19.01.2022 "Luke Nguyen's food has taken us across Vietnam, France, China, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and the United Kingdom. It's fair to say that choosing favourites is going to be challenging... Straight out with it: this list was almost impossible to put together. It's taken ages to decide what recipes to include because they are all favourites - all circa 400 of them. Luke Nguyen has possibly never written a ho-hum recipe in his life. Take, for example, Luke's recipe for Can...tonese fried noodles. It's simple Hong Kong egg noodle and soy dish that's generally served for breakfast but is good any time of the day. It takes less than 15 minutes to prepare. So far, great recipe, but a favourite? SBS Food writer Bron Maxabella randomly made this dish for her children about six months ago and has not escaped a single week since without a kid asking whether it's on the menu tonight. 15.01.2022 Today's COMPLIMENTARY RECIPE is a NOSTALGIC FAVOURITE that EXCITES the SENSES - Tôm Rim - Prawn Sautéed with Tomato, Fish Sauce and Black Pepper - https://bit.ly/3x9BErX Mum used to cook this dish at Pho Cay Du. I remember getting excited every time a customer ordered it - it was the most expensive dish on the menu. Mum would send me across to the fresh fish markets to look for the biggest and freshest jumbo prawn or scampi that I could find. I always thought to myself, why... don’t they just keep a few in the fridge in case we get an order? Sometimes the customer was left waiting for over 20 minutes while I scoured the streets. As I learned later on, the customer never minded waiting as the prawns were so fresh and the flavours so good. The aroma of the sautéed prawns with the tomato has been implanted in my memory. 02.01.2022 Get LUCCY with us TONIGHT! Say hello to our "Bò Lúc Lc", or as we like to call it "Luccy". Wok tossed beef with oyster sauce, sesame and black pepper. A French-inspired Vietnamese dish. The beef is cut into small cubes the size of playing dice (ht lúc lc) before being wok tossed. "Lúc lc" also refers to the back and forth motion of the wok as the beef is seared. Beef used to be a luxury ingredient in Vietnam, where it was mostly served at formal events, such as wedding ba...nquets and anniversaries.
