25.01.2022 You may have noticed a few changes at parkrun, like our extra-wide start line and a shorter run brief. These are designed to limit the time we're in close proximity to each other, to help keep everyone safe and healthy. One of the consequences of the shorter run briefs is that we cannot celebrate milestones in the way we used to (Junior 10, 50 parkruns, 100, 250 or 25 volunteers). If you're celebrating one of these auspicious occasions, please let us know ahead of time and come along to parkrun early on that day so that we can safely organise a photo to post online. As a community we love to share in these celebrations - feel free to wear your own milestone shirts to help others celebrate theirs. Stay happy and healthy until we see you again in just 3 sleeps! Cheryl - Event Director

25.01.2022 Today (Thu 10 Sep) is R U OK day. 2020 has certainly presented some change, challenge and disruption, and it's not over yet, so this year more than ever, it's important that we continue to support each other and be prepared for conversations or interactions that may not be all sunshine and unicorns. As we reinforce often, parkrun's mission is about creating happier, healthier communities. Mental wellbeing is an extremely important part of that, and while we cannot gather en-masse right now, we need to do what we can to reach out and stay connected. The site linked below has some fantastic resources - take a moment to check it out and please, if you or anyone in your circle is not feeling ok, let someone know in whatever way you can. A conversation can change a life. Cheryl | Event Director

23.01.2022 Hope everyone is staying well amidst the developing situation with the declared pandemic. The latest statement from parkrun Global was issued a short time ago. Summary is that there are 15 countries in which parkrun was suspended last Friday, and the parkrun team are continuing to engage with public health experts and leaders in other countries, including Australia, about any appropriate further action. A decision will be made by the end of Wednesday, UK time. We will share that information when it becomes available, and recommend that you 'like' parkrun Australia's facebook page. Thank you everyone for your patience and support - the health and wellbeing of our parkrun community is of utmost importance. Cheryl - Event Director

22.01.2022 Happy 3rd Birthday non-parkrun Saturday style....wheres the cake? As you all know by now, had it not been for social distancing, today we would have all gathered to celebrate Redland Bay parkruns 3rd birthday and lucky you would have gotten to see my smiling face as your RD for today. As we are unable to be together and celebrate at this time, Cheryl set the Event Team the task of sharing a little about our parkrun journey. ... My story started 12th August 2017, Redland Bay event #10. I was dragged along to keep Nicola company. While walking two laps of the oval, I wondered to myself, why would anyone get out of bed so early on a cold Saturday morning to go for a walk? Well, one week turned into two and before long as we got to know the same familiar faces, we learnt Saturdays just wouldnt be the same without the early start, good laughs and a run with friends. Then came October 2018, I asked Cheryl if she needed some assistance and thereby volunteering myself as a future RD. Im not sure what she was thinking, or if she knew what she was getting herself in for, but Cheryl said yes and the rest is history... Now with over 100 runs under my belt, and more than 25 volunteer occasions, youd think Id enjoy public speaking a little more!? The photo I have chosen highlights what parkrun means, to not just me but also my beautiful crazy family that as you would all know, are always there in the background (behind every good RD); or in Haydens case, under each RDs feet as he loves helping being the Assistant RD or Boss each week. When I started parkrun, I thought all runners were crazy, and I still do. Remember, I still dont call myself a runner, despite countless events and a marathon in my legs. But Cheryl planted a seed that grew, and this community naturally watered, without ever knowing and hence the inception of the Redland Bay Homers. A little group, who have become like a family.... with love, support and encouragement. A mighty fine group Im proud to say I am a part of. While we all enjoy visiting other parkrun events and the hospitality of other communities, its safe to say home is where the heart is and we love it local. Be Strong. Be Safe. See you all soon. 22.01.2022 Thank you to the 48 brave souls and 9 fabulous volunteers who joined us for parkrun #148 at Redland Bay today. A bit soggy but a lovely high tide and cooler conditions made for 8 PBs! 21.01.2022 It feels strange to be parkrun eve on Thursday, but that's because we get a bonus parkrun this week. If you're joining us tomorrow (Friday 1st Jan - New Year's Day) at Redland Bay as a parkrunner, volunteer or spectator, you will need to check in using the link below. Please check in each time you attend, noting that each parkrun in QLD has a unique code --> checking in at one does not cover you for another. You can check in before you attend, when you arrive (we'll have t...he QR code posters clearly displayed), or after you finish your run. We can't wait to celebrate the start of the new year with you. Please remember your barcode, your smile and to be properly hydrated (not just with alcohol and coffee)! 6:30 am volunteers arrive (sanitise hands, grab vest, get gear and role sorted) - thank you to our hi-vis team helping out tomorrow. 6:45 am First timers and anyone celebrating a milestone please (so that we can get a photo, safely) 6:55 am (ish) Run brief 7 am Ready, Set, Go! 21.01.2022 For those wondering what the effect of Corona virus is having on parkrun, please read the information provided in the link. At this stage, parkruns in Australia are not being affected, however the situation is constantly being reviewed. Please all stay safe and healthy and keep to common sense. Im looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow morning. Neil | Run Director

21.01.2022 By now you should have seen this notification about the cancellation of parkrun until the end of March (at this stage), and received an email. You may also notice that 'no event' appears on the volunteer roster for the next two weeks. While we will miss our much-loved Saturday morning ritual, I'm sure that our parkrun community will stay strong and that all of us respect the need to do what we can to positively impact this unfortunate and evolving situation. Stay happy and healthy until we can be together once again. Cheryl | Event Director

21.01.2022 Lots of positive energy today with 115 parkrunners starting the new year a little wet! Thanks to our awesome volunteers and welcome to all of our visitors. Enjoy these photos courtesy of our volunteer photographer Steve. Cheers to a happy and healthy 2021!

