22.01.2022 Quite like blue tongue lizards, the shinglebacks also have blue tongues to ward off predators. This is due to them both being part of the genus Tiliqua, or blue tongued skinks. Here we have a shingleback lizard (Tiliqua rugosa) found near Millmerran, Qld

15.01.2022 Redleaf Environmental celebrates NAIDOC Week 2020! Across the country NAIDOC Week celebrations will be held from the 8-15 November. This year the national NAIDOC theme ‘Always was. Always will be’ recognises that First Nations peoples have occupied and cared for this continent for more than 65,000 years.... During NAIDOC 2020, we’ll be shining a spotlight on the stories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders as they share their insights and reflections on the significance of ‘Always was. Always will be’ Be sure to use #alwayswasalwayswillbe to share your reflections on the NAIDOC theme and the #deadlystory of your Elders.

13.01.2022 Here are some of the endangered Manning River Turtles we caught during one of our snorkelling efforts on Rowleys River. We had a heap of fun chasing these guys up to 3-4 m depth in the river. You needed big lungs and a good fin kick to catch them. The surveys were funded by the Hunter Local Land Services NSW.

12.01.2022 As part of our Manning River Turtle surveys, we catch fish and crayfish in our nets. These include eel-tailed catfish, flatheaded gudgeons, glassfish and spiny crayfish. #manningriverturtle

11.01.2022 A common Western Lockyer Valley and Darling Downs Wattle, Acacia salicina, Sally wattle, called that as its is a weeping tree somewhat like a Salix, or English Willow. Birds just love the red fleshy aril and then poop out the seed with manure to the ground to germinate :).

09.01.2022 Nothing better than snorkelling for the Endangered Manning River Turtle in NSW. Here are a couple of snaps of Darren and Shannon with some hauls of the endangered turtle. Do you like our camouflaged wetsuits? So we can sneak up on them in the water... The bags are used to hold the turtles when they were being captured (through snorkelling). They were in them temporarily until being transferred to a large tub of water for processing.... All work was undertaken under approved relevant permits and other governmental approvals (including animal ethics permits).

08.01.2022 Lots of Koalas about at the moment, Carers bringing them into care and health checks, and just rescuing them in the wrong areas in the Lockyer.

08.01.2022 Another brick in the wall in our brick series Clayton & Co produced a patented brick press in 1821 that could produce more than 20,000 bricks in one day. This particular brick was found in north Toowoomba. ... It is still unknown whether a Clayton & Co Patented brick press ever arrived in Australia, or just the bricks themselves.

07.01.2022 Releasing an Endangered Manning River Turtle back into the Barrington River, NSW.

07.01.2022 Be on the look out for Fireweed, it hasn't done well this year as we have had a rather warm winter, but its still about. Most folk think that if the yellow flower has 13 petals that's the weed one, but sorry to say many native ones have 13 petals too. Its more to do with the leaf, the weed has a long narrow leaf with small serrated edges to the leaf but the native one had strongly divided leaves that are very fine.

04.01.2022 Great Helidon Hills walk yesterday in the rain with 12 dedicated nature lovers, butterfly people, flora, fauna folks etc.

01.01.2022 All in all these are not just another brick in the wall One of our ecologists, Kaitlyn, found some locally-made late 19th Century bricks in her own backyard! Here's some of what we found out:
