22.01.2022 What a fantastic Award! The experience Collectors are awarding autistic individuals or organisations (who support or are within the Moreton Bay Region) who are Inspriational, display personal excellence or who have a considerable impact on the autism community. This is an excellent set of awards, and here at Redefini, we encourage everyone to have a think about and nominate those individuals with autism who you believe fulfill the criteria, and deserving of the recognition. https://www.theexperiencecollectorsqldasd.com/awards

17.01.2022 As we are progressively returning back to school, some of our wonderful young clients have needed some gentle support to remind them of how to play with their friends. We've been asked to put this resource together to help support their learning and provide those subtle play skill reminders. So in true redefini spirit we thought we would share, because if it helps just one person its worth it. Have a great day everyone and enjoy playtime!

17.01.2022 With the pressures ahead of going back to work and school, some are finding that they are overwhelmed and find it difficult to express their thoughts and needs verbally. Keep in mind that many of us will SHOW you how we are feeling, with our behaviours before we TELL you, if expression is difficult

14.01.2022 This health crisis has many flow-on effects. Many of our young people and teens are realising that they are unable to go to school and be with their friends at least for the next 5-weeks in QLD. Providing them with a safe and uninterrupted space may help them express their feelings instead of bottling them up.

13.01.2022 Covid has heightened anxiety in most of us. Some of us overfunction and some of us underfunction. When we see these behaviours in others take a moment to wonder if they may be anxious and may simply need some kindness, help and support. Which one are you?

05.01.2022 A list of some encouraging phrases for our children as we navigate being isolated together ....sometimes it's not what you say but how you say it.

04.01.2022 So today is the day for Queenslanders----Back to School--- YIKES! Many parents Mainstream school-age children have shared that they are puzzled, confused and worried about how they are going to manage. And many of you have told us that you don't feel that you have the skills or aren't up to the challenge of it. So here are some tips to help you through the first day 1. Today if you can log onto the school and log them as attending--Job done! you have achieved!... 2. Take the pressure off! Keep in mind we are here to supervise their education, not teach it. If you can teach that's great but if you feel challenged by it that's absolutely ok. Our teaching workforce is ready to teach, guide and help you. 3. Keep in mind this is new for teachers too, this a new system of learning for all of us 4. Does your child have ASD/ADHD or a disability? Try your best to copy the school environment and routine as much as you can. Our handy tips are: 1. Set up a designated place in the house, just for education. If that is the dining table, let them design their own school time placemat to use as a visual reminder that this is where school is completed. 2. Let them get dressed in their uniform. The feel, touch and look of the school uniform can help to provide another stimulatory reminder that it is time for school. 3. Let them watch you pack their normal school lunch, and use their school water bottles and hats. Often, families eat differently from school days or workdays and the weekend, so this can be another reminder that it is a school day. 4. Try to follow your school timeslots as much as possible. For example if your usual school bell goes at 9-am.....Set your phone or Ipad to ring a school bell at 9-am. There are many programs you can use to set up alarms throughout the day as a reminder to start and stop activities. 5. And of course, try to use the Redefini Activity Menu packs to help guide the process. For all our clients please touch base if you haven't received yours yet. 6. And finally, BREATHE! As always tomorrow is a new day. Try to complete some mindfulness and grounding activities for yourself and the children. HAVE AN AWESOME DAY EVERYONE!

03.01.2022 I hope this is helpful for anyone with students that are going through ATAR that are feeling anxious. Here are some tips for how we can support our teenagers. https://redefini.com/blog/anxious-atars

02.01.2022 An excellent post from Down Syndrome Australia

01.01.2022 Here is a great resource on teaching a Growth Mindset for our young people and adults and parents to. A couple of ideas on how to use this resource. 1. Print out onto label paper as use as badges to recognise achievements. Children could create a poster for set aside a page in their workbook and aim to collect all 15 :). 2. Cut up and stick onto cards for children to collect, share, display, use as flashcards. Each day, or each week, children could choose the statement they think best suits them. Explore why they chose a particular statement. 3. Display the complete poster. Discuss with the children examples of each statement. Children can point out which statement(s) apply to them. Encourage the children to use these statements in their everyday discussions and written work.
