11.01.2022 H is for humpback whale! It’s breaking my heart at the moment witnessing (via the news) the biggest mass stranding of whales ever in Australia happening in Tasmania right now..... they are pilot whales and hundreds of them have died while rescuers work around the clock to save as many as they can. It’s an absolute tragedy. There’s nothing we can do to help these whales but there’s a lot we can all do to help protect whales in general so let’s use this as a... reminder to do whatever we can to protect our oceans. Some simple ideas we can all do easily: - donate to ocean conservation charities - eat less fish and do your research to make sure you only eat sustainable seafood - see @goodfishproject - reduce your plastic consumption - switch to eco-friendly detergents - use shampoo bars and soap instead of ones in plastic bottles. - collect your soft plastic to recycle at the supermarket instead of putting it in the bin where it may end up in the ocean. - remember to keep your reusable shopping bags and coffee cups handy (store some in the car so you always have them) It might be hard to save the planet but it’s easy for us all to make tiny changes as individuals that help... as best we can, let’s be part of the solution, not adding to the problem. I am sad for the whales, but let’s do something positive with our grief and keep fighting for a better world! Did you know that cougar kittens are born with lots of spots but they fade as they grow up until they are one coloured? ... True story: once when I was hiking in the US I saw cougar tracks on the path. I was alone and scared and spent the rest of the hike carrying a big stick and talking loudly to myself so as to alert any hidden cougars to my presence... 02.01.2022 Friends of Red Parka and the forests, we’re having the biggest sale we’ve ever had with ALL proceeds being donated to The Bob Brown Foundation’s Save Takayna fund! We have a huge amount of seconds (minor faults because I’m a perfectionist!), loads of soon to be discontinued items, heaps of art prints and also lots of sale items because we want to clear out our warehouse and do something good for the world while we’re at it!