20.01.2022 While we cannot physically gather to celebrate Easter this year as a parkrun family, we can revisit memories of last year and some of the photos that demonstrate the joy we share - there are so many to choose from! I invite you to revisit any of our albums - they are sure to lift your spirits! Wishing you and those dear to you a beautiful day filled with warmth, light and much love. May there be new life, joy, peace and hope in your hearts. Stay safe. Cheryl | Event Director

20.01.2022 WOW! Three years already. It was on this day 10th June 2017 that the very first parkrun was held at Redland Bay. I thought I would share with you a brief story of how I became involved in parkrun and also one of my favourite moments from the last three years. It really doesnt seem that long ago that Liv Coop, Event Director at Cleveland parkrun and founder of The Redland Plodders, mentioned to me that Cheryl may be looking for help at the soon to be launched Redland Bay pa...rkrun. I knew about parkrun as I had done about 20 runs at Cleveland parkrun. So at the trial I introduced myself to Cheryl and offered my assistance. I had no idea what I was getting into! If Id have known, I would have become involved sooner. Cheryl was very patient and supporting always. You dont have to look very hard to see what an amazing influence Cheryl has been on not just parkrun but also our community in general. Over the last three years I have met many people at parkrun that I am now proud to call friends, including our fantastic core event team. I know it is a bit cliché but it really is an amazing community feel. I have so many fantastic memories that have been created on Saturday mornings at Sel Outridge Park, it is hard to pick just one. However the one I have chosen is New Years Day 2020. We had 385 happy faces in our park, bright and shiny on New Years Day, the most we have had participating since our launch (394). This is by far the most people I had ever addressed and needless to say I was a little nervous. I managed to stumble through the run brief and before I realised it was over and time to say Ready, Set, Go. It was a great sight to see that many people on our oval. It is a shame that we cannot all gather to celebrate our third birthday at this time. However, I am sure there will be plenty of celebrations once we are allowed to gather again! Until then stay safe and fit, Paul Mayo RD. See more

20.01.2022 As we wrap up another week in these challenging times, we acknowledge the struggles so many in our community are facing. The parkrun mission for a happier and healthier planet has never been more relevant or important. We may not be able to choose what happens to us or around us, but we can choose how we respond to it. While this crisis has taken so much away, it has given us the gift of time and the opportunity for creativity, love and gratitude to shine. There are lots ...of resources available (including from our local libraries online) to help you and your family through this, and to sow the seeds for hobbies, interests and experiences to enrich your days. Fresh air and sunshine are available in abundance, and its beautiful to see little messages of kindness and hope emerging - I found the one below earlier this week, and I think I know who put it there! Until it is once again safe for us to gather as a parkrun community, please stay positive, active and connected. Sending virtual hugs to you all. Cheryl | Event Director See more

19.01.2022 A wonderful morning by the bay, where we welcomed the Blood, Sweat and Beers (BSB) group, celebrated Salli's 50th parkrun, and wished Neil and Dave a Happy Birthday. Thanks to Blas from BSB for these photos. While the oval was a tad boggy, the spirits were high and there are plenty of smiles in this album!

19.01.2022 As we embrace week two of this strange new world order, I hope all of you are staying active and finding ways to support each other. The situation will continue to rapidly evolve for some time yet, so it's important that we find ways to maintain our 'happy and healthy' focus, and the connections we value. Since mid 2014 parkrun has been part of my life, when I was introduced to Liv and the amazing community at Cleveland parkrun. That ramped up significantly two years late...r when I started preparing to launch our event at Redland Bay, and then exploded and exponentially grew after we launched in June 2017. I can barely remember life without all of you beautiful people in it. I miss parkrun as much, if not more, than you do, and it's only been a week....! However, at this time we have to adapt and put our energies towards making a positive difference in whatever ways we can. Make sure you're following parkrun Australia to stay updated and enjoy the interesting content they share. In addition, the link below provides some excellent resources, courtesy of the University of Melbourne, to help you, or someone you love, through these challenging times. If you're struggling, please reach out. We are family, and we're all in this together. Stay safe and let hope and light fill your days. Cheryl | Event Director See more

19.01.2022 We've had 8 parkruns at Redland Bay this year, with finishers numbering 115, 139, 136, 153, 175, 191, 160 and 151 (an average of 152.5). Huge, for our little parkrun I've said it before, but it is so fantastic to welcome newcomers, visitors and lots of families to our Saturday gatherings. We've also had an amazing bunch of volunteers this year who have filled the mornings with positive energy, and we're going to need some help in coming weeks to continue that vibe. ...This week we need: - Timekeeper (easy now with the Virtual Volunteer app) - Finish Tokens - Barcode Scanners - Marshals (Golf Club & Bay St) - Photographer If you can fill some gaps, we'd love to hear from you. 18.01.2022 Happy Saturday parkrun people. Lovely to see so many friendly faces out and about in our beautiful Redlands. Many states are now welcoming parkrun back (NT, TAS, WA, ACT and soon SA). In Queensland, parkrun is working with with the State Government and Chief Health Officer, so fingers crossed there will be some positive news soon - we have been advised we'll get at least 2 weeks' notice. Please keep an eye on the parkrun AU facebook page and your email for the latest upda...tes. In the meantime please be sure to keep active and log your "(not)parkrun" times against your profile - simply use the link in the emails parkrun sends you, or just Google "parkrun signin" (you'll need your barcode number and your password - there's a link to reset it if you have long forgotten it!). Any time during the week that you run 5kms, you can log it as a 'not parkrun' - anywhere, anytime, and as many times as you like - your fastest time for the week will appear in the results when they're posted on Sunday night. https://www.parkrun.com.au/redla/results/notparkrunhistory/ Cheryl - Volunteer Event Director

