23.03.2022 This could be you! Most of our vets that attend the Tiwi program have never met each other and by the end of the trip have formed friendships to last a life time. EOI for our 4-day Tiwi Island program is now open for the whole of May. It will be open to veterans and frontline personnel Australia wide and dates are TBC in Oct. It's easy to apply fill in our online application form. So, if you know someone that would benefit from the trip, please encourage them to apply. The...re is no charge to attend. Interstate veterans will need to pay own way to top end and RV will cover all accommodation while here. (This is not a mates fishing trip we bring together veterans that do not know each other to help them share their stories. Make sure you tell us about yourself in the application. No fishing experience needed and looking for more ladies this year) https://form.jotform.com/221278356130855 See more

It’s been a long year so far and there are a lot of vets and police doing it tough. Please reach out to a mates, we don’t stand alone on the battlefield and let’s not stand alone when battling our demons. #lookoutforamate #reelingveterans #veteranshelpingveterans

25.01.2022 RV has help a lot of veterans over in Townsville. Next year our RV Vice President is getting posted to Townsville, great timing as we are also looking into expanding into the north Qld area. So, Jarrod has a question for you. Wanting to establish how many Reeling Veterans members live over in Townsville/Cairns. I am keen to see what the interest would be like for conducting activities much like what is occurring in Darwin for the Townsville/Cairns area. ... I arrive next week on posting and look forward to a few get togethers if the interest is there.

24.01.2022 Latest on lookdown. RV will work with the NT Government to get veterans out on the water again. This week I thought it would give me a chance to do all my end of finical year paper work however it has shown me just how much we are needed. I can't say this enough make sure you check in with you friends regardless if the are veterans. Stay safe wherever you are. #reelingveterans #checkonyourmates #veteranshelpingveterans

22.01.2022 RV goal is to help Veterans that are struggling for what other reason. However we are limited due to our size and location, and we just can't help everyone. With 8 veteran suicides in the last 3 weeks and with Christmas coming up now is the time to check in with your mates. #checkonmates #reelingveterans #veteranshelpingveterans

14.01.2022 Last night I was contacted by several people looking for help on how to start the conversation with someone that they are worried about. It’s sad to say but for another veteran the internal battle is over. It’s not an easy thing to do starting the conversation however here are a few pointers to help you out. Pick an environment where the person will feel comfortable so you can talk without distractions. Try and find a quiet place with a relaxed atmosphere. Some ideas such as:... A nice place to go for a walk in a park or along the beach Catch up for a coffee Go for a drive Do an activity together you know they usually enjoy such as kicking a football or going fishing so that you can talk while the focus is not entirely on them. Start the conversation by telling them that you have noticed that they don’t seem their usual self and describe the changes you’ve noticed in their mood or behaviour. Tell them you are worried about them and ask about what is bothering them. Some phrases that might help you get started: You don’t seem yourself lately, what’s going on? Tell me about what is going on? What’s happening for you? I’ve noticed you haven’t been going out lately, is there anything you’d like to talk about? Listen carefully to what they are saying. Encourage them to talk about what is really going on for them and how they are feeling. Try not to interrupt while they are talking and leave any comments or queries you may have until they have finished. Some phrases that may be useful in encouraging them to talk about how they are really feeling while showing you care: Take your time, there is no rush. I know it can be difficult to talk about this. I can hear that you have been going through a really tough time. Please tell me more about it so I can understand. Some of the things they tell you may be worrying or overwhelming to hear. Try to stay calm and not over react to what they are saying as this could cause more stress and worry for them. Reassure them they are not alone, and there is hope that things can get better. Be patient and understanding. It is important to remember that setbacks will occur. Help them overcome any setbacks and ask questions such as What can I do to support you with this? Checking in with them frequently to see how they are going. This shows that you care about them and provides an opportunity to talk. #checkonmates #reelingveterans #veteranshelpingveterans

06.01.2022 Yesterday we went looking for our true love the mighty barramundi for Valentine's Day. After leaving my wife some flowers and a card we hit the road at 345am for the long drive out to shady camp and what a drive it was. We hit a foot or so of water over the highway at MT Bundy and then the 30 plus km of rough wet dirt road to get to the ramp. We make it to the ramp at first light then head down to the mouth and out to the coastal creeks that flow off the flood plans getting ...there just before tide change. After some test and adjusting and several trees and snags hooked, we settled in to fine our true love. The ladies were playing hard to get but we did manage to attract a large croc that found our boat irresistible. Can’t really blame them there were three good looking roosters in it. After letting the croc down and saying we were not interested we headed back to try Sampan. We found a spot where the Barra were feeding on what looked like prawn cocktails however regardless of what we through at them they were just not interested. Saying that, the other boat that come with us had managed to attract their own croc admirer. With a broken heart we decided to called it a day. I hope everyone had a great Valentine's Day. #reelingveterans #checkonyourmates #veteranshelpingveterans

05.01.2022 RV is proud to announce that we will be working with SRC again next year. RV early next year will get the staff of SRC for a fish and to help cement the partnership. Let’s hope we get some rain to get the run off going.

04.01.2022 Our new weigh master took a few people down to the perons this week and here is his story. I had the oppotunity as the new weigh master for reeling veterans to take out some veterans and front line personal for a fish to the perons. We had a great day. We bagged out on some big snapper in 20mins. Moved 20 metres and found these great coral trout waiting for us. We had double hookups on same lines and triple hookups most times. #fishing4life #veteranshelpingvetera...ns #checkonmates See more
