18.01.2022 My favourite bush tucker, the Midyim Berry. . . #midyimberry #bushtucker #perthnursery #mundaring @ Mundaring, Sawyers Valley

17.01.2022 The Midyim Berry has to be one of the sweetest of the Bush Tucker plants we have here in Australia. You’ll find it growing naturally along the coast of northern NSW to southern QLD. Each year it’ll put on a magnificent display of small white flowers followed by soft white berries with blue-black speckles. It has a low-growing habit and makes a good living, and edible, groundcover. At our nursery we have it growing under a load of espaliered apple trees. It is a hardy plant that tolerates sandy soils and I have seen it doing very well in heavier clay soils also. The Water Corporation of WA consider it to be a waterwise plant. The Midyim Berry can be planted in full or part-shade, and can be easily trimmed to keep it under control. . . #bushtucker #redplanetplants #berry #ediblenatives

14.01.2022 The leaves of the Indian Bean Tree, Catalpa bignonioides, are starting to fall. Perhaps a sign that Autumn is here. . . #autumn #catalpa #indianbeantree #redplanetplants #permacultureplants #perthnursery #mundaring

07.01.2022 I'd like to introduce you to the Queensland Bottle Tree, Brachychiton rupestris. This is a very versatile plant that has been used by Aboriginal people for food, fibre. The seeds, about the size of pine nuts, can be roasted and eaten, and the roots of young trees can also be eaten. Secretions from wounding the trunk can be used as a sort of high-energy drink. To make it through the dry times, water is stored in the trunk and was a known source of water by Aboriginal people.... Nets were made from the fibrous bark for catching fish. A very different tree to have as it has a bulging trunk. hence Bottle Tree. We have some available at the moment in 6L pots for $20. Shoot me a message to arrange a time visit the nursery and take one home.