18.01.2022 To help celebrate Redland Bay parkruns 3rd birthday, our Event Director, the ever bubbly, ever dedicated, effervescent Cheryl Lawie wrote and posted a wonderful essay yesterday on what our parkrun means to her. It goes without saying that without Cheryl, Redland Bay parkrun probably wouldnt exist. So, kudos to you, Cheryl and our eternal thanks for what you have brought into our lives. (Honorable mention to Paul Mayo who was also an integral hand in the early days and con...tinues to be so). But now, she has asked each Run Director to share a post each day and maybe find one parkrun photo that we really connect with and share that, along with our reflection of our parkrun journey and what the community means to us. Not so difficult to do, as there are so many great photos and associated memories. The hardest part is trying to pick just one. But here I go For such an international event, attended by thousands of people every Saturday morning, parkrun can become such a personal thing. And what is more personal than your own wedding. Beryl and I were married on Saturday, 23rd March 2019. And naturally being a Saturday, the first thing we attended to that morning was parkrun. And what a wonderful surprise we had when we turned up at the park. The place was decked out with balloons, streamers and even a wedding cake had been baked. Our wonderful parkrun family had organized a pre-wedding, pre-parkrun run, wedding reception. If it wasnt for the actual wedding that afternoon, the morning would have been the highlight of the day! So, for Beryl and me, parkrun is more than just a run every Saturday morning. It means friends and family and a wonderful sense of warmth and belonging. It says a lot that with the Covid19 restrictions in place, many of us have kept in contact to support one another through these trying times. Many people become parkrun tourists and travel to other parkruns, throughout Australia and internationally. (Who hasnt organized their holiday around parkrun!?) And they are all run by wonderful Run Directors and their team of marvellous volunteers. And no matter where you may travel you are always made to feel welcome whenever you attend these other parkruns. But there is nothing like home. And there is nothing like your home parkrun. And for us, it is Redland Bay. It is a shame that we are unable to have a real celebration this coming weekend but rest assured that celebrations will occur at the first opportunity. Happy 3rd birthday Redland Bay parkrun! Neil | Run Director

18.01.2022 With December in full swing it's time to think about parkrun "special events". At Redland Bay, we will not be hosting a parkrun on Christmas Day (Friday 25th December), however we do look forward to welcoming you to celebrate the New Year on Friday 1st January 2021, starting at 7am as usual. We will also be operating as usual on Saturday 26th December (Boxing Day) and Saturday 2nd January (the day after New Year's Day - so while you cannot do a 'double' on New Year's Day th...is year, you can do parkrun two days in a row!). Our volunteer roster is open and looking forward to welcoming you over the festive season. This weekend (12th December) we are looking for a Bay St Marshal (best view on course!) and a photographer, and there are plenty of vacancies in coming weeks. Please let us know if you can help. To see a list of which parkruns will and will not be operating on Christmas and New Year's Day, please use this link: https://www.parkrun.com.au/special-events/ Cheryl - Event Director See more

18.01.2022 As we were expecting, parkrun events globally will continue to be suspended until at least the end of May. Please use this time to soak up our gorgeous local area, responsibly of course in line with the guidelines and constraints we must follow. Stay connected with our community, and check out some of the creative things people are doing and sharing to make our days shine. For example, if you go for a trot, try to take in streets which start with each letter of your name, or our parkrun name, or the pirate club (7 Cs and an R). Have fun, keep smiling and stay safe Cheryl - Event Director

17.01.2022 How good to be back with our fantastic parkrun community! Thank you to the 126 parkrunners who joined us today at Redland Bay for event #146, and the 12 awesome volunteers who made it happen. A gorgeous morning and a high tide, with 14 PBs (well done legends!) and 20 first timers - welcome one and all. 16.01.2022 When we resume our parkrun on 28th November, our timekeeping and scanning operations will use the parkrun Virtual Volunteer app, as they have done in the past, but there will be a couple of key changes: 1) After you cross the finish line you will still get a finish token (which we'll be cleaning each week) and bring it to the table for scanning, but: --> you hold your barcode and token out to be scanned (no-one else touches them), and --> you put your finish token into... a tub which we'll supply, so that our volunteers do not need to be handling tokens from 100+ different people. 2) Instead of emailing results to us via the Virtual Volunteer app, volunteers will scan their barcode (please remember to bring it) and then scan an QR code which will be in the barcode scanning folder, and the app will automatically transfer the data to the parkrun results processing system. If you're one of our awesome V-Vest heroes, please use the link below to download the latest version of the app and check out what's changed. Cheryl | Event Director See more

There is plenty of parking available at the Redland Bay Hotel if the lower carpark (along Peel St/Esplanade) is full. If you'll be running a milestone tomorrow (e.g. 50, 100 parkruns or a Junior 10 or Volunteer 25), please come and see us before the main run brief, or after your run, so we can grab a photo to share later. 16.01.2022 This latest news from parkrun will not surprise anyone. We stand united in our cooperation, and our hope for better times ahead. One day, one step at a time. Stay safe everyone.

