24.01.2022 Melbourne based Sport nutritionist Chris Fonda discusses the importance of post workout nutrition. Sports nutrition has moved on a lot in the last 20 years, no longer is it just stock up on carbs and go as hard as you can for as long as you can. Sports performance is linked directly to nutrition and mental attitude, #mintnutrition #sportsnutrition

23.01.2022 Squash shoes.. When it comes to sports equipment what we use will affect our game output, this is especially important in squash. The two elements that will be used the most is the racquet and your shoes. Squash can be an intense, high impact, load-bearing game on your joints. Whilst a lot of the strains of squash can be mitigated through a good technique you still need good equipment to ensure you get the most out of your game. When it comes to shoes it's important that seve...ral things are considered. First, you will need no marking shoes, squash courts have wooden floors and runners or generic black soled shoes will leave marks. This makes the court slippery and ruins your shoes too. Look at the bottom of the shoe and look for the words "Non-Marking". Second, you will need court specific shoes that are designed for indoor sports, these will be flat and rubbery sole to prevent slipping. The sole will also be rigid and strong to support the foot during movement around the court. Lastly, only use your shoes for your time on the court, do not wear them outside as grease and oils from the floor will affect teh sole and make them slippery as well picking up stones and other dirt. As always it's best to ensure the shoes fit your feet and you are comfortable in them. Squash shoes will mould to fit your feet over time and will also be made to handle the stresses and strains of teh sport. Many will have additional material in areas that will have higher wear and tear, such as dragging your foot across the floor when moving forward. Many brands will cater for indoor sports and most sports shops and squash centres can provide shoes, some common ones are Mizunno, Karakal, Oliver, Asics and Salming. Prices vary so be prepared to spend a bit more for squash shoes, also note if you wear orthotics you will need to get a set for your sports shoe too if you need them.

23.01.2022 Reopening update More info to come but for now as per government guidelines the facility will reopen to group fitness, cardio and weights area. Due to restrictions on numbers squash, pool and tennis will remain closed until restrictions are lifted further. The decision to reopen more zones in the club will be entirely dependant on how well members follow the rules in place and how restrictive government rules are. We are slowly getting back to some form of normality but we will not return to how things were before, those days are in the past. I will release a video soon explaining more of whats going on. In the mean time look out for an email from good life about how to book a space to use the gym. Thanks

21.01.2022 Nutrition is key to healthy body and even more critical in repair and maintenance after a hard work out. Seeing a nutrition expert for some maintenance of your diet and physical activity is also an exercise wee worth trying. #mintnutrition

20.01.2022 Where do you start in squash? as with any sport learning the basics is key to progressing and developing into a better player. The majority of us are not aiming for the PSA or the top of the premier division, we just want to be competitive and consistent. Watch are see some simple basic routines a solo player can do to improve their court fitness and skill. #Squash #healthyliving #mintnutrition #squashdrills https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyjMBffPVvM

20.01.2022 Hi all, Please note at present I have no new information on when and the conditions of the reopening of Goodlife Alex Hills, being this is a multi sport complex and the large number of members of the club it will be a difficult and logistical challenge to see all departments get equal use. The squash department will face several challenges in reopening as it is unknown presently how our centre fits into the complexes cap on visitors. As the building is one large unit it is m...ore than likely that we will be classified as one entity and the restrictions will pan across all departments (Group Fitness, Tennis, Gym, Classes, Squash and PT). At present it may not be financially viable to reopen the business fully at present. So please hang in there and if you are looking for alternatives please know that all the other independent centres will open as of Tomorrow (June 2nd), you will have to comply with the restrictions and make a booking. When I have some information from Goodlife HQ I will pass it on, but for now we remain closed. Thankyou. See more

20.01.2022 Christopher discusses hydration and its benefits and most importantly for athletes, how to stay hydrated. Hydration is important for all of us no matter what we do, but do you know how much to drink during a day? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFrLEumuNXU&feature=youtu.be

19.01.2022 Squash training is integral to improving your game, time on court is great but you need to ensure that you are focusing your time right when on the court. 18.01.2022 Some highlights from the PSA final Qatar Classic 2020. New Zealand's Paul Coll takes on Ali Farag in Doha. Great match and both players giving there all.. Farag got to the finish line in the end though.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01bYniSPyHI

18.01.2022 What a brutal rally from ElShorbagy and Makin. That ref call at the end though!! Stunning squash from both players...

