20.01.2022 REFLECTING BEAUTY | AUSTRALIAN PRINT SALES From one who lives in the beautiful Australian bush & bushfire risk zone, I'm incredibly thankful that autumn has arrived. The recent rains have greened up our tinder-dry bushland that surrounds us (as my husband well knows after mowing for 4 hours today!)... I'm sure all of us are still grieving for those so catastrophically affected by the recent fires. Did you know that, as well as loss of human life & property, it has been estimated that a BILLION ANIMALS and their habitats have perished over the Australian Summer, and that many species are now at risk of extinction?!!! A billion... My taking one photograph makes no difference to this heartbreaking toll...none... Except to encourage you to look up, look out, be still, listen to nature. 18.01.2022 #newlogofeels My lack of posts on Instagram this last year has not reflected the extent to which I've held on for dear life to the saving grace that my photography brings me... As mentioned previously, I was originally encouraged by some very wise health professionals in a Pain Rehabilitation Unit to "take up" photography editing during a 6 week traumatic hospital admission . ... My love of reflecting the beauty of rural photography therefore developed as a calming response to balancing that chronic nerve pain that impacts my daily life. Looking at beauty through a lens was distraction, it took the focus off myself and directed it on Creation far far greater than I. My original logo of a "dove of hope" came from that. But it's so much more than that. I was privileged beyond measure to grow up on the most beautiful property on the Darling Downs, South East Queensland, Australia; and for my fifty years I developed a greater and greater love for the outdoors, nature, the cycle of life and drought and rain for Australia's backbone - our farmers. When my parents had to sell up last year, our grief meant that I couldn't even look at "my reflections"... let alone share them... Like anything that's good though, anything that brings hope and joy and solace and healing contemplation, I've been hanging on, moving on. Reassessing. Redeveloping. And continuing my own personal expression of worship in my christian faith by continuing to take photos... My website is nearly ready to open, my favourite prints have been chosen for order, my Greeting Card range has been developed, and this all brings me great joy. I have chosen a new logo of Gum Leaves to reflect my new photography direction, and because my favourite images are of my beloved Australian eucalyptus trees, bark and flowers. It's a privilege to REFLECT Australia's BEAUTY for you. I have never been more busy, or more exhausted, than these last twelve months with no time for consecutive days that allow you to breathe out enough to allow a "re-fuel"... and certainly no time to pick up my beloved lens...... This week has seen me take only my second week off (shall I put it in days? - 14 days!) of work/responsibilities, in a year, and I have loved every minute of it. As you probably know by now, all my photos have a personal connection for me, and this is once again Thanes Creek - the creek on the Darling Downs that I grew up on. ... Thanks Creek was actually named after early pioneer pastoralist of the Ellangowan Run, John Thane, who tragically drowned in the nearby Condamine River in 1843.