16.01.2022 Thanks for the huge boost of positive energy this morning for parkrun #158 at Redland Bay. We had 151 happy faces across the line, 25 of them achieving a new PB! We welcomed 39 parkrunners to Redland Bay for the first time, and visitors from Wynnum, Lota and Zillmere. A huge thank you to team BSB (Blood, Sweat & Beers) who filled our volunteer roster today and featured strongly in our results, with first (Nick Benson 18:26), second (Samuel McGill) and third (Craig Wilson)... across the line. First female today was Lainie Groundwater (22:47) and our first junior Whyatt Kelly (20:40). Best age grade today was Paul Sutherland (19:48, 75.04%). Well done everyone! Congratulations to Salli Ruiter who joined the red shirt club today with 50 parkruns. Happy Birthday to Neil Schmidt and to Dave Kytic (who joined a new age group today!). 15.01.2022 It will be lovely to see the whole team of female volunteers all in purple on Saturday to celebrate International Womens Day. But it got some of us thinking.....what about the fellas? So we want to create our own little bit of fun and on Saturday April 4th we will be having a "Men At Work" theme with an all male volunteer team. We've already got a time keeper and barcode scanner so am putting the call out for guys who want to join us? In keeping with the theme you even get a... gorgeous hi-vis vest to wear on the day! "Do you come from a land down under.......You better run, better take cover!" (Knowledge of the lyrics not required). Have a great week - Julian | Men at Work RD

15.01.2022 This weekend we'll be celebrating International Women's Day. We have a full tide and a full volunteer roster (thank you ladies ) and we are very excited about celebrating some more milestones ! This is a special invitation as well to anyone who may feel they are too 'X' for parkrun (where X is anything holding you back, like slow, fat, scared, old, young, shy, different or whatever nagging doubt or constraining label you or anyone else may have placed on you). At parkr...un we embrace 'X' - our community is welcoming, inclusive and diverse. Come and see what we mean. Grab your purple and join us for our pre-run brief at 6:50am. All of the usual parkrun rules apply, so please: 1) bring your barcode (register at parkrun.com.au if you have not already done so) and your smile 2) thank our awesome volunteers 3) children under 11 within arms reach 4) dogs (one per person) on a short leash 5) no bikes or scooters. We look forward to welcoming you. Cheryl | Run Director See more

15.01.2022 While tonight's storms have brought some relief, the heat is here to stay for a while, and it's really important that we all learn to manage our response to it. In particular, when you join us each week for parkrun, please make sure you have fuelled your body and are prepared for the conditions and your level of exertion. For some it's about how fast and how far, but for others (like me) it's more about the beautiful people and places it connects you with, the colour it brings to your day with stunning sunrises and sunsets, the challenges, the conquests, the coffee/chocolate and of course the cake! We run because, in so many ways, it makes a positive difference in our lives - feel free to celebrate that with gratitude, joy and hope. Stay safe, warm and embrace the choices that help us create a happier and healthier world together. Cheryl | Event Director

14.01.2022 What a great comeback! So good to see everyone - 126 parkrunners, 12 volunteers, 20 first timers and 14 PBs is a fantastic way to reboot our much-loved weekend ritual. Thank you all for joining us. Enjoy these memories thanks to our volunteer photographer Felicity. Note: this is the first batch only .... having awful trouble uploading today sorry! Many more to come.

14.01.2022 We all know that I am the luckiest guy in the world. Why? Well I think its pretty obvious really. Not only am I married to the most beautiful woman in the world, I also have the good fortune to live in the most beautiful part of Australia. I came to running later in life, starting 12 years ago, and to be honest it wasnt fun. But being able to share the running journey with Tina we stuck at it, to the point where the last thing we did in the UK before coming to Australia in... 2012 was run the London Marathon. We ran together (because thats what we do) and I will always remember about 2km from the finish I told her I think I will walk the rest of the way. Her response is not repeatable, suffice to say we ran to the finish line. I first heard about parkrun from a work colleague in 2015 and when they told me it started at 7am every Saturday, I said you must be joking! But on 19th March 2016 we completed our first event at Sirromet. Oh the hills! After living in Sydney for a year and doing the Rhodes parkrun regularly there, we missed Reddy Bay so much that we returned home only to find a new parkrun event here. Cheryl and Paul were (and remain) our absolute inspiration and our welcome into the Redland Bay parkrun community was warm and genuine. We were hooked. I mentioned that Tina and I always run together, which we do. But its been noted that on recent parkruns she has been finishing a minute or two ahead of me. You might think that is because she is faster than me, or that I let her win. In fact none of that is true, rather I like to think we were practicing social distancing long before it became fashionable and compulsory. The photo I choose takes us back to a simpler time and is the collage from our 2nd anniversary last year because to me it represents so many things that makes RB pr special. Plus it can remind us what a celebration looks like.mmm CAKE! The fact is there are no egos at parkrun, everyone is the same whether you walk, run, jump, gallop, skip, crawl, sprint, plod, jog, canter or hop around the course. And volunteering is just as rewarding as it is amazing to be amongst such friendly and caring people, and it would be remiss of me not to thank every volunteer, including the awesome core event team and families who inspire me every weekend. Thank you to everyone who makes our parkrun life so enjoyable, we cant wait for the day we can get back together. We both count our blessings to realise how lucky we are to play a small part in such a wonderful community at Redland Bay parkrun. Its another reason why I am the luckiest guy in the world. Stay healthy, stay happy. Julian | RD

14.01.2022 As we continue to navigate our way through this "interesting" year, staying happy and healthy have never been more important. Take a quick look at these words of wisdom from Queensland Health - our mental health deserves some focus, and we are blessed to live in a beautiful spot with a climate to support us embracing these self-care tips. Remember to keep an eye on the emails and facebook updates from the parkrun team, and of course all of the latest health advice to keep our community safe. Have a wonderful week and keep smiling. Cheryl - Event Director

