08.01.2022 Wear Purple to Kindy in the last week and donate a gold coin to support Premature Babies Dear Families, This is a cause that is near and dear to many of our hearts.... One of our Kindergarten mums, Anna Copley is putting one foot in front of the other during the Brisbane Running Festival to raise money for Premature Babies. https://www.runningforprematurebabies.com//brisbane-marath Anna has asked for our support. I suggested that the children wear Purple and donate a gold coin. When: during the last week of term. Monday 25th Friday 29th. What: PURPLE SOCKS, PURPLE SHOES, PURPLE RIBBONS, PURPLE SHORTS, PURPLE T-SHIRT! PURPLE lunch box . . . How: Wear Purple anything, donate a gold coin Let’s get together and show our support as a community for this incredible cause. Please donate a gold coin towards Anna’s running effort. Running for Premature Babies A personal message from one mum to another . . . Help us give premature babies a better chance of survival In 2015 we had our first of two premi babies, Olivia and Henry Copley. Both were born at 33 Weeks. Both spent time in NICU and ECU. One of the hardest moments in my life to date was when Olivia was taken out of the birth suite, straight to NCU without me seeing or holding her. Both children did well in NICU, both children have had great outcomes. I cannot imagine what it would be like to have a child born any earlier, have a child have a poorer outcome, or have a child in NCU in a tertiary hospital away from you.

04.01.2022 We Value Drawing As a follow up to our challenge to Build with Blocks everyone was encouraged to 'have a go' at drawing their block construction. As a group we spoke about the necessity to sit down and look at their own construction; to look at the shape and size of the blocks; we discussed the straight and curved lines of the blocks... to begin looking and looking again. The children demonstrating how to be a part of a community of learners - doing their own drawing but di...scussing and creating together. Why we value and encourage drawing so highly: DRAWING AS A WAY OF CO-CONSTRUCTING MEANING . Drawing allows children to make their thinking visible and transparent to others. . Drawing allows the children to work together on common interest areas. . Drawing is a shared experience that due to its success orientation and accessibility to all assists in bind together the community of learners. . Drawing is accessible to all children and is not dependent on an individual's skill level. . Drawing is a crucial skill in the process that we scaffold throughout our curriculum related to the metacognitive process of planning, doing and reflecting. Written by Sharon (K4 Teacher)
