06.04.2022 GOLD in DIFFERENT DIRT !!!??? - detail below CRACKING the PROSPECTING Code: Brilliant course last night everyone. Good to have a full class.... ...and remember, not all DIRT was created EQUAL !!! Your 'Cz' and 'Q' dirts are mostly equally GOOD dirts,... just different ages,.... but nuggets in BOTH,..... HOWEVER,.... 'Qa' areas need to be treated with more care. Alluvial 'dirt' can be a barrier between you and the 'good dirt' (residual) below. Don't forget you can still try your deeper settings and larger coils to punch through the Qa. If your map looks like this,... you should havea reasonable idea if the dirt is shallow or potentially deep.... let me know if you need help remembering the answer to this. Looking forward to seeing nugget hauls for the next 13years :-)

14.03.2022 SALT n PEPPER - GOLD SPOT or NOT ????? CRACKING the PROSPECTING Code: PRESS 'LIKE' if reading this helps. ... What on earth does 'look for salt n pepper to find gold' mean and how can this crazy sentence be one that thousand of prospectors have used to help them find GOLD areas ???? What are they talking about??? 'Salt and Pepper': the strict definition that this is referring to are areas where there is a noticeable amount of quartz 'FLOAT',.... pieces of quartz Veining scattered all over the ground :-) It is common for these areas of Quartz-Veining rock fragments (white rocks - salt) to ALSO have many rocks on the surface (rock 'float') that are IRON RICH (Ironstone),.... the black rocks (pepper). Quartz + Iron-rich rocks = Salt and Pepper OK... but does this mean there is guaranteed gold in the ground at these spots???? ..... NO,.... it definately does NOT mean that if you keep detecting long enough your going to find nuggets. Is it a good 'starting point' to find gold?? ... MAYBE,.... but there are many areas,..... thousands that have the WRONG GEOLOGY that will never have any gold deposits and no nuggets..... too many. Salt n Pepper as your only indication of what to 'look for' to find gold will unfortunatly most times produce no nuggets. BUT,.... the MAJORITY of gold gets into rocks within Quartz Veining,... so it's only logical that if there is a lot of quartz float scattered all over the ground, then these should be a good place to look,... and that is CORRECT !!! However, all rocks in the Goldfields have had MULTIPLE generations of faulting and deformation associated with abundant NON-GOLD BEARING Quartz-Veining. As a general rule, MOST Quartz-Veining is NOT associated with gold which is why there is far too many areas of SALT n PEPPER that doesn't have any gold,... and to make matters worse,... MANY of the GOLD BEARING Quartz-Veins are RICH in the iron-oxide minerals with very little quartz,.... and it is MANY of these areas that often have NO QUARTZ FLOAT on the surface. The main message here is to not just restrict yourself to just a limited way of looking for gold areas, as this will limit the gold you will ever be able to find. As many that have completed the Prospecting Course will know, the more ways you have to identify the different areas that have gold, the GREATER chances you will have to finding more gold. But don't stop looking at areas with Salt n Pepper,.... these CAN have nuggets and the reverse is also very true that the gold in some areas is only where there is Salt n Pepper.

23.01.2022 CRACKING THE PROSPECTING CODE: GREAT course tonight everyone !!!! ...and remember, "Gold rides into Town on an Iron Horse " !!!!!! :-)... Here's another good example of a IRON-OXIDE rich vein that was loaded with nuggets. The iron-oxide portions of the vein that is on the surface may rust away (weathering) much faster than the quartz portions,.... hence 'Salt and Pepper' .... leaving almost only quartz,... but don't be afraid to spend some time CRACKING some quartz rocks on the surface to see what it looks like inside.

21.01.2022 SPOTTING GOLD AREAS IN 'OLD' CREEKS !!! CRACKING THE PROSPECTING CODE: Gold wants to 'settle-out' from a flowing creek the 1st chance it gets,.... remember, the Specific Gravity of gold is a whooping 19.32 !!!! and it doesn't like to travel if it doesn't have to !! :-)... Areas with nice sandy banks / bars are usually the LAST spot gold would be found, whereas the areas of more IRREGULAR rock / pebble sizes indicates a 'drop in the energy' of the water flowing down a creek, which in turn allows the gold to settle-down and accumulate. Traditional / 'text-book examples' are often very hard to find in the 'real world', so what do you look for to have a much greater chance of finding gold,... look into the sides of the creek banks. Areas that show layers of the 'mixed' rocks are quite often the historical locations of the low energy spots where the creek previously flowed. I found this great example in one of the prospecting Facebook pages (sorry, can't remember which one now, but have a look through some of these pages as there's some really good ones out there!!!). I always run my detector over these spots in the creek banks, as these can not just have some old hidden nuggets, but these areas will always pre-date industrial times, so no trash :-). 20.01.2022 COPPER & GOLD are GREAT MATES !!!!. (Press LIKE if this info BELOW is helpful or comments about any topics you'd like discussion). YES, if a geology map indicates a location of old copper workings there is a VERY HIGH chance for GOLD!!!!. It's not ALWAYS guaranteed, but where there is old Copper workings it is a GREAT place to go looking for GOLD !!!! :-)... The 'surface expression' of copper is almost always the copper-carbonate minerals,... the two (2) most common are: GREEN: MALACHITE BLUE: AZURITE These are not subtle looking minerals and are usually very distinctive in appearance. Some small tips are: 1) If the GREEN colour in a rock is 'within' another mineral it is usually NOT a copper oxide (MALACHITE). This is usually CLAY minerals (i.e. chlorite). 2) if BLUE & GREEN minerals are BOTH present in a rock, then it is almost always the presence of copper-carbonate minerals ,.... and a huge potential for GOLD NUGGETS !!! :-)

12.01.2022 CRACKING THE PROSPECTING CODE: All the 'Different Rocks' of 'Different Ages' occur TOGETHER and have been given local 'names' for the respective areas, like the goldfields in Western Australia is geologically known as the 'Yilgarn Craton'. This is done to simplify the way to reference different geological areas quickly. Below is Geology regions summary map of W.A. to help with knowing some of these names that are referring to different areas in which the rocks are all similar (and usually very different to the surrounding areas).

10.01.2022 What to look for !!!! The appearance of gold bearing quartz veins can vary enormously, HOWEVER there ARE some really good indicators that may be visible to keep a ln eye open for,.... MANGANESE-OXIDE minerals. ... These BLACK, Metallic looking areas of these quartz Veining is produced by the oxidation of minerals that are often exclusively associated with gold bearing quartz veins and IF PRESENT, are often a fantastic sign that gold can be present and DEFINITELY worthy of crushing and panning some to look for some shinny yellow !!! :-).
