16.01.2022 Kickstarter exists to make ideas into reality. It’s where creators share new visions for creative work with the communities that will come together to fund them. The MOUA - Museum of Underwater Art is reaching out to give people the opportunity to bring an underwater sculpture 'Coral greenhouse' by Jason deCaires Taylor to life with planting of coral, research and merchandise. In this challenging time we try new ideas. If you are inspired about the reef and art please donate what you can. https://www.kickstarter.com//bringing-an-underwater-sculpt

14.01.2022 A very low tide at Orpheus Island Research Station is the best time to learn about clam research and history. With Vicki Saylor. Did you know from 1985 to 1992 mass-cultured giant clams at OIRS supported the development of hatcheries in the Pacific Islands and the Philippines? Did you know the They can grow to 137 centimetres and approx 250kg

13.01.2022 Fish spawning closures on the Great Barrier Reef from 12 (today) to 16 November 2020. Great photo of Moon or Crescent wrasse (Thalassoma lunar). For the fish fanatics this species is a protogynous hermaphrodite, starting off as female and changing to male, a process which takes only 10 days. Some moon wrasses live in groups consisted of a dominant male, and a "harem" of about a dozen other wrasses, some female and some male. The alpha male is more brightly colored, and at ev...ery low tide hour, changes from green to blue, and goes into a show of attacking and nipping all the other wrasses. This is his way of showing his dominance to the rest of the males and keeping the females in check. During breeding season and before high tide, the alpha male turns completely blue, gathers up every single female, and the spawning frenzy begins. I am sure we will see this species at Orpheus Island Research Station this coming weekend.