12.01.2022 Happy Wednesday everyone. I hope you have dried out from the drenching we have had over the past few days. I am rather hoping for an early Christmas present on Saturday in the form of a Bar Code Scanner, after all I have been pretty good this year (well most of the year anyway!) If anyone wants to volunteer please let me know so we can complete our line up of smiley happy faces. Thanks in advance and hope you have a great rest of the week. Only 3 more sleeps........ Julian | RD

11.01.2022 This Sunday we celebrate all of our Dads, Grandads, Dads to be, and everyone who plays a father figure role in our community. Thank you for your guidance, support, strength and warmth. We are blessed to have many fine examples to inspire us. A special shout out to the new Dads this year, the new Grandads, and those in waiting. We also remember those who cannot be with their Dads, and the families and individuals for whom this time is a struggle. We hope there are memories shared, memories made, and many moments that bring smiles and gratitude. Choose happy and stay safe. Cheryl | Event Director

11.01.2022 With Easter now upon us and home confinement continuing, a sustained and deliberate focus on health and happiness is important. Hopefully you are all taking the opportunity to stay physically active in this glorious weather, while respecting the precautions and constraints placed upon us. In terms of mental health, there is a lot of amusing and creative content available online to entertain and distract us. Some of the most inspiring places (which have parkruns and more!)... are now offering free digital experiences e.g. google Melbourne Museum at home, or Lourve Museum online tours (did you know this iconic institution was originally a fortress built by the King in 1190 to protect Paris from attack via the Siene!). Even better is stumbling across something relatable and helpful in these challenging times. The article linked below from the Harvard Business Review is an easy, quick and empowering read. May it provide for you permission to acknowledge any feelings you may be struggling with, and a light to guide you to a better place. May this Easter season bring you joy, peace and hope. Stay safe, stay well, and stay connected with your parkrun family were here for you. Cheryl | Event Director See more

10.01.2022 Well done to our 139 parkrunners today and thank you to our awesome volunteers, including our photographer Trudy who stepped in at the last minute to capture the positive energy and memories. There are some fantastic photos of big finishes from little legs - makes the heart smile. It was wonderful to have so many children with us today. Welcome to all of our visitors and 26 first timers, and well done to the 15 people who achieved a new PB.

10.01.2022 Its National Volunteer Week (18-24 May 2020), a great time to salute all of our wonderful volunteers, who are the life of our parkruns. In Queensland there are 106 parkrun locations, across which the number of participants and volunteers varies (e.g. on 14 March Southbank had 415 parkrunners and 23 volunteers, and at Redland Bay we had 97 parkrunners and 13 volunteers, some of those being children helping out with their parents, which is encouraging to see). If we assume... an average of 10 volunteers per event per week, thats 55,120 volunteers per year! In our sunshine state there are also 32,000 Rural Fire Service volunteers across 1,500 brigades, 5,500 volunteers working with the RSPCA, and around 60 surf life saving clubs. I could go on, but you get the idea of the huge impact volunteers make every year in our state alone. Many of our beautiful parkrun people also give generously of their time towards these and other sporting, educational, religious, community, environmental, emergency and other organisations, events and causes. Together we make a huge positive difference, and thats something to be incredibly proud of! If youre looking to ramp up your contributions or open your volunteering account, there are plenty of opportunities, including of course our many parkruns when it is once again safe for us to resume our sacred Saturday ritual. You can also head to your local Councils website https://www.redland.qld.gov.au//volunteering_and_local_ini) or visit Volunteering Australias Go Volunteer page using the link below (or download the app) where you can register your availability, skills and interests and then be notified of suitable one-off, short term or long term opportunities as they arise. Thank you to all of our amazing volunteers, and Happy National Volunteer Week: changing communities, changing lives. Cheryl | Event Director See more

09.01.2022 A wet one, but a wonderful high tide. We welcomed 48 parkrunners and thank our 9 volunteers. Congratulations to all those who achieved a PB, and to our legendary first finishers today. Enjoy these photos.

09.01.2022 After a week of forced rest, we are back to parkrun on Saturday this week. We are looking for two volunteers to don the orange vests to fill our crew. This week we need a funnel manager and photographer. Please comment below or send us a message if you can join the Redland Bay Volunteer team for this week. Please be aware, you will be required to carry a mask with you. Mark - Run Director

08.01.2022 We celebrated International Women's Day in style at Redland Bay. Thank you to the 124 parkrunners and 11 awesome all-girl volunteers who joined us today. Loved the loads of purple and the beautiful smiles. Enjoy these photos thanks to Debbie Butler, today's volunteer photographer. Today's Run Report is now available: https://www.parkrun.com.au/redlandbay/news/ Cheryl | Run Director

08.01.2022 Today (13 November) is World Kindness Day, a great day to reflect on the difference kindness makes and how our people maketh our parkruns! Whether it's the contribution of our awesome volunteers, our shared celebrations, the smiles that light up your morning, or the new friendships and positive energy, our community sure brings the 'happier and healthier' into our days. Although we will need to change the way we interact when we return from 28th November (in terms of physical contact and proximity), kindness, like parkrun, will always be free and appreciated. See how you can share the love today. Cheryl - Event Director

