22.01.2022 Beach safety and snacks.

22.01.2022 Patrol Captain profile- Jake Cerniauskus I've been involved with Redhead SLSC since I was 6 years old as a nipper. I started to really enjoy not only the sport itself but the club even more once I was involved in the seniors and being able to train with club legends. I completed my SRC and Bronze medallion and was given the role of patrol captain at 18 where I completed more courses to broaden my surf knowledge. I ve been involved with the club more as a competitor and this y...ear I was given the opportunity to take the role as the swim section coordinator which has allowed me to be more involved with the competition area of the club. Jake is one of the club s legendary swimmers who has won Aussie and state medals in various swim events at both surf and pool carnivals. Jake has also represented Australia in pool rescue events. 1. What's your favourite patrolling moment? I don t have a specific one, I love when the weather is hot and sunny as it makes the patrol go quicker while on the beach. 2. Who is someone that inspires you in the club and why? Everyone that is involved in the club. Each person helps out in some way to help the club run, whether it be a nipper parent paying for fees or the president overlooking everything, if everyone didn t play their role we wouldn t have this great club. 3. Most memorable rescue? This was before lifeguards were present on a Sunday. We had a surfer with a suspected spinal injury. Who we treated with the best of our knowledge. I was was lucky I had a great patrolling team who dealt with the situation very well and thankfully the surfer was all good. 4. Favourite surf lifesaving event? Either the rescue tube rescue or the belt race as I have done pretty well in those events. 5. Favourite patrol snack to share with your fellow patrollers? The patrol chips were always good 6. Proudest Surf lifesaving moment? I have 2 that were special to me the first is Winning an Aussie gold medal in u19 rescue tube rescue, this was my first Australian gold. The other is winning gold in the open swim teams, this was the first time Redhead had won in this event. It was even better that I got to do this with a team and for the club. 7. Biggest pest in the club? Dean little ,aka yogi bear, for feeding out of everyone s eskys 8. Funniest patrol member on your team? Everyone has their moments so there isn t anyone in particular

21.01.2022 Patrol Captian Profile- Owen Evans Owen has been in the club since 12 BC and seen so many things change. Patrol Captain for most of these years and always have had the best crews. Rowed boats for the club and have also been a swimmer. Just received his 30 year long service award and was named Patrol person of the year 2019. 1.What is your favourite patrolling moment? Every patrol is a good patrol when everyone goes home safe and Sunday stubbies. 2. Who is someone that inspi...res you in the club and why? Every member that volunteers and all the old guys that put in and do things around the club. Without these people we would not have a very successful club. 3. Most memorable rescue? All rescues should be remembered as a great thing. The one that stands out the most in my mind is we had a young boy in trouble behind Shark tower rock. Myself, Sarge and Robbie Mc were involved when a member of the public thought he should go in and rescue him. I kindly thanked him and told him that we have in under control, he decided that he would go in anyway. As I had to tried to explain to this gentleman and almost physically restrain him from going in, which on a serious note was taking my concentration off the important thing, the patient. Sarge had had enough and walks around the rocks grabs the boy and bring him in. The member from the public was not happy with this so he went up to the patrol and wanted to complain and asked who to, for he wanted to rescue the boy, the patrol members then pointed to me, facial expression priceless. I guess you had to there. 4. Favourite surf lifesaving event? Sunday Stubbies, any event where you can have a drink or two with fellow members and have a laugh. 5. Favourite patrol snack to share with your fellow patrollers? Nuts and a beer at stubbies 6. Proudest Surf lifesaving moment? Every moment is a proud moment. 7. Biggest pest in the club? Far too many to say all in a good way, Mick Sullivan does come to mind though. 8. Funniest patrol member on your team? I have always had a team of jokers and all as bad as each other. See more