17.01.2022 Sports and dieting go hand in hand, this method of dietary control is one of the most commonly disused topics with clients. Its important to understand that there is not one size fits all and that each person is unique, what can be said is a diet that is varied and supported with good hydration and exercise will produce the best results.

16.01.2022 What do you fuel your sports addiction with? I love my roasted vegetables and chicken. Feeding a sports person can if not planned cost a small fortune, but with a small amount of effort good quality food can be saught from local suppliers. Farmers markets also offer a great opportunity to snag some great food items.

16.01.2022 Want to improve your squash? Need the edge on court? or simply want to learn the basics? Sounds like some coaching is what you need, or maybe a friend is having a birthday soon and could use a new skill. Hourly rates and package deals available on request. For September a special of 3 sessions for $99 is on offer. Nutritional coaching is also available on request (separate service and fees apply) and more info can be found at Mint Nutrition Qld (https://www.facebook.com/eathealthyfoods4life). Please PM me for more information on either service.

14.01.2022 2021 is here and what a year we could be in for. So a reminder that we all need to covid safe and that includes the visitors and guests to the courts. QLD has enjoyed relative freedom since the reopening of business mid-way through 2020.. Help us to keep it that way by observing some very basic rules that we all should know by now. 1 - Stay at home if you have any symptoms or had a covid test, or even if you feel ill just seek medical advise and stay at home. 2 - Wash, dry an...d sanitise, if you are not doing this already you need to reeducate yourself. Use soap and wash hands properly (get between those fingers). Use sanitiser where needed and ensure to spread it all over your hands. 3 - Practice Social Distancing, keep 1.5m apart when socialising. Obviously, on the court, this is not going to happen, just minimise unwarranted touching. Don't shake hands, don't wipe hands on walls and doors, don't be that person who touches everything. 4 - Sign in and use the Q Code at reception, this is a zero-tolerance point and will be policed by staff, its government legislation put in place to contact trace if we have an incidence of Covid. Don't argue, don't whine, don't abuse, just fill the form out and smile, it's simple. 5 - Bring a towel and any other change of clothing you may need whilst on site. Water bottles too are handly as we don't have water fountains anymore. You can fill your bottle from the bubbler or purchase a bottle of water at reception. remember no towel no train! 6 - Finally wipe down after you, yes that includes the courts (now you know why we don't touch everything, more to clean!). The green sanitising solution is available in the court area as is paper towels, wipe down contact point after your session is over. If you don't think you manage these few things then maybe you should stay at home, remember gym staff are not going out of their way to make life hard, they have your health and safety as a top priority. Happy New Year and enjoy 2021

14.01.2022 Squash is an intense game at higher grades and puts a strain on our body. Remember when doing any physical activity to stay hydrated and have a pre exercise warm up and warm down. What about eating during exercise? This is entirely a personal choice and comes down to several factors such as the intensity of the training and type of training you are doing. Most people will work out for 30-60 mins so eating during exercise is not a concern. Unless you are training very hard you... will ok to have a snack after and before. One food that is very good before and after is berries, these are filled with juice and also many other healthy nutrients such as Vitamin C and phytoflavinoids. So next time you playing squash take a container of blue berries with you, these can be eaten between games or after as tasty treat. Blueberries are abundant in Australia presently so what you waiting far. Image: Stylecraze #mintnutrition #stayhydrated #squashdrills #healthyeating #healthyliving See more

14.01.2022 Hey squash community a shout out To one of our Club members who is participating in a 750 km bike ride for charity. Nuala is looking to raise money for a very worthy cause and is looking for sponsorship. Times are certainly difficult for us all but those with cancer still need to face each day and teh support that is needed is vital, so if you can spare some time have a read and see if you can donate to this great cause.