08.01.2022 If you've been wondering what this 'not parkrun' thing is about, it's very easy: run 5km anywhere you like (doesn't have to be on a parkrun course), any day, any time you like (doesn't have to be 7am Saturday), and record that time against your existing parkrun profile (which you can access via the link in any email you receive from parkrun). You can record as many of these as you like, doing a different route each time if you want to, at any pace, and each week your faste...st time (uploaded by midnight Sunday) will appear in the results on the Redland Bay parkrun page (or whichever event you have registered as your home parkrun). These "not parkruns" do not count in your run tally, or towards any milestone shirts - they are simply a way of staying active and staying connected with our parkrun community during this time when we cannot all run together. You can find lots more information about "not parkrun" on the FAQs page: https://support.parkrun.com//360009843618--not-parkrun-FAQs The Redland Bay "not parkrun" results page can be found here: https://www.parkrun.com.au/redlandbay/results/notparkrun/ Have fun and stay happy and healthy. 08.01.2022 Hot conditions for our 133 parkrunners today. We welcomed 17 first timers and 16 people achieved a new PB. Thanks to our volunteer photographer Steve for these photos. (more coming later, batches)

07.01.2022 It's Men's Health Week (June 15 - 21) and we'd like to give a big shout out to all of our male superstars! Our youngest boys are just 4 years old, and we have some wonderful Grandads in their 70s and 80s who inspire us all with their energy and enthusiasm. The age group with the highest number of registered males at Redland Bay is JM11-14, which is fantastic to see! To celebrate Men's Health Week, be sure to check in on the special guys in your life. There are so...me wonderful resources on the Men's Health Week website (https://www.menshealthweek.org.au/) and check out Blokepedia: http://blokepedia.com/. There are also local Men's Sheds (https://mensshed.org/) and some awesome positive examples in our own community. We say thank you to all of our boys - stay happy and healthy, and we look forward to parkrunning with you all again soon (when it's safe for us to return - keep an eye on parkrun Australia's posts for the latest updates). 07.01.2022 Our thanks to Lainie for capturing this morning's memories.

07.01.2022 Wishing all of our beautiful mothers, grandmothers and all variations thereof a wonderful day. They say it takes a village to raise a child, and it fills me with joy to know that our parkrun village is such a safe and inclusive place for our children, families and fur-babies. We have a very strong showing of ladies who enrich our community with their smiles, kindness, compassion, patience, generosity and hard work. Thank you for the shining example you set. May love and peace fill your hearts and homes. Stay happy, healthy and safe. Cheryl | Event Director P.S. the images in this collage are just from January and February of this year - how blessed we are!

06.01.2022 We're almost there - it's parkrun eve! Rest assured a little sprinkle from above will not dampen our spirits - we still run, but please be prepared and always consider your own safety, well-being and hydration in planning your Saturday morning. A few quick reminders: A = alarm (we're "Ready, Set, Go" at 7am with a briefing around 6:50am) B = bring your barcode (you will not get a time without it) C = children under 11 within arms reach at all times D = dogs on a short lead... (one per person, and not with a pram) E = everyone (runners, volunteers, spectators) needs to check in for contact tracing using the link below -> before, during or after the event. We look forward to welcoming you in the morning. https://www.parkrun.com/trace/6rf See more

06.01.2022 As we look ahead to parkrun #176 at Redland Bay this weekend, we are grateful for the amazing support of our community , and hoping you can help us fill three roles on our volunteer roster please: barcode scanner x 1, finish tokens, photograher. If you haven't joined Team V yet, this is the perfect opportunity! The roles are easy and we will provide training. We see the positive difference parkrun makes for so many people - come and join us to be part of that buzz! Enjoy the rest of your week - stay safe and happy. 05.01.2022 With three weeks (and one day, but who's counting?) until we resume our much loved Saturday ritual, there will be a lot of information shared to help us stay safe. Please be patient as we adjust to and accommodate some new requirements. Three things you can do right now to start getting ready are: 1) find your barcode!! (if that's unsuccessful, you'll need to log into your parkrun profile and re-print it: https://www.parkrun.com/signin/ (there is a link there for forgot...ten passwords) or order a new plastic token, card, flat or wrist band here: https://parkrun-shop.com.au/) 2) get familiar with the new COVID-safe code below, which applies in addition to our regular parkrun code (e.g. 1 dog per person on a short lead, juniors under 11 years within arms reach at all times, etc.). 3) warm up your smile - we can't wait to see that! Have an awesome weekend. Cheryl - Event Director See more

05.01.2022 Congratulations to our Event Ambassador Alan Burrell and his lovely wife Roisin, and the whole event team at Wynnum parkrun. They would have been celebrating their 8th anniversary today. Wynnum was the start of parkrun in our area, and Alan has seeded and continues to support all of the other parkruns in the Redlands (and some further afield) that we know and love. While we can't host our events at the moment, we can still enjoy all of the beautiful places and amazing people parkrun has introduced us to. Happy anniversary Wynnum, and thanks for starting something awesome! Cheryl | Event Director

05.01.2022 Following advice provided by the Queensland Government, all parkrun events in the Greater Brisbane area (Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich, Moreton and Redlands) will be cancelled this weekend (Saturday 9 January 2021). This includes Redland Bay parkrun. Please note that Redland City Council have also closed all parks during the lockdown period (from 6pm tonight (Friday 8 January) until 6pm Monday 11 January). Please respect the lockdown restrictions. Safety, health and wellbeing... are our priority. We hope to return next week. Please keep your fingers crossed and an eye on the news. Stay safe. 05.01.2022 If you find yourself a little melancholy at this time of the week, find a moment to be inspired and amazed by the Spotlight on South Africa. If you thought Fluffy at Nambour was a drawcard, this blog bring a new level of 'wow' (and who knew pelicans were a different colour in South Africa?). We are blessed to have some folk from this incredibly diverse continent as much loved members of parkrun family at Redland Bay. I will borrow Bruce's words from this article "parkrun is about people". We absolutely believe that, and hope that all of you are staying safe, well, active and positive. Soak up our glorious sunshine and fresh air, and please reach out if you need to. Big virtual hugs all around (for now, until I can translate them into the real deal again!!) Cheryl | Event Director

