25.01.2022 Our AGM is happening tomorrow (1/10) at 7:30pm. REDWatch is always on the lookout for new members and people who are prepared to become involved on the Co-ord Group and in planning REDWatch activities. It is natural for people who have been involved to want to step back and do other things, which leads to us always looking for new people to become more involved in the group. REDWatch definitely needs a treasurer at this AGM. Please consider if you are in a position to become... more involved in organising REDWatch and its activities. If you would like to discuss this possibility, please contact one of the people on the Co-ord Group or email [email protected] The AGM will be held after our usual October monthly meeting at 7.30 pm. You can participate on line or in person at The Factory Community Centre. Due to Covid-19 there are restrictions on how many people can fit into The Factory. RSVP to our Secretary, Jennifer Sams on [email protected] to tell us if you are coming and need to attend at The Factory or if you can be on Zoom. Online the AGM will be on the same Zoom link used for the earlier monthly meeting on Community Development. The on-line link is: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83325131024 or you can join online by phone at 02 8015 6011 Meeting ID: 833 2513 1024 Passcode: 506503 http://ow.ly/gKFP50BDWkW
24.01.2022 Land and Housing Response to Social Sustainability Report Available Land and Housing Corporation (LAHC) has updated its Waterloo South Social Sustainability Study after REDWatch picked up that material was missing from the report. Part of the missing material was a section of a table showing LAHC’s responses to the consultant’s recommendations. This was an important table as it sets out what LAHC propose to do to deliver a Socially Sustainable redevelopment. REDWatch has post...ed this table on its website under LAHC response to the Social Sustainability Study Report recommendations (PDF 149Kb) and the updated version of the Waterloo South Social Sustainability Study can be found on the City of Sydney website under Planning proposal request: Waterloo estate (south). The Council’s website has been redesigned and all material relating to Waterloo South is now all on the same page. REDWatch encourages tenants, services and the community to have a look at this table and to consider if the LAHC responses are adequate and if they will deliver the social sustainability promised. If you missed the print edition of the September South Sydney Herald you might also be interested in my article Ministers agree to Waterloo cuts which looks at the argument to stop funding the Waterloo independent support workers against the proposals in the Social Sustainability Study. On Human Services, we understand that an appointment is being made within the Department of Planning Industry and Environment to work on the Waterloo Human Services Plan and we are awaiting the opportunity to meet with DPIE and DCJ over this work. https://www.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au//planning-proposal-req

22.01.2022 Redfern North Eveleigh Planning Online workshops Transport for NSW (TfNSW) has taken over from UrbanGrowth in planning for the Redfern Station precinct and North Eveleigh, now called Redfern North Eveleigh. TfNSW held a two day session with government, business, education and community stakeholders and it is now holding some online workshops for community members. We encourage all those along Little Eveleigh and Wilson Streets, as well as those in Pine’s Estate, to particip...ate as the people who will border the proposed redevelopment. You can register for an online workshop at https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/shaping-the-future-of-redfe Workshops are on: Wednesday 30 September 2020 5:30pm 7:30pm Thursday 1 October 2020 4:00pm 6:00pm Thursday 8 October 2020 5:30pm 7:30pm If you can’t attend, you can find out more and complete the online survey at yoursay.transport.nsw.gov.au/redfern-north-eveleigh-renewal or you can email your comments to [email protected]. TfNSW is looking to prepare a Draft Strategic vision like the Draft Strategic Vision for the Central SSP. I have been asked if we know from the two-day workshop what it is that TfNSW is proposing for North Eveleigh and how this compares with what the RWA and UrbanGrowth proposed. There has been no indication of TfNSW’s thinking. Presentations were at a very high level and TfNSW did not address how the urban design principles might be applied to, or traded off on, the North Eveleigh site. TfNSW is very much looking at each of its local activities (the Southern Concourse, the building above Platforms 11 & 12 and North Eveleigh) in isolation. If you want to refresh your memory of what has gone before, you can find historical documents on the REDWatch website under the North Eveleigh Precinct.
