19.01.2022 Our theatre may be dark but we’ve got a long history of nearly two decades to draw on, and we will see you again soon! In the meantime, a retrospective... Red Stitch’s first production in early 2002, Inkerman St, St Kilda: Extremities by William Mastrosimone, directed by Greg Ulfan. Featuring original ensemble members Kate Cole, David Whiteley, Ella Caldwell and Lisa Reynolds.

19.01.2022 To support our peers in need, we’ve joined other theatre companies in the VABT’s "The Curtain Will Rise Again" campaign. Each year, the VABT raises much needed funds through in-person bucket rattles at performances. With theatres dark across the state, they’re going virtual and holding the biggest Bucket Rattle in VABT history. Tomorrow, the 12th of May, help the VABT continue to support Victorian Artists and Crew who are experiencing a health crisis or medical emergency. Proceeds will also go towards the COVID-19 emergency assistance fund. If you’re in a position to donate, head to https://vabt.com.au/donate/ for more information. #VABT #BigBucketRattle #charity #fundraiser #volunteer #CreativeVic #CreativeVictoria #arts #theatre #film #tv

07.01.2022 Throwback to 2003, when we first moved into the little place that we now call home. We’d grown out of our previous digs and needed an upgrade. A lot of elbow grease and help from friends and family that summer transformed it from a dusty hall into the cosy theatre it is now. #melbourne #redstitchactorstheatre @ Red Stitch: The Actors' Theatre

06.01.2022 Single Ladies by Michele Lee suspended until further notice. --------- Our thoughts are with you all during this very challenging time and we hope that you and your loved ones are well. We have been greatly appreciative of your support over the years, and want to let you know how we are adjusting our plans in response to these strange and disconcerting events.... We are currently reviewing our schedule in response to COVID-19 health concerns and the implications for the broader community. It is with great regret that we have decided to suspend our world premiere season of Single Ladies by Michele Lee until further notice. It is especially heartbreaking to have to suspend a wonderful new Australian play, with the years of work that have been put into its development through our INK program. Our venue capacity is less than 100 people, which is the currently mandated limit for non-essential gatherings. However, the safety of our community is our priority, and following advice from Federal and State governments regarding preventative social distancing and taking steps to ‘flatten the curve’, we have decided this is the most responsible course of action. We are also supporting our staff to work from home. The impact of closures and postponement of activities is heavily impacting the entire Arts sector. For Red Stitch, which receives only 10% of its income through government funding, the effect on the company and the hundreds of artists we work with each year will be unprecedented. We will keep you updated on further changes as they become necessary, including the rescheduling of future events. Ticket sales and philanthropic support make up the vast majority of our company's income, and we are deeply grateful to those of you who have opted to donate the price of your ticket to the company. Such goodwill and generosity have an even greater impact in times like these. That being said, we understand that not everyone is in a position to donate. If you require a credit for a future Red Stitch production or a refund, please be patient as our small staff processes your request. We will be in touch in the near future, or you are welcome to contact us on [email protected] or on 03 9533 8082 for further information. Please take care, and we look forward to seeing you again in person. While we are facing many challenges over the coming months, our absence on the stage doesn't mean we've stopped working. We will continue to innovate and reflect and act - the arts is of the greatest importance in times of major upheaval. We will respond and come back galvanized, and reunite with you in better days.. Love, The Red Stitch Ensemble.

06.01.2022 Iphigenia in Splott, directed by Gary Abrahams is almost fully sold out for the week! Make sure you book your tickets now for the final two weeks to avoid disappointment. Strictly limited season until 18 July. Book your tickets now via https://www.redstitch.net/iphigenia-in-splott-2021 Rehearsal photo of Jessica Clarke taken by Darcy Kent.

04.01.2022 Spirits were up at last week's ensemble meeting, thanks to a visit from Production Manager extraordinaire, Greg Clarke. Greg is moving on from his position but we will see him at Red Stitch again, and we have a lot of things to celebrate him for! Thanks Greg, and Happy Easter all.

03.01.2022 "Clarke handles the grungy poetry and adrenalin-fuelled narrative with magnetic presence and remorseless stamina, delivering all the gutsiness and sly humour, the agony and unexpected beauty of Owen’s monologue in an impeccable lower-class Welsh accent." Cameron Woodhead - THE AGE. Read the full review here https://www.theage.com.au//grungy-visceral-theatre-shows-u Book your tickets now to this unmissable show. Get your tickets via https://www.redstitch.net/iphigenia-in-splott-2021 Strictly limited season that runs until 18 July. Rehearsal photo of Jessica Clarke by Darcy Kent.

02.01.2022 Coronavirus safety update: As a precaution, we have switched to single-use disposable tickets at front of house and have placed hand sanitiser in various locations around the foyer. We will also be sanitising the theatre auditorium and seating bank in between performances. We remind our audiences of the recommended hygiene practices that include regular washing of hands with soap and water, and drying thoroughly.... Please use the crook of your elbow to cough or sneeze, and dispose of any tissues you may need to use in the sealed bins at front of house. And, of course, if you are experiencing any cold and flu-like symptoms please contact box office to move your booking to a later date in the season. Many thanks - The Red Stitch Ensemble