05.01.2022 Just in case you missed them, there have been some posts from parkrun this week that are worth knowing about: 1. The weekly update from Tom Williams, Chief Operating Officer for parkrun Global, published on Wednesday (2 Sep), announced that parkrun's previous position of only reopening events when it was safe to do so in the entire country has been reviewed, and re-opening on a "sub-national" level in some locations will now be considered. This was followed last night (Fri... 4 Sep) by the announcement that events in the Northern Territory will be re-opening on Saturday 19 September, which is great news for everyone in the top end. We wish them well. 2. On Thursday 3 Sep parkrun published the findings of the Rapid Scoping Review of Evidence of Outdoor Transmission of COVID-19, conducted by the Canterbury Christ Church University. The executive summary is linked below, basically saying that outdoor transmission presents a low risk provided the parameters of distance, density, circulation and duration are respected. That means in plain English that there is a good chance of staying safe out in the sunshine as long as there are not too many people, we keep our distance from each other, keep our "contact" time short, and don't mix too much in the group. It's also important that in the event of an infection, people at risk can be contacted as soon as possible. These are common sense considerations that apply regardless of what you're doing, so they're worth sharing and respecting. Stay safe, healthy and happy and keep an eye on the parkrun Australia facebook page. Have a wonderful weekend. 04.01.2022 Our volunteer team this week requires a Timekeeper, so I thought I would put out an early call. If you are interested in filling this very vital position, please raise your hand or better still, respond right here. Many thanks. I hope you are all having a good week. Stay safe and healthy and I look forward to seeing you all on Saturday Morning.... Neil | Run Director

04.01.2022 We welcome the cooler conditions this week as we look ahead to parkrun #158 at Redland Bay this Saturday. A huge shout out and sincere thank you to the BSB group (Blood, Sweat and Beers) who are filling our volunteer roster. We had the pleasure of a recon visit from a few BSB members in January. You'll notice the distinctive singlets and gorgeous colours of the Wynnum/Manly sunrise that identify the group. Please join me in making them feel very welcome in our Redland Bay parkrun family. 4 sleeps and counting. Cheryl - Run Director

04.01.2022 We hope everyone is happy and healthy, and staying active along our beautiful Redlands Coast. Last Friday the provisional COVID-19 Framework for parkrun was published. Keep an eye on your email and parkruns facebook page for updates. While its too early to have a date for resuming our Saturday ritual, the framework outlines key principles that will apply to help minimise risks. We expect further information to come, particularly relating to directives applicable in ...each State (e.g. collecting information for contact tracing). Some of the key elements of the framework are what we are already doing in our homes and communities, such as: 1) Staying home if youre unwell or otherwise required to isolate; 2) Extra attention to hygiene (washing / sanitising hands); 3) Maintaining physical distance and minimising time spent in close contact (we are fortunate at Redland Bay to have plenty of space, and not the huge crowds that some parkruns need to manage); 4) Reducing touch points (contactless where possible). To achieve this there will be changes to how we manage some aspects of our weekly routine. For example, our high-5s will be virtual (air-5) and barcode scanning will be contactless you hold your token and athlete barcodes out to be scanned, then you keep your barcode and you put your token into a tub, and we wash and sort the tokens at home later. Keeping children within arms reach will become even more important, and we are encouraged to attend parkruns in our local area. You can learn more via the link below. We do look forward to gathering again when its safe to do so, and we thank you for your patience and your support as our new normal takes shape. Take care, and share kindness when and where you can. Cheryl | Event Director See more

04.01.2022 The gorgeous moon we have is a reminder that it has been a few moons since we have been able to gather and celebrate our Saturday ritual. As restrictions are easing in Queensland, we have the opportunity to get out and about a little more, and come together in groups of increasiing size, being mindful of our "new normal" hygiene practices. If you are wondering what that means for parkrun, keep an eye on the facebook page, and the regular blogs published on the website, li...ke the link below. In summary, the strategy for re-commencing is that the whole country must be ready, so for now we stay patient and focused on doing the right thing. We will be back as soon as it is safe for all of us to do that. Stay happy and healthy and enjoy our glorious natural surrounds. 04.01.2022 Last Saturday 27,500 people participated in one of 218 parkrun events who are fortunate enough to be in action across 5 countries. We're very excited to be one of them! This weekend 37 events in South Australia will join in, which is more great news. As we edge closer to Saturday morning, our volunteer roster is looking a little bare. If you can help out this weekend we'd love to hear from you. Have a fabulous day. Thanks, Cheryl - Run Director