21.01.2022 City of Sydney to talk with agencies about Waterloo South consultation Wed September 30th 10am-12pm Agencies around Redfern and Waterloo should have received an invitation to a meeting with Council consultation staff on 30th September. If you have not seen it please contact Adam Antonelli on [email protected] for Zoom details. Council consultation staff have met with tenants involved with the WRG and they are holding this meeting to talk with agency staff. Council ...is keen to get input from agencies about how they think Council can best reach the widest range of Waterloo community members and support their involvement in the consultation over the planning controls proposed for Waterloo South. This workshop will include a discussion about these topics with Lauren Flaherty, Senior Community Engagement Coordinator and Eddie Greenaway, Social Housing Project Manager, at the City of Sydney. 14.01.2022 This paper has been put together by our Redfern Waterloo Groundswell partners REDWatch Counterpoint Community Services Inner Sydney Voice and others. It is to assist those entering the discussions and the extremely overdue development of a Waterloo Human Services Plan (HSP) and the long historic context. It sets out what Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) believe can be achieved by the development of a Waterloo Human Services Plan.... For more info please email us on [email protected] it can be downloaded from http://www.redwatch.org.au//humanserv/wloohs/201009gs/view #communitydevelopment #humanservices #socialhousing #nswpol #tenantsrights #LAHC #communitiesplus

13.01.2022 With the release of some of the Waterloo South studies, the South Sydney Herald asked two people with experience in relevant fields to write articles on the studies. The print edition of the September issue is just out but you can also see these articles on the SSH website: - Professor Peter Phibbs on Housing diversity and affordability in Waterloo - David Lilley on Delivering social outcomes in Waterloo South... The SSH also contains an article by Geoff Turnbull on the recent letter on behalf of the ministers about the de-funding of support positions in Waterloo and its implications in the light of the Social Sustainability study. This article has not yet been put on the SSH website. One significant problem with the Waterloo Social Sustainability Report is that a major table (p8-13) is incomplete. The table contains the report recommendations and Land and Housing Corporations responses to those recommendations. The table is missing the LAHC responses for Recommendations 9-16. The missing Recommendations and LAHC’s responses cover recommendations on the Public Domain p67, Community Infrastructure pp 67-68, Social Mix p78 and Community Identity and Connection p78. https://southsydneyherald.com.au/delivering-social-outcome/ https://southsydneyherald.com.au/housing-diversity-and-aff/
09.01.2022 Redfern Waterloo Alliance of Community Controlled Organisations and Allies launched the Redfern Waterloo Aboriginal Affordable Housing Campaign. The campaign calls for: 1. 10% Aboriginal Affordable Housing in all government redevelopments in the Redfern Waterloo area. 2. An increase in Aboriginal Social Housing ensuring that any community housing provider must either be Aboriginal owned and managed, or if not, work in partnership with an Aboriginal led organisation.... 3. Aboriginal Jobs and Ongoing Employment Targets for Aboriginal employment and contracts for construction and for Aboriginal employment in the provision of ongoing services in all government redevelopments in the Redfern Waterloo area. You can support this campaign by signing and promoting the Change.org Redfern Waterloo Affordable Housing Campaign Petition to Melinda Pacey, Gladys Berejiklian, Rob Stokes and Gareth Ward. You can also see the launch video on the Campaign’s Facebook. The City of Sydney Council resolved at its Council meeting on 21 September 2020, that Council support the Redfern Waterloo Aboriginal Affordable Housing Campaign. REDWatch is concerned that if Aboriginal Affordable Housing is not delivered from projects like the Waterloo Redevelopment, the Redfern Build to Rent Project and the further redevelopment of North and South Eveleigh, there may not be a long-term viable Aboriginal community in Redfern Waterloo from which the leaders and elders of the future will emerge. https://www.change.org/p/melinda-pavey-minister-for-water-p
