25.01.2022 Don’t forget to have your say on our plans to protect the Great Barrier Reef for the next 30 years. The Queensland and Australian governments are reviewing the ...Reef 2050 Long-Term Sustainability Plan to ensure that it continues to focus on the right priorities and actions to support the health and resilience of the Reef. The draft updated Reef 2050 Plan includes a greater emphasis on climate change and its impact on the Reef. It also seeks to empower communities to take stronger action to protect the Reef. The Reef is under significant pressure but with strong local, national and global action to address the greatest threats, it can be sustained as a living natural and cultural wonder of the world. Consultation on the draft plan closes on 30 September 2020. Have your say at https://haveyoursay.awe.gov.au/reef-2050-plan #Reef2050Plan

19.01.2022 We are excited! One month to go til the Aussie Backyard Bird Count! Australia’s largest annual bird count event is back for its 7th year! Held between 192...5 October, the Aussie Backyard Bird Count is a great way to connect with the birds in your backyard, no matter where your backyard happens to be. You can count in a suburban backyard, a local park, a patch of forest, down by the beach, or the main street of town. In fact, you don't even have to leave home, making it the ultimate Covid-safe activity! To take part all you need is 20 minutes and your favourite outdoor space. Not only will you be contributing to BirdLife Australia's knowledge of Aussie birds, but there are also some great prizes on offer. Head over to the Aussie Backyard Bird Count website and register as a Counter today! https://aussiebirdcount.org.au/ The yearly bird count gives us a snapshot in time of bird numbers around the nation so if you’ve participated before and are raring to go remember the app doesn’t kick in until the count begins on 19 October (one month to go!). #AussieBirdCount See more

14.01.2022 Happy Father's Day (cue the Dad jokes!) Here in #Australia there are some fantastic #wildlife fathers, read more about them below 1 Emu - Dad incubates the ...egg without drinking, feeding, defecating or leaving the nest. Chicks stay with their father for around four months. 2 Giant Water Bugs - not only does the male carry all the fertilised eggs upon his back, he strokes them lovingly with his back legs to ensure a steady flow of fresh water passes over them. 3 Seahorses - after the mama seahorse deposits eggs into his pouch, it’s dad who fertilises, incubates and gives birth to their offspring. 4 Cassowary - Dad incubates and guards the eggs for 50 days, then raises the chicks solely. Tag your special Dad and share your best dad jokes with us in the comments below! What is our favourite Dad joke... What do you call a lazy baby kangaroo? 12.01.2022 [REEFBITES ALERT] 2020 has been one of the most difficult years for humanity not only because we are facing a worldwide pandemic but also because many of our UN...'s Biodiversity targets were not met. Specifically for the coral community, we are saddened that Target 10: By 2015, the multiple anthropogenic pressures on coral reefs, and other vulnerable ecosystems impacted by climate change or ocean acidification are minimized, so as to maintain their integrity and functioning, was not met in either 2015 nor 2020. Read our latest article by Carla Elliff to learn more about these targets and how we're moving forward.