14.01.2022 Stage 3 restrictions for Queensland is set for July 10th presently, with a looming spread in Victoria this may change depending on how widespread it becomes. It is understandable that members of the facility are frustrated and want to jump back on the court, that is clear and does not need to be highlighted. But, so much hard work has already been done by myself and colleges at the facility that to cut corners now and risk a lengthy closure due to non compliance of Governmen...t regulations and company regulations would be a gross injustice to our members. Please take note of the * next to indoor sports and see that it says it needs approval from health authorities, we currently have a working Covid Safe plan in place that is waiting on approval for stage 3. The courts will reopen under new terms of use, more details will be posted when more is known. For now stay healthy use the gym and keep fit. On a final note please keep complaints and feeling about Goodlife off of this page as this is a community page for squash players in the Redlands, if you have an enquiry please contact the gym directly or drop in and have a chat, accounts can be suspended for up to 4 weeks if you do not see yourself using other facilities. Also remember to play nice the staff are not their to be verbally abused or threatened this situation is not their doing. Many thanks for your patience during this time.

12.01.2022 Good nutrition is the basis of a healthy body, use the correct fuel and you will feel better, perform better and live better. Start simple by trying to get 5 serves of fruits and vegetables in a day.. #mintnutrition

11.01.2022 As per State Government regulation, a three-day Lockdown has been imposed on the Greater Brisbane area. Redlands is part of this area and will be in a state of lockdown from 6pm Friday 8th January 2012 Until 6pm Monday 11th January 2021. Goodlife Alexandra Hills will be closing the club doors at 5pm on Friday 8th and reopen 6pm on the following Monday the 11th. Please note the entire club will be closed including 24-hour access. Please cooperate and help this lockdown be a smooth transition and stay safe.

10.01.2022 A true fact! Stay healthy by eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly, don't use exercise to mask a poor diet. If you need some tip on how to get back on track to have a chat with Conway form #mintnutrition and book in a session to see how you can improve your nutrition status. #mintnutrition #redlandsquashclub #healthyliving #healthyeating

10.01.2022 This here is 4 days of dirt of of the squash courts, it's important to note that indoor court shoes only are to be work on the court. Tracking in dirt from the outside introduces a slipping risk as the courts floor becomes slippery. The paper is a an A3 sheet and as you can see a lot of stones have made it onto the court. Please check your shoes prior to to playing for stones.

10.01.2022 So an update for all the squash players, I have been informed that face masks are not required when playing squash. However, they are too worn in the club right up to when you go on when you finish put it back on again. Please don't wander around the club between games without it on, if you go to the toilet, guess what.. Put your mask on. Remember that the staff at Goodlife have jobs to do and don't want to be abused or treated badly simply because you cant follow the rules. These rules may seem strange to you but so is everything about 2020/21, just wear your mask or stay at home it's pretty simple. Otherwise have a game of squash and smile under that mask. Also if you want a squad mask like in the picture you can get one at Red Bubble.

10.01.2022 Grab a bag and head to the Cleveland markets or any street market for that matter. Support Local businesses and eat healthy local/regional foods, and most of all enjoy your Sunday buy doing what you enjoy with work being banished to Monday day morning. Happy Sunday all...!

09.01.2022 HI All, I am doing a research project on history or Australian supermarkets and consumer purchasing habits since the 1960s. I am after some community help in gathering information, I have added some images of Australian supermarkets and would like to know if anyone remembers these shops, any stories or images you have would also be great. I am looking at how the major brands in Australia has influenced and changed our buying habits over the last 60 years. It is well known th...at Women make up a bulk of the shoppers and even today will be the gender who generally select the foods that a family eat. This has changed somewhat in the last decade but a look back to the mid 60s and you will find a very different story. So have a look through the images and let me know what can and even a story or two so as to help me gather data, Images may not be from this area as I know some are specific to South Australia. One Question though: What food do you remember eating as a child that you cant find anymore? See more