04.01.2022 Welcome to Winter, and the stunning sunrises over Straddie it delivers. It also means the anniversary of our parkrun launch at Redland Bay. This time 3 years ago (10 June 2017) 394 parkrunners gathered. 145 events later, we have had 2,718 different people cross our finish line, and are sincerely grateful to the 284 volunteers who have made that happen. We will celebrate in our usual style when we can , and until then I have challenged myself, and the other fabulous mem...bers of our core team, to share a photo (choosing just one is soooo hard) or video that means something special. I've gone back to the beginning, Event #1, and it's been an absolute pleasure to go through that album and see the beautiful people who joined us on that day, so many of whom are now much loved members of our parkrun family. Even more amazing is the reflection of the many more who have joined us since - we now have 1, 319 registered parkrunners who call Redland Bay home, and I could not be more proud of nor more grateful for the generous, welcoming and supportive community we have built together. I would like to sincerely thank everyone who has been part of that journey, and I can't wait for the next chapter to begin. The photo I have chosen is of Sienna Nisbet, who celebrated her 50th different (tourist) parkrun when she attended our launch. Standing by was Mayor Karen Williams, and we thank Redland City Council for their ongoing support. In the background are my children, who volunteered on the day and often in the early days, and Roisin Burrell, who with her husband Alan, our Event Ambassador, have been a constant source of inspiration and support. Out of the frame, but very much present then, as he is now, was Paul Mayo. We both had the 'L' plates on that day, and Paul's humour, patience, practicality and hard work stand behind everything we have achieved. Thank you also to the other amazing members who have joined our event team: Neil, Mark, Cherylee and Julian, and their partners and families. Your passion, generosity, creativity and commitment make our parkrun community what it is, and we are blessed to have your support. Cheers to many more healthy and happy Saturdays together! 03.01.2022 We're nearly there .... and just one final but very important thing you need to know and do. To comply with the Queensland Government's contact tracing requirements, we need everyone who attends our parkrun to 'check in' each time you join us by scanning this QR code before, during or after the event. Only one member of the household/group needs to check in, to record a name, phone number and email address. The information cannot be accessed by us (as an event team) - it... is all held centrally by parkrun and not released unless requested by relevant authorities. The QR code will be on display in the park on Saturday morning and is also available on the news section of our website: https://www.parkrun.com.au/redlandbay/news/ If you attend another parkrun, they will also have a QR code you need to scan, unique to their event. You must scan to check in each week that you attend, as a parkrunner, volunteer or spectator. Thank you in advance for your support. We are very excited to welcome you, your family and friends and your barcode this Saturday. Cheryl | Event Director See more

03.01.2022 While our social interaction and regular schedule is disrupted, we have the opportunity to challenge ourselves to some positive reflection to help us hold up parkruns happier and healthier mission and tackle another week. Heres a couple of quotes I love: - Where your focus goes, your energy flows. - Your mind is a garden, your thoughts are the seeds; you can grow flowers or you can grow weeds? While youre absorbing those words of wisdom, please check out th...e Health Hub available on the Blackmores website (one of our parkrun sponsors). Youll find information on a variety of topics (e.g. digestion, immunity, heart and circulation) that may plant some helpful seeds. Keep up your love of being active and the beautiful people and places that activity connects you with. Stay safe and stay positive. Were still here and well be back. Cheryl | Event Director See more

02.01.2022 When asked to post a photo that means something to me about my experience as part of your parkrun team I was lost. There are just way too many lol but I eventually chose this one as it was the first day of spring. The month where beautiful things grow just like our parkrun family has done over the past 3 years and just like we will do when we can all reunite. Redland Bay parkrun has had such a huge impact on my life that it is hard to put into words. Since my very first time... attending (run #2) where I was nervous, self conscious and felt totally out of place. Within minutes I was made to feel welcomed and the joy and support from all the volunteers was inspiring. Wasn't long before my two sons joined me. (ok so Harrison got a lift in my baby carrier lol) and then my parents and uncle were inspired to start as they could see the joy I felt and probably talked a lot about doing parkrun. I have met and been inspired by so many wonderful people, especially the core team who supported a very nervous and new RD. I have also achieved things I never thought possible with the support of our parkrun community. Thank you all my Redland Bay parkrun family for your constant support whether I am volunteering or running/walking. I feel privileged to be a part of your core team and look forward to many more memorable moments in the future. Looking forward to seeing you all and to celebrate our birthday (mmmmmm cake :) ) Stay safe Cherylee x

02.01.2022 Happy Winter Solstice everyone - we can look forward to the days slowing getting longer again! Last week was Men's Health Week. Statistics show that the most common serious health issues are heart related. There are lots of lifestyle choices that can reduce risk (i.e. diet, physical activity, cholesterol, blood pressure), but it's also important to know the basics of a first response in the event of an emergency. Our first aid kit includes a defibrillator. While we hope we never have to use it, I encourage everyone please to take the 2 minutes required to watch the short video below, so that we are all prepared. Thanks for your support. 02.01.2022 A hot one today for parkrun #147 at Redland Bay. Thank you to the 133 people who joined us and the 10 volunteers who made it possible (thank you Matthew, Paul, Katrina, Debbie, Paul, Debbie, Steve, Bec and Tamara). Welcome to all of our first timers (17) and well done to the 16 people who achieved a new PB in this heat! Congratulations to Aaron Salt who joined the 100 parkruns milestone club today, and to Nikita Van Heerden who joined the Junior 10 club. Well done to o...ur first finishers: - Male, Junior and overall (with a new PB): Whyatt Kelly in 20:30 - Female: Cara Stangstins in 23:35 (first time at Redland Bay) - Age Grade: Paul Sutherland in 20:39, 72.56% Thank you to everyone who helped out in various ways today. We did have a heat related incident this morning. It is very important to hydrate and listen to your bodies, particularly for all those tackling various crazy distances at the GC50 tomorrow. Please take extra care in these hot, humid conditions. If you forgot to check in for our contract tracing, please do so via the link below. Photos will be up later today (hopefully!). Have a wonderful weekend and we look forward to doing it all again next week. 02.01.2022 Queensland Health published a post today about the benefits of gratitude, both to the givers and receivers. I'm a huge believer in that, and am extremely grateful for our amazing parkrun community, the wonderful people in it, the freedom we have to take part and the awesome volunteers who make it happen each week. It appears we're not alone though, with the story below from Atherton in NQ being another example of the transformational power of parkrun. Worth clicking the link for a quick read about Darren's journey - the before and after shots don't do it justice. Have a wonderful week, and find something in each day to be grateful for.
