25.01.2022 MYB have been super busy this week learning about multiplication making groups of and rows of. They also love talking about fractions and counting. Exciting times!



23.01.2022 In recent months this year we have welcomed many new staff to our school. Sumari and Kaelon are teaching in the Early Years team. Ruth, Preeti, Lucy and Clara are members of staff in our Middle School, and Charlotte and Monicah are teaching Junior Secondary students.

22.01.2022 Last week EY F enjoyed a shared reading of an imaginative text about Incy Wincy Spider. Students viewed the images on the screen, listened to their teacher read the story and "turned the pages" by pressing a switch. Afterwards, they used their communication systems and answered yes/no questions to give their opinions about spiders which they used to write their predictable chart. Their teacher, Kaelon, was a super star, modelling communication on an eye gaze device and two different types of PODDs (Pragmatic Organisation Dynamic Displays). One was a high contrast partner assisted auditory visual scanning PODD and the other was a direct access PODD.

21.01.2022 This Friday we will be celebrating Bookweek by dressing up as our favourite book characters - costumes can be as simple or as elaborate as you like. Two RCC library staff will be visiting to deliver story telling sessions to the early years classes. It should be a fun day!

21.01.2022 This week is the rescheduled NAIDOC week due to COVID19. We celebrated NAIDOC week at its usual time earlier this year and some classes reflected on this during this week or engaged in additional NAIDOC week celebrations this week. 21.01.2022 Junior Secondary students shared the same habitat as a few creatures last Monday. The Jacobs Well Environmental Education Centre delivered a presentation about living things and their needs for survival.

20.01.2022 Students in JSB are busy in Design and Technology. They are creating the colourful shirts to be worn for their performance in our school concert in November. The students will perform dressed as Trolls!

18.01.2022 This morning four JS Classes ventured to the Discovery Centre to get up close and personal with some native animals and Bushland habitats. We explored the forest and enjoyed the natural playground. We had fun!

17.01.2022 As part of Childrens Book Week, today we celebrated our love of reading and books by dressing up as book characters. The theme this year was Curious Creatures, Wild Minds! There were so many amazing costumes! We couldnt get a photo of everyone but here is a slection of the book characters students and staff dressed up as. Thank you to all the parents who went to the effort of helping their child to dress up and thank you also to the Redland City Council library staff who visited the school hall today to deliver story telling sessions to the Early Years classes.

We are extremely lucky to have 2 wonderful and highly experienced SLPs, Sheryn Wescott and Jenny Matthews, visit our school and ECDP to help our students communicate with confidence. Whether that be reading Wombat Stew in the outdoor library or painting and hiding rocks for other to students to find in the Redlands Rocks! activity, students have had a great time learning in the outdoors.

12.01.2022 Today outdoor classroom celebrations finished with a visit from Redland City Council Library staff for story telling sessions with the Early Years classes in our outdoor library. Thank you Redland City Council Library! Our students always love your story telling sessions.

12.01.2022 The year ten students are studying the science unit Producer, Consumer, Decomposer this semester. They examined microbes in our worm farm, and planted trees last week when the Jacobs Well Environmental Education Centre sent staff for an incursion last week.

09.01.2022 In science, the habitat and life stages of bees is the focus for JSC this semester. Today the class presented Mr Thompson with information around insects and what is required for their needs to be met. The students will be planting insect friendly bushes and designing some bee hotels to place in the garden near their room.

08.01.2022 Congratulations to the fabulous Redlands Ravens for playing an awesome game of basketball today against Southport Special School in very hot conditions. I couldn’t be prouder of the team, they showed teamwork, sportsmanship and determination. Each and every player has shown great improvement throughout the season. We were delighted to wear our new team uniform for the first time. We thank the team at BAYBREEZE DENTAL CARE for providing the sponsorship money to purchase these fantastic shirts. We really do look like a professional team now!! Big thanks to Robina Jones and Kelly Hargrave for all their hard work with the team!

06.01.2022 Today we held our Early Years Sports Day. Our sports houses Coochie, Macleay and Stradbroke competed in running races, sack races, egg and spoon races and a staff race! This was followed by rotational activities such as parachute, long jump, big ball, art relay and more. Thanks to PE teacher, Kelly, and PE teacher-aide, Robina, and all of their helpers for making it such a fun day for our students. 05.01.2022 This semester, Early Years students are exploring a variety of Literacy and Science concepts surrounding the theme Sensing my world. Today they looked, listened, tasted, smelled and touched (with their hands and feet) their way through a range of sensory experiences in the Jacobs Well Environmental Education Centres sensory incursion.

We encourage our staff and students to wear their words each and every day so that Augmentative & Alternative Communication systems are available for students to say what they want, when they want, to who they want and how they want. But on Wear your words day staff go all out dressing up to celebrate how far we have come as a communication accessible school.

02.01.2022 REMINDER: SCHOOL PHOTO DAY TOMORROW

02.01.2022 Each Monday we begin our school week with a PBL (Positive Behaviour for Learning) Parade. This week we learned how the reindeer and elves are going to be safe moving around the South Pole leading up to Christmas. Students receive awards for following our school behaviour expectations, as well as a prize draw for students who have received a Gotcha for great behaviour in the playground! It’s awesome to see how are students are being safe, respectful learners.

02.01.2022 Our students LOVE swimming at our local pools. Our PE teacher, Kelly, supported by our PE teacher-aide, Robina, run swimming lessons focussing on water safety right up to stroke correction depending on students’ needs and abilities. Kelly makes sure AAC (Alternative and Augmentative Communication) is always available even in the pool with her kick board core word board!
