22.01.2022 Hi guys, its certainly been a while since I've posted much content on here! For those unaware, we've been going through some difficult times living just across the border and working in S.A. I must first thank all those that have supported us through this, its been quite tough at times but we've managed to plug along together and we are very grateful for the understanding our clients have shown. So, Thank you guys!! ... Personally, I've used this time to "hit the drawing board" so to speak, and reflect on my work to refine my process. I feel ive learned a lot over this time which is being reflected in the results from new treatment processes. I'm hoping to get right back into sharing this knowledge through content on the page, so keep an eye out for more posts soon. Lately I have noticed significant improvements in treatments relating to hip function, lymphatic issues and neuromuscular connection, just to name a few. The time to reflect and adjust has been valuable however I can feel it's now time to put it all into practice, and share the information so we can all benefit. If you haven't been in for a while, now might be a great time for a tune up and see what the new and improved treatment process can do for you.

21.01.2022 Neuro-Muscular Psychology. Part 1 This is a term I’ve completely made up my self. it is simply the title I found that best describes the technique I use to re-map the way we use our muscles, in a subconscious manner, through tapping into the psychology of habit forming in the brain. Humans are incredibly habitual creatures and modern life only adds to this with work tasks often being quite repetitive in nature. This lends us to use our bodies in a limited range of motion and... very imbalanced in terms of muscular use and movement. The results of this create weakened areas in the body which are prone to damage and subsequently pain responses being constantly delivered to the brain. I’ve found one of the best ways to combat chronic pain is to create new neural pathways that use the body in a more balanced way. The new, or newly remembered, neural pathways give access to muscles that are weak and not often used. With renewed neuro-muscular connection it is now possible to strengthen these weak areas to bring balance to the body and allow proper usage of the body, decreasing pain responses and adding muscular endurance through added strength. I’ve had great success with my clients using this technique and I believe it is because this is an approach that addresses issues from the root cause and helps to create long lasting results through simply achieving balance within the body. Stay tuned for part 2 of this post where I will describe the process involved in the technique in more detail.

15.01.2022 Reprogram your body If you want to change the way your body moves, you first need to create new neural pathways to facilitate the movement patterns. This is a crucial first step that I believe is often missed in traditional treatments. It seems complicated however it is really quite simple. We learn our movement patterns through constant repetition, so it makes sense that we can change and re-learn better movement patterns through the same process.... At this phase, consistency is key to the successful adoption of a new neural pathway or movement pattern. By practicing simple movement patterns daily you can quite quickly change the way your body moves. This can be extremely beneficial for people suffering from persistent discomfort due to repetitive work tasks and also works quite well to reactivate weakened muscles, like the glutes and lower core, caused by sitting for extended periods. As a part of the service we provide, individualised movement routines are worked out for each client depending on their bodies needs and every new movement is first practiced under supervision to ensure the client understands exactly how to do the movements that will help aid their recovery / progress.

09.01.2022 Repetitive strain injuries By far, this is the most common reason for the discomfort or dysfunction that most of my clients initially present with. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to see how repeating the same movements in a limited overall range of motion, day in day out, will eventually cause some parts of the body to be worn from over use while other parts suffer from a lack of regular usage.... This pattern quickly creates imbalance within the body which is compensated for, often subconsciously. Take leaning on one side of your hip for example or sleeping in strange twisted up positions just to get comfortable.. these are examples of the compensations the body creates to avoid overloading weak areas as doing so makes us feel uncomfortable. Unfortunately these compensative movement patterns create problems them selves, and thus the cycle continues. To stop the cycle and wind things back, balance needs to be achieved in our daily movement patterns. In the case of having a job or regular work tasks that involve a heavy usage of one particular body area, I have found great benefit in creating simple routines that work to strengthen the opposing muscle structures to those being used at work. With a more balanced usage of the entire body you can see a reduction in discomfort and dysfunction giving you a better body, and headspace, to do the things that will help to keep the progress going like regular exercise, be it organised or incidental.

02.01.2022 Neuromuscular Psychology Part 2 To effectively overcome issues resulting from chronic misuse of the body we need to re-write some of the neural pathways that we are using daily. It is the movements we do each day that create our physical state. If you have a job or hobby that involves repetitive movements in a restricted range of motion, chances are you understand the dysfunction that can come from this. Unfortunately there are many cases where the damage done by repetitive, ...Continue reading
