning as I was putting together a webinar to present, a...nd I came across the Stages of Change. It brought a smile to my face. I quickly realised I had been sprinting through the changes at least 4 or 5 times each day! No wonder I feel like I do! . So today, the must-do list includes injecting more self-compassion into my day and the sometime later list contains finish building the sleep webinar. . 18.01.2022 Flip your phone, friend! Seeing as everyones lives are turned upside down right now, heres a sneak peek into what my days look like during the lockdown. I wake up at 7.15am to the sound of my husband shaving, and I immediately reach for my phone and check my messages, scrolling through the news to see if Ive missed anything overnight from friends and family, before getting up and getting ready for the day. 16.01.2022 Since COVID-19 has gripped the world, we have seen increased hoarding behaviours and we really shouldn't be so surprised. If you have started hoarding items, know that you are having a normal/adaptive response to an anticipated shortage. And it may surprise you to hear, you may continue to hoard after COVID-19 is no longer a pandemic. The unexplained hoarding of particular items may be as a result of you taking cues from others rather than working out what you'll actually need. So as we 'physically distance' ourselves, take the time to consider what you actually need and build your shopping list around that. We have been assured our supermarkets will continue to be stocked, albeit we may need to be flexible about our preferred brands, so there is no need to hoard even though the drive to do is it there. Remember to breathe...

14.01.2022 Theres one day left of 2019 and Im feeling strangely calm and excited because I know 2019 was a foundational year for my business, and I feel mostly on track! . In the past 12 months, I started being intentional about how I spent my time which also meant being selective about the work I took on, which was pretty hard to stick to in the beginning! . 14.01.2022 Much like pulling all sorts of ingredients together to bake a cake, I regularly sit back and reflect on what knowledge my clients would benefit from knowing more about. . 13.01.2022 Are there any other Coca Cola fans out there? For me, when I need a little pick me up because Im tired or if my tummy feels a bit blaah, I find a couple of sips of Coca Cola is the PERFECT remedy. Pair that with a couple of minutes of mindfulness and then Im ready to go again. I was surprised to learn from my calendar that today marks the day that Coca-Cola was first sold in bottles. They started selling it in bottles in 1894 and before that people bought it in a glas...s! Now while I enjoy a cold glass of Coke every now and again, it does have more that 5g per 100ml of sugar in it (10.5g to be exact) so it is a drink to be enjoyed sparingly. 09.01.2022 Last week felt surreal, I never imagined it would come to this. Now a week in, I realise we need to embrace this new way of life with physical distancing, barely leaving the house and working from home as the norm. . Initially I struggled with it all. 06.01.2022 If you have found yourself changing your diet in the hope of losing weight or centimetres you may want to combine it with a 'sleep diet'. While the results relate specifically to women, I'd argue they relate to men as well. The results of the study showed women with worse overall sleep quality consume more of the added sugars associated with obesity and diabetes. Those who take longer to fall asleep have a higher caloric intake and eat more food by weight and less unsaturated fats. Something to think about!
06.01.2022 You can never be too kind or have too many friends. For me, the answer is to give out more of what you would like to receive.
