04.01.2022 Do you want to play Old Boys Rugby. Golden Oldies Rugby has been played in Sydney and Regional NSW since 1983, and in the words from Bob Webster from the Terry ...Hills Old Boys. Normal IRB Laws apply to Golden Oldies Rugby with some important exceptions. Scrums are uncontested, mauls and rucks are not allowed to go on for long and the referee will usually give the ball back to the attacking side, there is no kicking to promote ball in hand rugby and the old fellas are sometimes not that great at catching the ball, and the referee ensures that the game is played at a tempo commensurate with the participants’ ages and abilities and in true rugby spirit mindful of the motto of golden oldies worldwide, Fun, Friendship, and Fraternity. The game looks after older players and those suffering from chronic injuries by those players wearing different coloured shorts meaning they cannot be brought to the ground in tackles or subject to over vigorous play. Team play 8 to 12 games a year and also travels to country areas to take part in Gala Days. Naturally, we are all getting older and we recover from aches and pains much more slowly than we would like, so we are looking for young at heart fellas, aged 35 to 70 plus, to dust off their boots, join us and enjoy the camaraderie that comes with playing a great team sport. Then their is the Community and social side, Bunning BBQ's to raise funds for junior rugby, Gala Days and Auction Events for local charities - given back.
