21.01.2022 Christmas Day looks different for everyone, but we can all be mindful in our own ways. For some, it’s a spiritually significant occasion where thoughts are directed to faith. For others, it’s about family, summer, food, and festivities. There are also those who struggle with grief and loneliness over Christmas and find it hard to be joyous. Whatever the day looks like for you, how can you be mindful of your situation, and of others? Here are some examples:... If you usually overindulge with food, and have feelings of regret or guilt afterward, can you bring your attention back to your body and listen to your hunger cues before and during meals? If you have a friend or neighbour with no family to celebrate with them, can you think of ways to include them in your celebrations? If you aren’t looking forward to the family catchup or a certain person who you’ll be seeing, can you have a plan to ensure a peaceful visit/interaction? If you usually feel down or lonely on Christmas, are you able to prepare for ways you might still be able to enjoy the day? If you get caught up in the gifts and don’t get what you wanted, can you take some time to consider how you can show gratitude for all that you do have? Feel free to share any ways you intend to be mindful, and have a very merry, (mindful) Christmas everyone.

17.01.2022 As a ‘new to the scene’ health coach, this is probably my most frequently asked question so far. 16.01.2022 We can’t always control our environment or surroundings, but we can certainly control our responses to them. As we head into the festive season - Routines change, we interact with people we wouldn’t normally, and stress levels can increase with busyness and preparations. However, if we are regularly checking in with ourselves, we can remain peaceful in our hearts and minds. A helpful little reminder is:... Don’t react...Respond.

15.01.2022 As part of some training I’m taking part in, I’m conducting research and would to ask some questions. If you are FEMALE and have had any struggles with food or body image now or in the past, I’d love to hear from you. Also, if you are a MOTHER and have any struggles with looking after your health while parenting, I’d also like to hear from you - ie nutrition, physical activity, sleep, rest, balance, stress, etc.... Send me a message and we’ll go from there

15.01.2022 Firstly, what does self care look like for you? As many are still on holiday, or out of a regular routine at least - do you find that your self care habits get thrown by the wayside? Have you found yourself saying ‘I’ll take care of myself after my holiday, or I’ll get back into it when I’m back at work? ... Self care for me is not luxury grooming like bubble baths or pedicures or massages. While all those things are wonderful ways to feel refreshed and improve our mood, they’re not always affordable (or practical). Self care habits can be as simple as choosing to make a nutritious dinner instead of skipping it, or finding 5 minutes to do a body weight workout while the kids climb on you. It could be starting the day without the phone until you’ve taken 20 long deep breaths and set your intentions for the day. Or could be reading a chapter of a book or doing a chore now to save yourself the burden later. Self care can happen anytime, anywhere. All that is required is a choice made by your current self to support the health of your future self. What can you do today, wherever you are, to take care of your self? #selfcare #redwoodwellbeing #healthcoach #healthcoaching #healthy #lifestyle #wellbeing #care #selflove #discipline #kindness #nutrition #holiday #routine

12.01.2022 You’ve all heard the term ‘Gut Health’ by now right? What do you know about the incredible ecosystem that is bacteria in your gut, and are your nutrition choices this Winter encouraging healthy gut microbiota? Put simply, Probiotics are the ‘good’ bacteria in your gut, and Prebiotics promote the good bacteria, reducing toxins.... Now is the perfect time to ensure that this Winter is filled with all the gut goodness for optimal nutritional health. Here are a few ways you can include prebiotics and probiotics into your warm winter meals. Include vegetables from the Lily family into your slow cooked meal or soup - onions, garlic, leeks, asparagus. Increase your dietary fibre intake, though ensure to do it gradually, so as to not overwhelm the bacterial system. Hearty foods such as potatoes in your casserole, whole grain bread with your soup, or oven baked broccoli & carrots with your roast lamb. Add natural yogurt and nuts and seeds as toppings to your hot berry crumble dessert. Get fermenting! Yogurt, Sauerkraut, Tempeh, Kombucha or Pickling are just some of the options to get those dietary probiotics in. Cook a red Lentil curry Dahl If you’d like support with your gut health, or would like to learn more, get in touch with Alyssa at Redwood Wellbeing.