09.01.2022 Due to recent Covid-19 restrictions when you visit the squash courts please ensure you follow the Goodlife entry requirements. That is if you are a visitor you will need to check in with the QR scanner online system. You will also need to bring your own equipment (towel/water bottle/racket/ball), no towel no entry policy is still enforced. Please ensure you follow Covid -19 distance rules when not on court and wipe down the doors of the court and any point of contact on the courts. Most of all if you are sick please stay at home and get well do you can return to squash fit and ready to go.. Thank you Redland Squash Team

09.01.2022 Its not often you see a corkscrew in a PSA match, but when you do they are brilliant. Ramy Ashour does them with ease.. #squashdrills Ramy Ashour Squash Academy #redlandsquashclub

07.01.2022 ***NOTE THAT THE INFO IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE REFER TO QLD GOVERNMENT SITES FOR LATEST COVID RESTRICTIONS*** so the QLD government have given us a road map to opening the sports facilities across our great state, but please note these are the State regulations and Goodlife may decide to add or modify to the rules to fit the companies operation. It is looking like June 13th will be when most sports facilities will open back with Heavy Restrictions in the first month, to be clear ...Continue reading

06.01.2022 2021 is going to be a year to rebuild and reset. Squash at Alexandra Hills will see some changes implemented that will add value to the club and more options to the members, these changes are being looked at now and we invite input from our members and guests. The main change or introduction for 2021 is to start an in house league on a Tuesday night, the key points will be: - Minimal cost to enter and play. - No affiliation cost to governing bodies. - No late nights or travel...ling to faraway centres. - Relaxed fun and open to all levels. - Runs during school term so each season is only 10 weeks max. - Social and geat opportunity to meet other squash players. If you would be interested in joining we will be gathering information and sending out a sign-up form. We look to start this in the first school term of 2021 (27 January - 1st April). If you want to be involved with sponsorship or think you can help in any way please contact Conway at the courts and arrange a meeting. We would ideally like to call this a Redlands Business League and get local businesses to be involved in not only playing but also to assist with sponsorship to help squash grow in teh Redlands.

06.01.2022 Do you warm-up or stretch prior to taking the court? Many scientific papers and a wealth of athletic experience have given sports scientists a huge repository of data to draw from. The warm-up and warm-down are just as important as good nutrition and overall health. Warming up will prime your muscles for the exercise ahead, specifically, it warms the muscles and increases the heart rate to pump nutrient-rich oxygenated blood to the muscles. With squash, the sport is very spo...radic and rellies on huge amounts of force being put core muscle groups. Cold muscles are at risk of rips and micro tares. Consequently, the warm down is just as important so as the muscles can warm down without risk of cramping. Hydration, as discussed in prior posts, is also fundamental in staving off muscle cramps. More in-depth reading on this can be found at Hervard Health: https://www.health.harvard.edu//exercise-101-dont-skip-the See more

05.01.2022 Do you suffer from burnout? does exercise or visiting a sports centre help you get back on track? The ability to manage burnout and fatigue from daily activities comes down to your individual "agency" that is how much control do you have on your environment? Taking up a hobby or sport to unwind and detach from your work/home life maybe a step in the right direction. However just ensure you play sport to have fun and not to vent anger on others, in this instance a walk on the beach or a weekend away on your own maybe better... #mintnutrition

01.01.2022 Keeping Hydrated during exercise is as important as pre and post nutrition, for our bodies to be able to perform optimally it needs the correct fuel. Coming into the warmer months we should be especially aware of the dangers of dehydration, not only during exercise but in every day activities. The average 70 kg human will need approx 2 L of fluids on a normal day, this can increase to 3 or 4 during exercise in extreme conditions. #stayhydrated

01.01.2022 Squash - When played correctly can be a great way to complement a fitness program, Squash offers an aerobic workout due to the steady endurance required to sustain a game, but also an anaerobic workout because of moments of high-intensity play. Mixing aerobic and anaerobic will see a player adapt to the changing game speeds and learn in time to use this to his/her advantage. Squash has been voted and recognised several times as a great and healthy sport that gives an all-round workout, just dont forget to warm up and warm down. Image source: Squash Australia
