25.01.2022 One of the things Red Nose hears most often from bereaved parents is how they wish that people could find ways to talk about the death of a child. The stigma that society sadly creates around miscarriage, stillbirth and the sudden unexpected death of a young child can compound the grief that parents are already feeling. It’s so important that we can have these conversations honestly, openly and lovingly. To know that people understand your situation and are supportive is ve...ry meaningful for bereaved parents. We offer our condolences to Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, and her husband Prince Harry, who has bravely shared her own story of loss. Her experiences are shared by so many in our community. To learn more about what bereaved parents wish that others would remember, please visit our Guiding Light Support Library: http://ow.ly/GSZX50Cvb2f

23.01.2022 Red Nose has launched an online chat service to help support our community through bereavement. Bereaved families can talk confidentially with a Red Nose team member who can offer advice and much-needed support. Plus we can help extended family members understand how to support their families who have experienced the death of a child or pregnancy loss. The service is also available for people who would like to connect with a trained grief and loss counsellor or peer suppo...rt professional, or who would like to find out more about Red Nose’s services. It provides a safe and simple pathway to engage with Red Nose’s programs. You can chat on Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 10 am and 3pm (AEST) and connect with Red Nose in real-time from anywhere in Australia. To chat with us, please visit: https://rednosegriefandloss.org.au/ (If you need to speak to someone now, please call our 24/7 Support Line on 1300 308 307.)

21.01.2022 For parents who have experienced the loss of a baby this year, COVID-19 has meant that their bereavement has been impacted in unforeseen ways. When we can't meet up with families and friends, the effect on grief and loss can be profound. As part of the global 'Cocoon' study, the Centre of Research Excellence in Stillbirth is asking families to share their experience of bereavement during COVID-19, with the aim of improving support for families worldwide. If you would like t...o participate in the 'Cocoon' study, please visit: http://ow.ly/aAL250CpFm2. #COCOONGlobal

20.01.2022 After about six months my eldest son Pat, who was six years old at the time, started weekly counselling too. She helped him work through how he was feeling and he then went on to the school holiday program with other children who had lost their siblings. Then in turn our second son Joe also joined the sessions when he turned five a couple of years later. ... I truly cannot express how important counselling was for our family. The devastating grief of losing a child affects the whole family and never truly goes away. But you can help make sure that every parent and sibling has the support they need to keep moving forward as a family. Give generously today, before June 30, to keep counselling available and free for anyone who needs it. Donate now https://redno.se/taxappeal

15.01.2022 When your life has been impacted by the sudden or unexpected death of a baby or child, the stresses of everyday life that you might normally take in your stride can seem much harder to bear. We'll support you through the deep sadness of your loss, but also through the frustration, irritability and overwhelm that often accompanies it because we know these lesser recognised impacts can be just as challenging to bear. You can give us a call at any time, on any day of the year or visit our comprehensive support library at www.rednosegriefandloss.org.au

09.01.2022 I won $10,000! Catherine from Albany is the latest winner of the Red Nose WA Raffle, taking home an amazing $10,000 cash! We asked Catherine why she supports the work of Red Nose and what she might do with her winnings. I’ve been buying Red Nose raffle tickets regularly for many years now. Having worked as a midwife and now a child health nurse, I know how important safe sleeping education is for new parents to keep their baby safe.... Red Nose not only provide great information on keeping baby safe, they also provide vital support for families that have lost a child. I am lucky to have 3 healthy children, but I have known families that have lost children to SIDS and SUDI. It’s just devastating for families. Anything that can reduce the risk of babies dying unexpectedly is money well spent, which is why I’ve always been happy to buy a raffle ticket. I was absolutely surprised when I got a phone call saying I’d actually won! I’ve been thinking about spending the money on a new laundry sink and bench as well as a garden overhaul. I’d like to thank Red Nose for all the information they provide for professionals and parents, and the support they provide for grieving families. And I’ll keep buying my raffle tickets to support their important work!" The next WA raffle is now open! If you live in WA, get your lucky ticket today https://rednosewa.auraffles.com.au/purchase-tickets

02.01.2022 The sexual side of our relationship has changed. It’s something that happens to many bereaved couples, but it can be one of the most difficult things to talk about. People who are grieving frequently experience a change in sexual feelings and responsiveness. For some, sexual feelings disappear altogether while for others they intensify. Intimacy offers some couples much needed comfort while others feel out of sync or mismatched. ... Although there can be a period of instability, distress and communication problems, most relationships do recover the same level of intimacy that they had before.
