16.01.2022 These are certainly strange times! Do the right thing and stay home but keep in touch with friends and loved ones by phone or social media! During this period your local SES Unit is still operational for any 132500 calls. ... Now is a good time to; - clean out the gutters and check for any loose tiles or holes in your roof - have you restocked your emergency kit from the last holiday/camping trip? - are the aged neighbours ok for food and essentials? (Dont put them at risk when checking on them, no physical contact, practice social distancing - phone is best!) - stay informed on whats happening with COVID-19 but dont over do it. Take time out to do other things! Like you, we are not holding any group meetings but staying in touch via video link ups and carrying out overdue maintenance to make sure we are ready to help you when needed. Some of our members will also be joining the public in uniform on ANZAC day by standing at the end of our driveways at 6am to honour the fallen - check out QLD RSL. Thats it from us for now. Stay home & stay well ! Redlands SES Unit

Cleveland South Street, Council Depot - Entry via Sout...h Street Open until 6pm tonight and tomorrow from 7am - 6pm North Stradbroke Island, Dunwich Council Depot - Entry via Mitchell Crescent 24 hours - Self-help, please bring your own shovel Russell Island, Council Depot - Entry via High Street 24 hours - Self-help, please bring your own shovel Macleay Island Council, Depot - Entry via Scarborough Terrace From 7am tomorrow (28/10) then 24 hours - Self-help, please bring your own shovel. Please note: Maximum limit of 6 sandbags per household. Handy tips! Wear enclosed shoes Bring a buddy to help carry heavy loads and bend your knees when lifting. How do I fill a sandbag? - Sandbags only need to be filled to 2/3 full. - Do not over fill as they will be too heavy to carry. - A filled sandbag can weigh 15-20 kgs. How do I lay a sandbag? - Place down a layer of plastic sheeting to act as the water proofing membrane. - Lay sandbags like brickwork on top of the plastic sheeting. - Ensure the unfilled top part of the bag is covered by the next bag. - Tuck flap under the bag at the end of the row. Where do I place the sandbags? - Cover all drainage holes and floor drains to stop backflow of contaminated water. - Place a small sandbag wall across doorways. The number of layers required will be dependant on the expected flood height, however it is generally around two (2) sandbag rows high. - Make sure that you have at least one doorway that you can use to access or exit the building. - Air vents between brickwork may also require sandbags. More info on sandbagging here redlnd.cc/DIYsandbagging Remember: If it's flooded forget it!
